i got my car about a month ago and it has an aftermarket SAAS wheel

the middle part of the horn pulls out and it has two mettal prongs sticking out from the removable part

and then a wire on the inside of the hole in the wheel where the horn is ... with a spade like connector... but there is only one

so yeh. i dont have a horn and i hate it.

does anyone know how to fix this?

or should i just buy a new wheel?

Checked the fuse? Did the horn work when you got it? I don't know whether the skyline horns are negatively switched or not.. I think if they are negatively switched there will only be one wire.. ugh someone else may be able to help you

i know my horn only has 1 wire going to it, pretty sure the steering wheel only has the one wire coming off it to.

try swapping the wire to the other terminal and see if that works.. if not, try the fuse as suggested before, or even try another horn!

or... get your bf to do it for you

I had the same problem with my r32, check all of the above as well as look at the horn itself (usually in front of the radiator) The wire may have fallen off there or check the front of the horn is not touching anything, this will stop it working too. If none of the above work let me know and ill see what i can do. Also you can see if the button is stuffed by touching the wire on a ground (the bolt that holds the wheel on should do) if the horn sound this way and not with the button you can just get a new button.

Check the fuse first. Change it out (even if it looks ok). If that doesnt solve it then :

The one wire on your boss kit is a positive wire that links up to your horn. There is no negative wire, because your car is negative earthed, and so doesnt need it. To be honest it doesnt sound like an issue at the steering wheel end. Just get a test pen and check that the single wire has power going to it.

If the single wire has power going to it, then you'd check the horn side of things. Pull the wire off the horn and check it isnt corroded etc. Then get a test pen / multimeter and bridge between that wire and the body of the car. Get someone to press the horn inside the car and check that the wire is getting 12 volts. If it isnt theres a wiring / fuse issue. If it is, but you connect the wire back up to the horn and no go, then the horn is stuffed.

Hope that helps a bit.

    • I found the same with Subaru’s.  I own and love the SG9 Forester, after that model 2008+, Subaru threw the ugly stick at all their line up and somehow managed to make them look worse with every succeeding year.  lol
    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
