Before you buy your BIG turbo have a read of this: Programable ECU Vs Factory ECU

This is very important and can save your engine, but the choice is yours. A programmable ecu also extracts a lot more potential from your stock turbo and the bigger turbo.

Do you already have; the fuel pump, rising fuel regulator, injectors, min. 3" exhaust from turbo back with hi-flow cat. and muffler, H/D clutch, etc? If your are missing any of the previous get these first as your 4K will not get you far without them.

With 300rwkw you will also require forged pistons, conrods, etc., if you want a reliable engine.:uh-huh:

I think $4k won't be enuff to get you to 300rwkw. Do you also have $4k for the suspension/handling setup because you will need it in order to put that 300rwkw to the ground.

You gotta be thinking 50% power and 50% how the heck am i gonna use that power not just boost boost booooost.

Suspension - $1500

PowerFC - $1800

Tyres - $1200

= $4500

and you would be doing well to get 200-210rwkw from that. Your going to need atleast a $7-8k budget i think.

300rwkw for 4K, I wish life was so kind.

You have cooler and exhaust, you will need:

Clutch (twin plate) $1200 plus fitting

Injectors $1k

Fuel pump $300 plus fit

ECU fitted and tuned $1.5k plus

EBC $500

Turbo $2k

fit turbo(new lines) $500

New manifold $1200+

Dump pipe $350

Wastegate (perhaps depends on turbo) $5-700

Pipe from pod to turbo $150

Fuel pressure reg $150

Now you have a problem with either:

Rebuild bottom end inlcuding remove and replace engine: $7k+

or

Head gasket to decompress engine $600+

Fit head gasket $300.

It would also be nice to do the cams and cam gear, add $1.5k

This is without upgrading any suspension or wheels which you will definately need to do. You could probably get away without major brake upgrades, but expect to need some decent pads and upgrade your brake fluid to dot 5.1

Add another $1.5k plus.

If you want to maximise your $4k -

get some decent coilovers, and swaybars. Any power you make can be optimised by getting it to the ground well, without decent suspension you will find with 300rwkw, that cars with much lower power will hand you your arse.

Get a decent ECU - power fc, or if you want cheaper, the e-manage is cheap enough that you can get it fitted and tuned for about 1.5k. Add an EBC and you will have a different car. You would probably at this stage be wise to do your clutch, IF it is still holding, it wont for long. A button clutch should do the trick, or an upgraded organic - hopefully, if you shop around, your funds might just cover this much.

300kw what is that in hp.

If i was 1st i would get the block pro tune so u can crank some killa hp and the car can handle it.

Also u better upgrand brakes and all that shit first no point having a fast car if you can only turn a coner at 20km and takes 100m to stop the car when u r going 100km.

By the way does you car have a saftycutout best get that removed before u add hp

I'd lower your expectation and go for 250rwkw to start with.. if you get that, then you can start budgeting for 300rwkw+ later on. The reason i say that is that 250 it seems a lot more achieveable is that a lot more people reach that goal without touching the internals (if you're fairly lucky), and without running massive boost.

If you get (or at least quite close to it) 250rwkw, you might be able to get by with your standard injectors (save $600-$800), a cheaper clutch, cheaper turbo (highflow, or GT30) , and lots of things.

There seems to be a lot of disagreement that u can in fact do it... But i am sure $4k budget is achievable.. for at least 250rwkw anyway.

250rwkw will be a bitch if u floor it off the line I'd say, but you will notice that extra power without having to too nuts on full aftermarket suspension and things.. some pineapples and at least some good rubber for your rears (why go four 4 expensive tyres where its a RWD afterall) is a start. That should get you into the 12s bracket if 1/4 mile is your thing - as long as you can drive well.

If you get the power then find you hate how its delivered then I guess you consider the other bits - don't go too nuts all at once.

Good advice, could you imagine jumping from ~180rwkw to ~250rwkw hell i'd wanna have 4 pairs of undies let alone going ~180rwkw to ~300rwkw.

Im stayping put at 203rwkw for a little while. Starting to work on actually putting that to the ground and also stopping.

Pickup my new DBA Club Spec Rotors today (dremen take note) and also next on my list is a set of FM901's in another month or so (hopefully before rego).

Have you driven a 250rwkw skyline with sock suspesion and wheels? Dude, even with 200rwkw and a decent power band, you will have dramas with stock wheels and suspension. 250rwkw would be an absolute danger to yourself and everyone else on the road.

IMO, this is one way you end up with lethal cars on the road, building an engine, but not taking care of the rest - very, very dangerous. Beside that, what would be the point in having a car that if you try and drive it at any more than old mole pace, you just go around in circles. I have seen this done with a old ford 351 GT. The novelty runs out pretty quickly when your car cant safely be taken out of the street and into traffic. Have you ever tried to corner a car (from a stand still) that has no traction?

But please Predator, I would be really interested in hearing how you could achieve what you are suggesting.

I am upgrading to about 250-270rwkw at the moment and i have budgeted around 5.5k (which included selling of my old parts), outright its costing me around 7.5k for the initial outlay and thats without forget psiton, short penned rods, portedhead, new cams or any other engine work.

    • @soviet_merlin Thanks mate!  Nothing too major but will hold me up for a while. I've got lymphomas to get taken off the back of my neck and the middle of my spine which always conjures scary thoughts!  It sounds worse than it is. Yeah great, conjuring more rabbit hole deepening , just what I need! 🤣  
    • I'd argue the F50 kit I got is very good value. For ~2k I got the calipers (refurbed condition), adapters, pads, brake lines, rotors, and top hats. I think you'd be pretty hard to get Evo/GTR/350z brembos + the additional hardware for similar money. Used market for a pair of front calipers alone I've seen tend to run anywhere from $1500-2000 depending on condition.    That said, something like a GTR or 350z brembo is a lot easier to adapt to the Silvia. 
    • Is there a significant price difference between the Evo/gtr/350z brembos vs the F50? Looks amazing.
    • I was actually being a tightarse at the time LOL... My OCD is tickling me into running a 2nd 8AN Teflon hose all the way down and removing the 2x OEM hardlines. My other side of my brain is telling me to run 2x hardlines front to back (also acts as a fuel cooler, so win win).
    • As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had some trouble with the Silvia's brakes dragging back in 2023. I managed to sort it out then, but the same problem came back to bite me late last year. Just take a look at the picture – I had a feeling the handbrake was acting up again, and I was right. Anyway, I'd been wanting to upgrade to bigger brakes for a while. Not that the Silvia's brakes were bad, but it was more of a "want" than a "need", you know? It was funny, though – at the time, I couldn't find any Evo Brembos, 350Z Brembos, or GTR Brembos for a decent price (of course, tons of them popped up online after I already bought my kit!). I ended up going with an F50 Brembo kit, which came with adapters, brake lines, 330mm rotors, and top hats. The F50 Brembo caliper was used in a few other cars too, like the FPV. I also decided this was the perfect opportunity to ditch the Silvia's ridiculous rear brakes and that awful handbrake (some of you were definitely right about that!). I picked up some R33 calipers and all the necessary bits – rear drums, backing plates, and new hardware to refurbish the calipers. Of course, it wouldn't be a project without a few hiccups. Turns out the brake master cylinder was playing up and basically (to put it simply) keeping the brakes engaged. I had it overhauled, and after some adjustments, everything was working again. The whole process took a while, as you can imagine. To top it off, the front right wheel bearings were shot and needed replacing too. This is a rare occasion where I'm posting an update while it's all still fresh! These pictures were taken just this afternoon.
