Popped into AutoSalon yesterday to see what was on show this year. The show was definitely down on cars but that could have been expected considering this year's show was 1 month early and was only 2 weeks after the AGP show.

There were some pretty cool expressions of creativity on show but what I did notice was in the influx of Euros and SUVs on show. Also, the new presence of motorbikes made for a new addition. There were some very fine examples of hot bikes on show including a blinged out GSX-R 1000 and a Ducatti 999 which was secks on 2 wheels.

SAU had a lone exhibitor there but I didn't recognise the car but the stand was pretty neat and the car looked nice.

Autosalon managed to get the Alpine Mini out from the US as well as the TRD Circuit Supra. Another nice car on display was the AutoSalon built Drift S15 in a nice mirror finish paint job.

The dyno didn't have much to offer as far as I could tell with the highest power reading being 211awkw from a WRX produced by S21 Performance.

what about the 599rwkw GTS or the 740rwkw supra?

That was around 3 Oclock.

I went down and took heaps of pics i will post them up soon. Going back today

I think he's talking about the GTS holden thingo? There was some 6 litre with a turbo or two pulling around about 600rwkw at about 4ish yesterday

Anyways show was crap!!! not 1 r32 gtr, no gtr 34's , plenty of 33's and only 3 32's. THere was a few older cars that were fair decent, and they had that quad rotor twin turbo bmw, but nothing amazing, and not enough cars! Plenty of hot chicks though. Hottest was on the Polizia ferrari for sure. Not many small venders either, was more last year

just got back. some very nice cars and some not so nice. same with the ladies present.

i do have a question though. is it really cheaper to buy things like audio equipment at autosalon? cos jb-hifi were selling the pioneer deh6850 for $320. the dude said usually they r $430 but i decided not to take the chance he was jacking up the price and giving me a "discount". was i wrong?

anyways here are my pics. as you can probably tell i dont have very steady hands. oh well. someone else is bound to have better pics.

I found the whole thing average at best, prob cause i missed the dyno comp. But also not many cars i liked. I thought the best car was the blown and gassed white M3, simply stunning. IMO best nissan was the blue s14.5 on the motorware stand. RC drift cars were cool too. Also the young gentleman of middle eastern apperance doing a "wogalicious" version of Fergie's ferglicious on the main stage was hilarious, even more so because I think he was serious!

all the big guns and car audio supplier stands should be at semi finals...

heard of a few sick cars that werent finished in time for melb but worth seeing later in the year...

also the car audio distributers seemed to give it a miss due to rediculous costs for doing displays but will still do semi's though

My browser crash after I'd uploaded all the photos and I really CBFed doing it again coz it took so long. This forum needs a bulk upload thingy so we put a whole lot up at the same time.

I didn't see anything make over 211awkw and I was there from 1-5 so I must have missed something. I admittedly was up the back behind the dyno talking to people though.

I had my stand there and saw Paul and Mav down there.

I had a good weekend with my other club.

Was a ghey show though...lucky the after show activites were great.

~760rkwk won the dyno, same Supra as last year. A holden got 695 or something which was ok. And Bennys 180 got a new record with 500 and something. it was like 230kw / ltr.

    • Have you put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on and verified your oil pressure?   Noise being on the block, on exhaust side, how high up the block does it seem to be? It could be the VCT system getting cranky, especially if it's mainly at idle, and when warm, as that'll be your lowest point for oil pressure. Could be showing that oil passages / VCT solenoid are blocking.
    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
