So here I was eagerly awaiting my brand new PC which I have order from a very reputable place in Sydney (I won't name the company on the forum until I've heard back from them, and exactly what they are going to do about this situation).

Sure enough three boxes came today.

Box number 1) Ah that would be my shiny new 22" LCD wide screen monitor.... nice.

Box number 2) Well that's my 5.1 surround speakers, very nice.... can't wait to set you up!

Box number 3) Ah yes, the piece de resistance! Here it is! Yes....... Oh shit.... the front fascia just f**king fell off.... Hmmmm, maybe it wasn't attached properly.... nope that's not the case, all the 6 clips that hold it on are broken. Great.

Ohhhh and that's not all, what do I find down the back right next to my brand new $700 video card? Why is that a big f**king ding? Yes it is! I'm sure I didn't order that....

So at about this time I'm thinking: f**king courier company threw my computer around, so I checked the box: Its fine, no damage anywhere, not least where the ding would match up. Its perfect. Then I go looking for all the broken clips that should be floating around from the front fascia....

Ahhhh, not in the computer tower.... that's odd, maybe in the plastic..... nope not in the plastic... In the box perhaps? Nope.... So where does this lead me to logically?

Either a) The courier company found my box, unpacked it. Pulled the front off, broke off all the clips, put them in the bin, hit the side of the case with a hammer then packaged it all back up, taped it up and sent it on to me.

or option b) The company who built my computer either used a f**ked case or much worse, installed all my components then dropped it.

I've attached some photo's for your viewing pleasure!

That really sucks, the case looks like someone got a pole and just kept hitting it.

I would agree with what Kralster, always more safe to build your own pc, and its fun... kinda.

You said a $700 graphics card im gonna take a stab at a 8800gtx? which would be amazingly good price.

That is definitely a load of crap if they expect you not to complain about that though, there is no way the courier could have done so much damage on the case without damaging the box.

Good luck and hope you get that beast fixed.

looks as though they have dropped it when assembling it, and they decided to send it anyway so that when you ring up and complain they can just tell you that it's the couriers fault. But thats gonna backfire big time seeing as though the box is in perfect condition. And you have photo's.

Hey guys, I've talked to the guys and they are taking it back and given me a new case and testing all the components etc, they didn't say it was their fault, but they didn't blame the courier either.

The thing is, I would say it was the courier's fault except for the fact that:

1) The box wasn't damaged, and

2) I couldn't find the broken clips anywhere, and there should have been like 10 of them (6 but they break into two pieces)

Anyway, its all being looked after, no cost to me, I'm just annoyed cause its like another 7 days without my computer (due to the fact that its a 4 day weekend this weekend!)

As for building it myself, well it wasn't a prebuilt system, I picked all the parts myself but the cost of shipping all the individual boxes was actually going to cost more than if I got them to assemble all the parts and just send the tower box.

The graphics card is actually a pre overclocked 8800gts 640mb, it was actually more like 620 or so.

I wanted to get something which was direct x 10 compat.

I was close =[

My mate had bought the 8800gtx for about $990 around a month or two ago, maybe a little longer actually... hmm

In any case his graphics card cant even play counter-strike and needs to run on direct x8. Many games that are 2d he cannot play either, either it crashes or colors go crazy. Sad to see so much of his money goto waste and a copy of vista wasn't even around yet =[

In any case Supreme Commander worked fine with it, and hopefully yours will run exceptionally well to.

Hope your new case doesn't have come with anymore imperfections =]

Yeah well, last I heard the 8800gts and 8800gtx were still running beta drivers so hopefully when the drivers get released properly there won't be any issues.

Normally I wouldn't buy a video card that is the first of its kind (first direct x 10 card) and wait for them to iron out any kinks, but atomic and a few other mag's gave the cards good reviews so I was willing to give it a go.

In any case I won't know until the computer gets back next week now!

EDIT: Gonna reword this in case mods don't like what i said =]

You know Vista is like the new age of internet security/police. Meaning they have really gone to an extent to stamp out illegal software, including cracked games. I hear mounting is also useless now. I'm not sure if this has been discussed on the forums somewhere but yeah... i know i wont be upgrading to Vista for a long time =S

It will be like using Telstra to buy a song for 99cents.

