Hey guys

I just received my nismo fuel pump from nengun and am wondering if i should install the little fuel relief valve thingy ,its says on the nissan box "A VALVE CUT" , im not sure exactly what it is and what it does but im wondering if i should install it or keep the stock one, if i need to install it were does it go?

I need to get this pump in tonight so if anyone could please reply to this thread and let me know if i should use it or not that would be great.

Thanks alot

Jason

Not 100% sure but the guy who did the DIY thread on the Tomei pump had the same valve and i believe he didn't bother.

Apart from pump brand, the kit is similar to yours and has the same parts.

last i was there, it was lurking in the first page of the DIYs

How much was it?

'98 R33, nice one brother !

Hey mate

Yea i saw that DIY thread and the guy didnt bother installing that valve, but it must come in the kit for a reason, i dont think they would put it in there for nothing, anyway i will start doing the pump tonight and if i can see were that valve goes (Im guessing its just a replacement for the stock valve) i will put it in, but if i cant find were it goes i guess i will just leave it out, unless someone can tell me if it need to go in and were.

It cost me $420 nzd shipping if i can remember right, i choose it over the usual bosh/walboro setup as its a straight no hassel bolt in setup.

Cheers .

I think i remember seeing them installed between the pump and the screw-top for the tank..ie just above the pump itself if anywhere.

I just ordered the Tomei pump today too for the same reason as you.

Well, actually the main reason is the no noise factor.

It will run completely silent due to the ready made bracket and rubber housing.

Looking forward to putting mine in too

I installed it on mine, it worked for approx. 30km then I pulled it off the road to do more stuff to the turbo etc.

I think/thought it was a non return valve to stop your fuel line from draining back into your tank but when I blew into it it didn't do anything so FIIK. I thought it would valve off and on if I blew into it??? I had to put it on line on a bit of fuel hose.

Hmmm its interesting to see that some people have used it and some havnt, in my opinion the "relief valve" must come with the pump for some reason surely, it would seem strange to me if it didnt have much of a purpose.

Also the valve has a threaded end (it is a male thread, the thread is on the outisde) on the bottom of it like it is meant to screw onto something which i thought was a bit strange, maybe it will all make sense once i pull out my stock pump.

I bought a Nismo pump and I never used the pressure relief valve either (partly cos i couldn't figure out where to install it). I had the same questions about why they would include it if it wasn't *really* necessary.

From what I could find out, and as mentioned, it is installed to prevent the fuel from draining out of the lines. But, I guess that what your fpr is meant for too. The only other thing I could think of is that it would slow the draining of the fuel lines when the engine is not running?

Ok, what that valve is, is it's an anti reversion valve. What it means, is that when you turn off the car, the fuel line stays pressurised. If you don't have one, then you'll have to turn your car to on, let the pump prime, then start it. Otherwise, you'll need to press the gas a bit or it won't start.

The stock setup actually has one of those valves already. I suppose the reason why they supply you wiht a new valve, is because they expect that you'll be running more pressure/flow with the new pump, so maybe the new valve is better at handling that. Having said that I have used the stock valve, and haven't had any problems.

However, as it's there, I don't see why you would not use it? lol.it's just like howit comes with a new gasket, would you consider using your old one? What will you otherwise do wth the new one? sell it? lol

oh ok, that's interesting food for thought jase. I know that nissan is renowned for part sharing (all car manufacturers are). Just a guess, since s14 injectors and r33 injectors are the same. If the part numbers are the same, maybe that means that nissan went lazy and reused the exact cradle on both cars :P

who knows, all that I can say, is in regards to the valve, if I got a nice shiny new valve, i'd be like you beauty and pop it in anyways :O

Well ive just finished installing the pump :), was rather easy, only main problems i had were, took a while to actually find the right spot that the pump bracket mounts to as you cant really see into the tank so i had to just go by feel, took me a while but once its in the right spot you will feel it click into place, 2nd problem was trying get the dahm plactic screw on cap to go back on, in the end i got it on but that also took a while. those two things were the only main problems.

Now to the "relief valve",i decided to use it as it obviously came with the pump for a reason, so i followed the instructions/diagram on the instruction sheet which showed that you have to cut the standard "pump to feed line" at 260mm , this is then were you put the "relief valve", this is obviously why 2 new nismo clamps come with this kit as you need a clamp on each ends of the hose for the relief valve , i couldnt find anywere that the relief valve would screw into (remeber that it has a little thread on the end of it), so it is just hanging in there , this is most likley why nismo give you a specific measurement as to were to cut the fuel line, possibly so that it wont hit the inside of the fuel tank etc etc, i had a good look/feel around and the relief valve was far from hitting anything).

