Ok well I'm new here. only had my S2 Stagea for a bit over a week now.

Have noticed the below button and have no idea what it's for (the Jap manual is not really any help :))

If someone could shed some light on this it would be much appreciated.

From memory the "snow" button changes the gearing (eg not using 1st) to reduce power to the wheels and less chance of wheel spin in the slippery conditions

Something like that as far as I know

my 260rs dont have that button!!

Buggar!!! Maybe I should unplug mine then :( I found a plug that fitted & plugged it in, then my 4WD light came on the other day - admittedly my diff hasn't been changed yet nor is my front driveshaft in but it may have something to do with it

This button changes your torque split for the ATTESA AWD system.

It doesn't actually "lock" anything - so its not like a fixed 50:50 split.

As you might know, the AWD system is controlled electronically (the ETS part of ATTESA ETS stands for Electronic Torque Split).

Under normal operation (4wd button OFF), the torque split is about 5% front: 95% rear or something thereabouts.

When traction loss is detected (or anticipated) on any wheel, the AWD system will direct torque away from that wheel.

Or in simple form, it will change the torque split anywhere from 5:95 to 50:50 as you are driving along, as it sees the need, in order to maintain full traction.

The difference with the 4wd button ON, is that instead of defaulting to 5:95 torque split, it will default to 50:50.

However if your front wheels start slipping for whatever reason, it will still transfer more torque towards the rear, therefore it is not strictly locked to 50:50.

I've seen this happen on a dyno - it definitely wasn't 50:50 once the revs started getting about say 2500rpm (with 4wd button ON).

It works on gforce sensors so it wont wait for the wheels to start slipping before it transfers torque to the front or rear or whatever.

It kind of "anticipates" traction loss, and in my experience it works VERY well :D

"apparently" there is some speed related variables thrown in to all of this as well, something about "when traveling over 80km/h the sync button function is overridden..." this may explain some of the action you have seen on the dyno.

I think theres about 12 threads on this so start digging and you will find more!

synchro mode, by increasing the drive force to the front wheels, the synchro mode provides enhanced acceleration from standstill and turning performance on icey roads and in severe conditions.

advice

when the synchro mode function is turned on, the following phenomenon will occur[these are no abnormalities]

.tight cornering effect when driving at slow speed.

.vibration when the engine is turned off with the steering wheel turned completely to the left or right.

off..100%of the drive force will be on the rear wheels when taking off.when the rear wheels are slipping,transfer the drive force to the front wheels.

on..the front and rear wheels will share 50%of the drive force each providing stronger takeoff stability.

    • Yes. It's either "2 wires", or 1 wire, depending on how you look at it. It is the connection that ties the battery -ve to both the chassis and the engine. Every electron that goes in or out of the battery goes through those 2 small spots (on the inner guard and on the engine block). If those are not clean and tight, then shit starts to suffer. Yeah, but measure it again cold in the morning, after it has had hours to rest. You can't usefully test the charge state of a battery immediately after it has been running because the alternator puts a surface charge onto the plates that takes a while to soak in and balance out. It will always read higher, and potentially look properly healthy, when fresh off of charge. But hours later it can look a lot less healthy. It's also worth measuring the battery voltage while cranking, although this can be difficult with a typical DMM because the screem update rate is so slow on most of them. An analogue voltmeter is actually a better tool for that. If the voltage drops too far while cranking, it is a sign of a poor battery. Although I don't think we're necessarily looking for a weak battery here - just wanting to exclude it.

    • Does have series 2 airbag steering wheel and passenger side airbag also.
    • Do I have a series 2 or has someone spent money to have a series 1/1.5 look like a series 2? Everything I have read says the series 2 came out in 1996. I have a car manufactured in December 1995. The exterior, engine and interior are all series 2 other than the dash facia is series 1. Paint code is also kr4 that I believe is only available on a series 2. I have a VX Vehicle History Report and it says Grade: GTS25T TYPE M2 Manufacture date: 1995-12 Make: NISSAN Model: SKYLINE Body: E-ECR33 Grade: GTS25T TYPE M2 Engine: RB25DET Drive: 2WD Transmission: F5
    • I went to Repco to get them to test the battery using their tester (not a volt meter), alternator shows 14.3v when running, and when the car was off after the it was on full load I think it was 12.6v but the guy said it was all good. Terminals are all clean, no corrosion. Though I coulda sworn when I tightened up my alternator belt the car idles a bit higher and the steering wheel shakes a bit until it's warmed up. I wanted to confirm for the earth cable/s, are you referring to the 2 wires that are bolted onto the frame rail under the battery? I might be overthinking this a bit.
