He fixed the reverse and is all good 3 years on....but the 4 gear syncro problem reappeared after close to 2 years had passed....and i do NOT flat shift :)

thinking about another rebuild now....:)

Yeah, I'm getting the impression that 4th synchro is piss-weak in this 'box. Seems to be a common complaint. It's making Me think I should've looked harder at a gearbox conversion, but then I really don't want My car off the road for a month while I sort something out - Life sans-wheels SUCKS !

Yeah, thanks abcent - A mate in the trade is seeing in the morning if he can get a changeover from Japanese Gearbox Wholesalers in Rowville, if not I'll probably flip a coin between 360 and Competition - they both sound pretty good, and charge similar rates, and they're practically a stone's throw from each other !

You got an address to this gearbox changeover business in rowville?

Are they open to the public or only to mechanics

Thanks

NOOO changeover boxes for R33 GTS-T there, and apparently they're not too fond of doing parts - i.e. whole 'box or bust.

Crosses off rb25 gearbox conversion off list.

If they can do a changeover for my rb20 gearbox for cheap i might go ahead with it! ^^,

I've dealt with Stuart (owner) at JGW before, nice guy and he helped me out when dealing with nissan over gearbox issues, but never actually got anything from him so can't comment on what his stuff is like... he seemed to know his stuff, but i think snowy had troubles with his gearbox there...

Well, the bad news is in . . . . .

Nissan have superseded the parts I need (or something), the upshot being that I'd need to buy complete cluster sub-assemblies, which would put the total rebuild bill over $4000.

I shit You not.

P.s. Competition Gearboxes have been great, & both they & 360 Gearboxes can still do a bearings & Synchros rebuild at SURPRISINGLY good prices. I'd suggest anyone with 4th gear selection problems think about a preventative rebuild.

Justjap advertises rb25 boxes for $3200 so i assume you could get them even cheaper shopping around direct from Nissan.

Just in the process of cleaning-up the 2nd hand 'box, to install this week/end.

H-Pattern the sits below the gearstick . . . . who wants to do a big one inside the cabin - Ferrari Style? ! !

Busted Selector Fork (Notice the worn-smooth bit, where it's jumped-up onto the selsctor Ring when it jammed):

It's even got the rib broken-out:

Hmmmm, What's missing here:

1st/2nd Fork on the left - notice how it's NOT BROKEN ! !

More Brokenness:

I keep on finding bits & Chunks of Aluminium throughout the 'box, not cool. Apparently that's ok though, coz the gear teeth are so hard it just squashes 'em and spits 'em out into the oil ! (hence the T-1000 oil)

WOO HOOOO ! ! ! !

I Went with a cheap 2nd Hand gearbox, which is in, and it feels FINE ! :) Fingers crossed !

Looks like I've got an R33 GTR gearset, and a GTS-T casing + output shaft + spares galore for sale. Make Me an offer !
