Hey mates,

I have heard that using the labtop and the special software to program and power fc is much better that using the commander. Is this true?

And what could be the difference?

I really want the best but cant find anybody with the software in my area.. so is the commander enough?

need your help guys

Is it true. Yes.

Differences are threefold.

1. You can see all of the maps in one go & changing between them is easier.

2. You can access more functionality by using the laptop, ie there is stuff you can;t get to using the hand controller.

3. You can do proper data logging using a laptop.

Is the hand controller sufficient to map your ecu. In short, yes.

There are a few differences.

on the software you can run a map trace and do a power run which will highlight exactly where on the map it went too and it can also highlight different colours for knock etc so that way you know exactly where you need to change the values (while it is still highlighted) and it makes tuning much much easier.

You can set values that are not available through the H/C like the VCT and locking the computer...

I have tuned a few power fc's with the hand controller and its hard. you have to run a map trace then do the power run then try and remember what part of the map it went to then you have to go back back then go into the map move to the area's and change the values which can take ages... much more time consuming. after a while you develop easy ways to tune with the hand controller but nothing is better then using the software. When the software was first available to me i did not like it very much but now i have tuned many with the software and will only use the h/c if i have to.

it is chalk and cheese, a pfc tune (complete tune) with pfc software can save you half the total time a basic tune with the hand controller would take.

99.5% of the hand controller tunes i inherit from workshops have holes all the way through them... it is virtually impossible to have holes in a software edited pfc as the whole map is on the screen at each instant.

I find the exact same thing!

Usually a very breif look over the map and you can see where the previous tunner has missed and line it up with the owners drivability complaint!

Something cheap and decent, and is supported by both emanage ultimate and PFC (both have literature to make intergration with fc logit simple) the ultimate has the innovate as a drop down menu in the software so it is auto set.
