ADVICE NEEDED FOR HIGHFLOW TURBO

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hey guys,i have had my rb25 highflow turbo from aaron at sliding performance in sydney on my car for about one week, its quite laggy at the moment but that is normal for a highflow, boost kicks in at about 4000rpm,but when it kicks in it hammers.just want people to advice what mod i should get next for the turbo.my car is a r33 gtst, current mods are, hybrid front mount intercooler, pod filter,cat-back exhaust, dump pipe, highflow cat and boost tee,at the moment running about 14psi.the highflow is rated at 260kw at the wheels, which is about 350hp at the wheels, the turbo can run 19psi.i have stock injectors, fuel pump, ecu, air flow meter and bear in mind the car is auto.i have about 195kw at the wheels at the moment,so i have 65kw at the wheels to go with the highflow.should a get a apexi SAFC,injectors, fuel pump or a aftermarket ecu,i have thought of getting a "lumpy" rom,i dont know if he can do it for a auto,or get a biki rom from speedweeks.my goal is to get 340hp at the wheels and to run a 12 second quarter ;)

From my understanding you cant get a power fc for autos... or have I been going around my mods all the wrong way? :P

The power fc will work in an auto r33. But the stock ecu controls the auto gearbox (the changers etc) and the pfc doesnt have a function to do this so it has been reported that it increases the wear on the gearbox due to harsh gear changes etc...

Some-people say it works fine other people say they had problems, its a bit of a hit and miss subject if you ask me. Personal i would go for the greddy E-manage ultimate, it does everything the pfc does plus more  and because you are still using the stock ecu and because the greddy has an inbuild auto function it works very well with an auto gearbox.

If you interested in finding out more maybe give ken @ hyperdrive a call or sean @ allstar. Sean can tune both the emanage blue and ultimate and i believed ken is getting in on the act too

hope that helps

ohh and your issue with the lag i put down to 2 things. stock ecu and crappy boost controller. Get yourself a good EBC and you will notice a huge different i was able to drop my lag by a few 100rpm going from HKS actuator only then to hks actuator + SBC ID3 (full boost went from 3500 to 3200/3300). My turbo is rated higher than urs, so you should be able to get ur boost down to atlest 3500 once u do all the supporting mods

cheers michael :D

cheers for the advice guys :P all those options are good  i know people are going to say its auto  but unfortunately i can not drive a manual because i have a muscle problem in my legs,so i cant get enough power to push in the clutch, but if you see me in person you would not even know i had a problem,i just have to live with it,other people have worse problems than me,but i have no problem driving a auto.anyway,i will diffnately look into all those options, the lag is not a problem for now,but taking down the quarter is at the moment until i sort out the other issues, but i should run a 12 sec pass when i sort these issues out :PBJ:

you will be fine with the pfc in the auto . the pfc does not retard ingition timing during changes like the stock ecu but you are strengthening the gb anyway so that wont be a big issue . in the end any full ecu like the pfc will be better than the emanage which is a piggy back interceptor but emanage will still be usefull if you choose it

cant realy comment on the hks but im not into the idea of a 1 workshop only that can tune , i was told your even locked out of seeing you tune on them . not good.

see i think everyone is mislead by the fact the greddy is a piggy-back. Seeing as the Greddy/Re Rx7 is running stock ecu + ultimate , and has been in the d1 gp for along time without a problem... along with it being the Touge battle Champion in Hot Version (beating a GTR) i dont see it as being limited... its seems to have a few extra function that the pfc doesnt have.

I personal think as tuner have more tuning time with the ecu they will be able to better use its function and take full advantage of its power. I think its pretty much the same go with the HKS ecu, HKS offer alot of ecu (from the fcon to piggy style just like the greddy) which also have alot of function, but untill a tuner becomes familiar with the ecu they wont be able to take full advantage of it... well thats my 2cents

(warning this is just my personal opinion)

do you mean its misleading that it is a piggyback or that its less powerfull because its a piggyback ?

cause its definetly a piggyback , but yes its a very very powerfull one

i still personally think for the money you cant go past the pfc but thats just my 2c also . if there was absolutly no way to get a pfc at all even 2nd hand id go the ultimate

Although i do agree about just getting a pfc, i have one they are great ecu, everyone in perth knows how to tune them and been tuning them for abit now so you can get the best results. it seems to be the top ecu for Nissan imports

nothing wrong with an auto (even tho i drive a man now) just go down to the plex and all the big boys doing some serious time will have a tricked out auto.

a few cars back i had a tricked out trimatic, with stall converter, shift kit etc- WAS NUTZ, and a few cars before that i hadda 2 spd power glide HAHA

so ye auto all good and best in straight line application, and people who think otherwise dont know jack!

ok i am comfortably running 340 rwhp for the past 2+ years on standard injectors no fuel regulator just the aftermarket bosch 910 ( i think it is) fuel pump

Wolf ecu or power FC will also bring that lag down quite a bit. Pretty much the info that people have given here seems quite correct however keep an eye on the injectors around the power mark, if you can see yourself going up quite a lot more then yeah go the injectors but if your happy like me (spending about 13k on the engine, used as pretty much the guinea pig motor of all original skyline owners in WA but using a highflo to have a nice reliable daily driver that still serves it when it wants) then stay around the 340 rwhp save the $$$$ and spend it on the ecu, electronic boost controller and a nice set of poncams.

Using the power fc jetro or wolf enables you to not need an Air flow meter at all, go for one of them as that way you wont have to upgrade the AFM coz you wont need one at all :-)

thanks, will probably go for a SAFC or a good ecu, thinking the greedy or power fc,also looking at getting a oil catch can with some good quality speedflow fittings so i can get rid of those oil vapors that are a common problems for RBs when getting more power.
