nah, you lose abs if you change diff with housing apparently (haven't done it personally). Are you sure you can' just change the centre?

pm - snowman is that his name? has a blue r34 gtr. he swapped out the cetnre for a mech centre.

no you don't! thats only if you rip out the computer!

and i'm about 99.999% sure you can't change the centre!

theres no reason ABS wouldn't work the rear sensors pickup off the half shafts we only want to change the housing

I'll try to get under a mates and measure up to see if there much difference in mounting a whole housing and check half shafts as our shafts may fit need to count splines to confirm?!?!

drive shafts are the rear axles. they may be different in that the half shafts may be a different size/have more less splines so the whole shaft may need to be changed.

Propeller shaft is your tailshaft, if the viscous LSD is able to bolt in but is shorter than the ALSD the tailshaft may need to be swapped.

When I eventually pull my finger out hopefully i can answer some questions!

If anyone is reading this and knows the number of splines on a viscous LSD half shaft please let me know.

Cheers Matt.

Interested to see your results. Hey moanie, have you thought about going for gtr shafts and diff so that the same thing that happened to abo won't happen?

Also, the gtst viscous is pretty gay. the one on the 32 is absolutely cactus and single spins all the time, and we ahven't done that many burnouts on it.

they dont fit. the outer spline is heaps bigger. along with differant mountings and stuff. the standard gtr 2 way is pretty loose to begin with.

I would be real interested to see where this goes, as per my thread a few months ago, I found no cheap solution other than buying a GTR mechanical diff. Even then there may be a few fine details I am blind to. I thought that it was the fault of a hyuadralic solenoid that was causing

the probs, but it would seem that this is a common prob, that not even my friends at a local workshop could put a finger on. Am watching and listening intently.....

Mona, measure your diff from the back to the front - and tell me what points you used as reference - then count the bolts that are used on both the front shaft and the half shafts. I will measure the length of mine and we will have an answer I promise.

  • 2 weeks later...

Okies guys! My hand was forced when my diff cracked sometime tuesday night last week (i swear it cracked on the final turn onto my driveway).. it dumped oil all over the garage floor and boy did it reeekk!! it still reeks! need to go over it with degreaser again.. and again... and probably again! :(

Anyways, had the car towed to my mechanic (ProConcept) and Jeff from SSS Automotive (whom i'd already been speaking to about my diff issue) was nice enough to send someone out to measure up my car while it was there! Such a sweetie!! we found that the stock 33 diff plus drivetrains were what was need to replace the alsd diff. You will also need to get the flanges and blots cause it doesn't fit with the alsd ones. Only issue is with ABS! I was wrong in thinking it would still work. The diff i got did have abs sensors on it, but when it was all hooked up, the light is still on and no abs. Oh wells! I would have thought the computer that controls both would be able to differentiate between the two, but maybe not! My mechanic is still looking into it though!!
