just a question would you let a 21 yo own and drive a GTR. the reason for my asking is one of the guys from r31skylineclub is planing on doing so. personaly i think i would wait untill at least 24. do a few more track days and driver traning courses.

plus he also told me he wont be doing any driver course in it as he feels he should be fine  .

A GTR can be driven responsibly, it's all in the attitude of the driver. Just because it's a GTR, doesn't make it the meanest weapon of a car on the road. Stock or modified, so long as he's off his P's, good luck to him and hope he enjoys and respects it.

On a side note, I'm loving this weather!! perfect for going for a cruise

Probbaly not the smartest idea, personaly I think you need something that you gain over time to drive a Hi-Po car, respect for them. I think regardless of how mature you are it takes time to gain respect for the road and fast cars - usually a close call/accident and a GTR makes it that much worse

You can NEVER have too much driver education. That's the problem these days - everyone reckons they are the Michael Schumaker of the roads.

And if he's still on his Ps, I don't want to see a post complaining about getting "harrassed" by police.

And I don't accept the "you can be as big a dick in a Gemini" argument. It all happens so much faster in a hi-powered, hi-performance car.

I'd prefer an experienced driver regardless of age to drive any car around.

Just because he/she is at least 24 doesn't mean he/she knows how to drive safely.

Then again, if he/she has not driven through different situations he/she won't get the exprience....

Aaahhh, actually I have a reservation, and it's about ALL GTR's on the (public) road:

They're RWD, until there's slip, and then power starts feeding to the front, right?

So inexperienced driver-boy punches it hard out of a corner, maybe it's turning left at a biggish intersection with the run of the lights, whatever.. . . The rear starts stepping-out when the Turbos spin-up, (it's wet, perhaps?) - so a lil' oppy lock gets fed in, just as the torque starts arriving at the front wheels, loading the the steering with some torque-steer, and BAM ! GTR spears in opposite direction & meets outside of corner/median strip etc.. . . .

Call bulls!t if U want, but I know of someone who's done it - and they didn't really know what was happening at the time, 'coz it was all so quick.

That's just an example, but variable AWD big grip + turbo power opens up a whole world of sh!t if things get just a lil' outta control. Add to that a certain . . . . lack of imagination, when "having a rip" at that age, and for sure, it's dodgey.

Food for thought, but if I'd had the means to get a GTR at 21, no amount of advice or nay-saying could've stopped Me, so kinda makes all this irrelevant eh? :stupid:

so whats the problem here? lol

if he's got the money to buy and maintain a gtr then go for it!! you only live once. if he decides to drive it like a dick then that's his problem

fark if i was a rich kid i'd be driving a ferrari with p-plates you think i'd give a shit about what might happen? :stupid:

I have some first hand experience in this space because I have a R33 GTR and a R33 GTS-T Series II - I also have a 22 year old son.

I do not have a problem with him driving the GTS-T but I only let him drive the GTR when I am in the car with him.

It is not about the difference in performance in the two cars as the GTR is safer to drive than the GTS-T because it simply does everything better. Any turbo Skyline will bite you if you do the wrong thing.

The real issue is what the GTR creates in other drivers. Someone wants to race you at every set of lights that you pull up at, everyone seems to have to prove that what ever it is that they drive is as good as the GTR from any of the Japanese brands to the V8 Holdens and V8 Fords. The other issue is the attention that the car generates with the cops, it is normal to see a cop and for them to do a U turn and either follow you or pull you over for a chat.

The question is whether the person has the maturity to handle this extra attention and pressure that driving a GTR creates – if they can then go for it.

    • Update time!  The JZX110 had some maintenance needing to be done, so a lot of the seals with replaced to fix some oil leaks. Also used this opportunity to whack on a front mount that I'd bought some time ago.  I also finally got the rear lip painted and fitted.  I then got the exhaust done. It's just a catback for now. Custom made 3" stainless with a turn down. I could have a tip coming out, but it will require cutting the rear lip and possibly the bumper itself. So far I do like and it's made the car a little more zippy.  Close out with some nice pictures of the cars and a sneak peek of what's next.

    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!) Cockpit Tatebayashi Tokyo Auto Salon booth demo cars. It appears that Emotion R closed down in 2008 and was declared bankrupt in 2010: http://bank-db.com/hasan/208365.
