well I know for a fact that leewahs cars is driven quite a bit.

also my friends r33 with well over 350rwkw (rb26 with 2510's is an genuine daily driver he drives the thing in to towm to go to work. he might only be running .5 bar boost and havew the silencer in but it still doesnt get beaten in a traffic light gp. it is a very sweet and driveable car but guess what no rb 25/30 or big laggy turbo. this car did make 396 rwkw at a show last week end he is drivng it to heathcote today to try an improve his times. from a 12.4 at 125mph then on monday morning he will take it to work. also on a circut with equivelent drivers your r32 would have trouble keeping up and possibly beating it. as the car was built as a track car not a drag car.

btw I also believe ben and nigel drive there cars all the time

Hi Meg, We have had GTR's with 2530's and what you say is right, very nice, everyday drivers, I imagine 2510's would be the same. But the "your friend" example proves what I said. I'll bet with the "silencer in" and the boost at "0.5 bar" it isn't making much more than 300 rwkw.

And it has $40K worth of mods, on top of what, $25K for a good R33 GTST? That's more than we spent on the R32 GTST and the R32 GTR added together. If someone did that and then sold it 2 years later they would get, what $20K? That's almost $25K per year in depreciation, shoot I could own a GT2 for that.

On a dry circuit, over 15 laps, I'll put my money on a 300 rwkw R32 GTST at 1,100 kgs to beat a 396 rwkw 1,400 kg R33 GTST everytime. I should add the R32 GTST averages 260 rwkw from 4,500 rpm to 7,500 rpm. Work out the averages on your friend's R33, it may make an interesting comparison. If it doesn't have a close ratio gearset to overcome any average power deficiency he's screwed, big time.

The R34 GTT with 260 rwkw did a 12.4 for 1/4 last time out, so maybe we should have a drag challenge as well. I reckon the R32 with 22% less weight and 15% more max power (25% higher average) would easy do a high to mid 11.

Sorry we got off the topic, whenever I talk to guys (honestly, with no BS) with more than 300 rwkw Skylines, they always do stuff like drop the boost, loose the race fuel, change the maps, the tyres, the exhaust etc. They never seem to drive it every day (including in the rain) with much more than 300 rwkw. Maybe there are, and I just haven't met up with them.

One last thing, the topic of this thread is "Budget $4k, Goal 300kw" it's hardly fair when we start using mods that cost 10 times as much to prove our case.

I agree to diagree but any way that r33 is for sale @ 30 k the owner bought it built from japan so he didn't sell his right testsicle for the mods and it does have an osgiken gear set as well who would be silly enough to drive with the car making 300 rwkw plus in traffic etc thats why we have boost controllers btw Ihave driven a car with well over 350 rwkw (twin 2835's on a gtst) in traffic its very doable even wiht the triple plate. as long as you dont hit boost :P

as I said the 12.4 was with a 60' time of 2.4 he is at the drags today I'll let you know if he cracks the 11's which he should.

300rwkw for 4k I seriously doubt but I'll leave that to others. I have been looking at options and though I was once a fan of the rb25/30 set up I am now convinced about the rb 26 option. but thats just me.

I was thinking of going silly and going over 300rwkw but it would piss me off more than give me enjoyment coz going to and from work i hardly hit boost with my current setup coz of the peak hour traffic!

I am aiming for around 260-270rwkw so i can race gordo and wip his butt like i did last time:D

Oh and for the topic, $4000 and 300rwkw nope, try $10,000 for reliable 300rwkw

Hi Meg, "As long as you don't hit boost" is another reason for not going too far, but it is good for the soul to agree to dissagree. Check the cost on the RB26 vs RB30/25, especially if the RB26 needs a rebuild. And make sure you get all the necessary bits with the RB26, anything needed and missing costs an arm and a leg.

Why is the guy selling the R33? It sounds like a very well modded car with big bucks spent on it. He won't find another for that sort of money.

why is he selling well he has a very hard core r32 with twin 2835's hks dog box etc that he wants to refine and has another car as a run round I think he is nuts selling but thats me I'f I had the cash around I would buy it but I dont and really I dont desire 300 rwkw 200-220 should do me fine I'm to old for hard core racing any more been there done that

Hi MEg, 220 rwkw out of an RB26DETT is a real doddle, turbo's back exhaust and remove the boost restrictor. I'd stick some steel wheels in the standard turbos and then it'll last forever.

Occasionally I think I'm too old for racing, then I get in the car and do few laps and I'm hooked again. Had a blast last weekend for 8 laps till the clutch fork broke.

for 4 k i reckon i could get 250 rwkw easy..... not sure about 300

going back abit and off topic (in regards to sydney kids and meggala's discussion) my car makes 360rwhp atm and i drive it everyday with out any hassles and brings back 300km to the tank. costed me $80 in fuel to drive it from syd to bris and with 3/4 of tank left in it. the clutch is hard and i do drive through city traffic. my car feels as normal as any other car untill boost hits at 4k then its hold on. personally i think a 300rwkw rb25 with forgies thats serviced regulARly and looked after can be driven every day with ease. thats my 2c

Hi RNS11Z, 300 rwkw is 410 rwhp and close to 500 bhp. That extra 50 bhp stretches just about everything past its "safe" limit. The rods are past it, the injectors are out of flow, it needs a big fuel pump (noisy buggers), the clutch really has to be multiplate, the std radiator is too small, needs an oil cooler, o'ringing the block or a metal headgasket is necessary, any drop in octane and it pings like crazy, ditto on hot days, gets cranky with the aircon on, needs a really big intercooler (cut the bumper etc), lots of fabrication ot fit parts (never as well engineered as standard) and you just can't drive them fast in the rain.

That's been my experience anyway. Plus I get a lot of similar comments from people at driver training days and suspension clinics that say they went just a bit too far with chasing more power. The happy ones have around the 260 rwkw in their GTST's and 300 rwkw in the GTR's. And that's right where you are 265 rwkw.

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance 
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened. 
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