Haha i hear that man, seriously though i hear it every ... day, every minute. I have a good view of the one next door to me when it starts barking and doesn't shutup. Cant wait till i upgrade my CRT so it can fall out my window.

whats the specs on your new pc n how much if you dont mind ??? 'cos im thinking of updating my pc (throwing it at my next door neighbours dogs head)

Intel 2 Core Duo E6600 2.4GHZ 1066FSB

GIGABYTE S775, GA-965P-DS3P V3.3

4GB Corsair Ram: DDR2 PC-6400

Gainwind Pre OC 640mb DDR3 8800GTS PCI-E

2x 250G SATA2 Seagate Barracuda's 3G/s 16mb 7200.10 (I was going to Raid with a 10,000 WD for the system files, but meh)

720Watt power supply

2x Asus DVD-Burner's

An Asus silent knight for the CPU (because I will be overclocking)

A few case fans, a coolermaster case and a leadtek DVB-T and capture card

Oh and a 22" Widescreen Chimei monitor, 5ms, and a creative 5.1 surround speaker system

I've already got my own copy of vista through work, office etc, and i've already got a keyboard and mouse and UPS

Grand total of what I bought came to about $3,200 or 3,400 from memory.

*UPDATE*

Well I've got my computer back from them, it got sent back by courier, and I got it back on Friday.

I took it out of the box:

1st thing: Case is missing two screws on the side of the case, so the panel just falls off. Great.

So I plug it all in, boot it up. It turns on fine, the little windows vista trial thing is installed. I go to move the mouse: Fatal exception error in blah blah blah XXXOOO computer will now shut down. Great.

Turn it back on, computer powers up for about 5 seconds then turns itself off. Sits for about 6 seconds, then boots back up for about 5 seconds then dies again. It keeps going through this loop indefinitely until you turn it off at the back. Motherf**kers.

I open the case and have a look around, I notice that two of the case fans haven't been plugged in..... Great. I plug them in, everything else looks fine.

I try turning it back on, powers up....... then off...... then up...... then off.

Anyone have any idea what would cause this? I'll contacting them tomorrow. I am not happy. No siree bob.

there should be a battery on the motherboard pop that out ( with power off ofcourse ) then let the pc sit like that for about 15mins pop the battery back in then reboot....give that ago i hope it helps. If not my next suggestion will be pick up the pc do a massive run up to the shop then Throw the F#@ker rite through window with a little note "stay tuned for part 2" then follow up with the monitor with a not attached " stick it up your ass " the end......oh yeah dont forget to go back and ask for your money back politley.

Hey, I tried what you said and the computer booted up and ran for about 5 minutes, then it crashed with a windows stop screen. Now its gone back to how it was before where it keeps turning on and off repeatedly. ARGH!!!

    • don't know anyone in this thread, but i just found it, read the entire thing in a few hours, realized greg is still posting progress, and just have to say, this is awesome. it looks awesome. 100% right about the Uras kit making it a pain to get on hoists...have the same kit on my 34 and it takes six 2x4s and race ramps to do it without taking parts off. this reminds me exactly of this thread. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-projects-and-project-cars/r63-amg-the-unicorn-of-my-destruction/110824/page8/
    • The only way to make that better is to weld on some bozozoku tips up past window height and roll with the cool kids.
    • I'd want an even MORE side on view. More or less you want to make sure the outlet is actually square with the outermost part of the bumper. Or you end up getting soot all over your bumper from your hektik exhaust. In any case, it looks pretty close. I think the way to fix this is probably more of an overhaul at an exhaust specialty shop if you want tips that are rounded off or sit nicely with the bumper but have proper clearance and don't move - Probably more of a redesign than a quick fix. I've pencilled in my own exhaust with its own various problems, pinholes, PITA fitment, and other issues and can see myself going to a shop and saying "JUST DO THIS BUT BETTER?"  Which is gonna work better than any more small fixes. I'm gonna chime in here officially with "from an outsider perspective this exhaust looks fine so this is self OCD probably" (which I also suffer from)
    • Reminds me I really need to install that HKS oil cooler I bought years ago.
    • It be 40°C outside lately. 10W60 is a good idea here. Well, certainly 10W50.
