Hey all.

Just a quick run down. I have an r32 GTR when I originally got it it was a bit of a slug so I took it to a certain workshop best not to mention. to see if they could tell me what was wrong with it........ well, a set of turbo's (which they told me were 420h when infact were 320), power fc (with an incompatable hand controller) a tune (that made 192kw at all 4 on 18psi) and a 6k bill at the end of it. the engine started knocking 2 days later, but that is another story.

So i ended buying another rb26 (5k) , engine seems tidy supposable about 60'000k's since a rebuild. I swapped all parts over and is in the car now did compression test I cannot remember exactly what it got but it was fine. but now after another mechanic has tuned it it is only getting 220kw at rw with the following mods at 14psi.

- pods

- cam gears

- garret 2860r (small ones)

- split dump's and full 3" exhaust

- Power FC

- apexi AVC-R

Thats all i can think of at the moment. That is not normal is it? just after some opinions and maybe some suggestions.

The engine wasnt leaning out just wouldent go any harder. Even the mechanic said he was expecting alot more from it.

cheers guys

Dynos are for tuning tools mainly, figures can vary alot aswell, plus have you got a dyno graph preferably with afr curve on it this could be a problem not smooth? what are the cam gears set at? did he change anything? so many questions so thats a start

He has a GTR, it already has a decent FMIC.

14psi 220rwkw = shit... thats if the dyno is on the ball.

It should really be up around 250-260rwkw or there abouts

The turbos you have, with around 20-22psi should see you around 330rwkw.

Its time to find another tuner.

Cheers.

dyno plot please

we need to see power and AFR

also what about fuel pressure

and boost pressure

they would help

Agree with everyone else here - I have an R32 GTR with similar mods seeing 280awkw @ 18psi

have not seen any mention of mods to fuel - fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator ?

what's a std pump and fuel mixture going to deliver ?

Firstly thanks heaps for the reply's I am not as honed into the tuning side of cars as I would like to be, but I will tell you as much as I can.

- The tune was done about 1 month ago and they tuner's printer was stuffed something along those lines, I couldent get a print out. He showed me the results on screen. They were sharp curves and smooth all the way to 220kw then it was like they hit a wall. He said he coudlent sus it out, I am not sure if that is any kind of indication at all.

- Its only got a stock fuel pump but wasnt showing any signs of leaning out at all, he he stuck a gauge on to check the pressure and said there was heaps.

- He did advance the exhaust cam a little I am not sure exactly how much but he said it made a bit of a difference.

- It has got a factory frount mount but I assumed that would be ok for a bit more power than this, but I am far from an expert.

The car is in a few pieces at the moment with me trying to clean everything up and looking for any leaks or anything a bit dodgy. It should be all back together by then end of the weekend so I will try and get the dyno print out if he has it, otherwise I'll get another dyno.

Also whilst this has all been going on I moved to darwin right after the engine was put in. (truck drivers stole my audiobahn amp, and my tyres bald as bald when the car got here, again another story) so air temp is like 32 deg all day, and there is a vast lack of tuners and dyno's around!

    • Welcome!  We're not all grumpy.
    • Welcome. We're all grumpy old men (and a few grumpy old women) who are slowly coming to hate these cars. Any of the newer owners who have joined in the last few years are rapidly catching up with us as they realise they have bought a basket case and that parts are getting difficult to find. Just be realistic about your goals. You'll need a fat stack of cash to buy an R34 GTR, and you'd be far better off using that to buy absolutely anything else (ie, shares, a house, scratchy tickets) unless that fat stack of cash is only ~10% of the actual fat stack of cash that you have. You'll never want to drive an R34 GTR on the street if you have fear of it getting destroyed. That's more or less true of the 33s and 32s also. Most of the RWD cars have been drifted backwards into power poles. No-one knows what they are worth these days because they are not changing hands. My car has notionally been down to <$10k value at some point and was probably sellable for $40-$50k in the height of COVID stupidity, but I have no idea what it's really worth now. It's irreplaceable anyway, because... where would I find one to replace it? Being realistic means either paying a lot of cash for a really really clean example that you will only drive on sunny Sundays, or buying one to daily that you will not want to be really really clean, for the same fears of destruction that applies to the GTR. I daily mine and some people think I'm crazy. But....to me it's just a car that I bought last century with the express purpose of driving it as my daily. The silliness that has happened since doesn't affect my original purpose. I have well and truly amortised the initial purchase cost and most (probably all) of the subsequent modification costs. But I don't think I could go out and buy one now to daily.

    • Hey everyone! I'm quite young and I don't have enough to get a car right now but I love Nissan Skylines (Specifically the r34 GT-R. I'm so original I know.) and I would love to buy one in the future. I have no background knowledge, only an interest in cars, but I'd love to learn how they work so I can mod in the future. I've done some basic research on what model of Skyline I would start with and what mods to get started with are but nothing else. I'm here to learn! Hope you all have a great day
