Hi All,

I recently took delivery of an HKS Extension kit (dump pipes) from Greenline. Upon inspection I noticed that one of the pipes has a large 4cmx2cm dent in it. I compared it to the other dump pipe which does not have a similar dent but is a slightly different design. I took it to Boostworx in SA where I have booked the car in to get the dumps + new HKS GTSS turbos fitted and asked them if the dent was designed like that. They said no. I wrote to Greenline and provided the following pics but received this response:

"Hi David,

Hope you are well. We have confirmed that the "dents" in the pipe are

normal and part of the design.

Please let us know if you require further information or assistance.

Kind regards,

Jason

Greenline Motorsports"

My question is: Is this dented dump pipe part of the HKS design or has it been damaged in some way?

**EDIT: BETTER IMAGES IN A POST BELOW **

Man looks like they f**ked it by the rough marks around it and uneven finish

Unfortunately it's a crap photo. That's just the actual image not the pipe itself. The pipe itself is smooth and even, it just has a dent in it. I don't have a digital camera so my mate took those images. I might try and get some better images.

I don't know if it helps you, but I found a pic of my HKS dump pipes before I fitted them.

I don't recall having the "dents" that you show, however from memory the pipe wall is bloody thick and I would think unlikely such dents could occur after leaving the HKS factory.

Does it look like the dents would aid access to any of the flange bolts? Just a thought that this may be some modification that has been deliberately specified to help with installation.

On an up side, I wouldn't worry about them as they will have bugger effect on final performance in y opinion. I would recommend that whilst you ceramic coat these along with your front pipes to help keep underbonnet temps down. Even better to do the terb exhaust housings as well if you have them off at the same time.

The dented pipe is the front pipe...it has the dent to clear the inlet pipe of the rear turbo...mine has a crease too, its just a bit neater than yours

Thanks Paul. It seems strange to have such a large dent as it does narrow the pipe considerably on the inside and I would have thought that would have an effect on the efficiency of the design.

I got my ones in from Nengun....They came in a box with manifold and Dump pipe gaskets.

They were branded HKS on them....There were no dints like the one you are showing me on them.

Did you get them in the box from HKS or did they just send them to you like that...in their own box?

And secondly do they have HKS markings on them?

Just curious...HKS Has a good reputation and QC....wonder if they have left one slip.

Please elaborate on these HKS markings you say your dump pipes have as I purchased a new set of HKS Dumps for my GTR years ago and they had no markings on them, and I have never seen any over the years that do.

same, got mine from Nengun around 8 weeks ago

nice and smooth, no dents

those dents dont look "factory" to me..more like damaged from delivery

Something has dropped on it to get that sort of dent.....

Maybe happened in production .

So writeoff........did you get them in a hks box or not?

And did you get all the other goodies illustrated in the photo below?

I have also got a second hand picture of a set off Ebay....no dents.

Well i always use the dent to go by when instaling "genuine" HKS dumps. not a great pick..but mine have a crease..not dint..and its always been there in HKS items.

EDIT. just looked at your latest pics...def. a production job...you can see from my pick the lack of clearance with the "bigger low-mounts. HKS pride themselves on being a bolt-on item, this dent is to achieve that.

do you realise how hard that pipe needs to be hit to dent it like that...bloody hard.

I do think dirt-garage has a point........The dent is meant to clear larger than life snails.

Write-off....if you are unhappy with it...return it or ask them to send you a photo of a few others to confirm some

can look a little more out of shape at that point than others.

The photo I have posted of this kit shows a definite mark at that point...bugger can't zome in.

Try to get a few more better shots for you....

Cheers

Tekin

They didn't come in an HKS box but I received an email before they were sent saying that Greenline repackage everything to avoid theft. The other items all came in a sealed package with HSK labeling.

The photo from ebay does look to have a dent or crease in it but not as pronounced as mine.

Good points raised there Paul. Thanks. Both you and Tekin have reassured me that I don't need to send this pipe back (thus costing me more and delaying me even further). I did send the more recent photos to Greenline and asked them to cc me with HKS's response. The email I received back said that HKS confirmed the pipe was designed like that via phone.

Cool...now you can "educate" Boostworx.

It worries me that they have never done a dump pipe upgrade on a GTR...I'd take it to Tillbrooks mate.

I was at Tillbrooks the other week while a prospective buyer had them check out my other GTR. I spoke with Mark and was impressed with the fact that they had 5 other GTRs in the workshop. The problem is that they are on the other side of town to me (thus a $80 taxi ride back or multiple buses that I haven't learnt yet - with 4 cars I don't catch the buses in Adelaide any more). I have also heard of so many people (1st hand) having bad experiences at Tillbrooks that I'm not inclined to go so far out of my way.

EDIT: 3 cars now. My Bentley was killed in January.

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
    • Damn... Not the feedback I want to hear.