So to sum it all up it was a very easy install ,the car runs like stock and you cant hear any difference at all, i would reccomend this pump to everyone :), I would chose this pump over the usual walboro/bosch/gtr fuel pumps anyday, for a little bit of extra money your getting a pump that is hassel free to install and comes with everything you need, no mods required!

As a matter of interest, how muhc was it, and where did you order it from?

I know that the tomei pumps also come with the anti reversion valve, new tank seal, hose clamps, pump, and bracket.

Did the nismo pump also come with the bracket/cradle? or did it fit the stock bracket?

would you by any chance have taken a picture?

The nismo comes with the bracket, it would fit the stock bracket if required, but its not needed, the bracket supplied is exactly the same as the std one. I had a walbro on mine, and changed to a nismo, I sold the walbro with the bracket and all as a going concern. Ooh and I got mine from Nengun, can't remember how much, I think around $350.

Just checked, now $386 delivered.

    • I'm seeing torque specs all over the place for the OUTER tie rod, but none for the INNER tie rod, where it connects to the steering rack. Even in videos, people are just tightening em up as much as they can with a wrench and that's it. Anything tightened down without torque makes me nervous. Anyone know what the spec is for it?
    • Hope you had a great time here in our tiny country.   The JDM scene we have here is quite small, it's mostly BMW, Volkswagen with burble tunes haha. But the few JDM cars we do have in the scene are pretty nice. Some of my friends drive cool s14's too. Both built engines, red one makes abt 500, blue one abt 400 i think?
    • Ye good idea , would have never thought of something like that. Might aswell do it to every pulley and the balancer while I’m there
    • Use an LS1 or similar, via kit like Frenchy's. But.... It's probably not the alternator. It sounds like belt squeal, which would be because the pulleys are glazed. Rub every groove on the pulleys with 120 grit paper. Report back. Oh, and new belts afterwards too. The old new ones will be shitted up already.
    • Hello all I have 2 r34 sedans , one turbo one na, only recently aquired the na 34.  Man what is with these things.... My turbo 34 started sounding like a super charger, it was screaming at anything above 4000rpm , I took the alternator apart and replaced the front bearing which is the only one I think you can access and it did not fix the issue so presumably the bearing in the rear of the alternator is gone. ( diagnosed it was the alternator by taking off the aux belts one by one to figure out which pulley or bearing it was )  My friend gave me one he had lying around, Installed it , it did not squeal for maybe 500kms and now its started to squeal again briefly on startup  Recently got an na r34 and I replaced the timing belt, water pump + all the auxillirary belts. Runs amazing but it suddenly developed the same squeaking problem but significantly worse, Ive had my neighbour come down screaming at me because it was waking her up everytime I moved the car. It takes a good 2 minutes before it quietens down.  Im yet to diagnose where its coming from but im fairly sure its coming from the alternator aswell. My question isnt about how to fix it but rather where can you get a new alternator for an rb25 neo??? Ive searched everywhere but I havent been able to find a direct fit oem type replacement thats not genuine. All the automotive stores sell an oex one - BXA035 - which I picked up for cheap through a friend with staff discount , got it home only to find the connector is completelty different.... As far as im aware bxa035 is for rb20/30's and after a bit of figuring out the bxa035 has an ev14 type connector, which is tiny compared to the rb25 connector. I actually had an ev14 connector lying around which I was considering just replacing the bigger plug with to get the alternator working but the bxa035 is rated for 70amp vs the rb25 alternators are 90amp ( or so ive been told ? ) That paired along with the fact im about to install an amp + sub in the back and I have the stock sized small battery Im not sure itll do the job unless anyone has another opinion?  I know and have seen all the websites selling the ls1 alternator conversion kit but I am not going down that route, nor do I have the money to. Hopefully I can figure out how to get 2 brand new alternators for both cars. I would buy second hand which there seems to be many of but considering how common this seems to be im sure If I installed a second hand one it would start squealing in no time  Or even better if anyone knows how to fix the issue directly with the alternator itself... Any input appreciated Thank you     Link for bxa035 connector picture
