Hi guys,

Being new to mods, I wanted to nut out a bit of a mod plan and hopefully get the benefit of all your guys experience.. Anyway, my goals are fairly simple, but numbers don't really mean all that much to me, so I'm not chasing a specific power / time...

- The ability to have 2 or 3 driving modes, with a button / switch to choose between. Engine needs to still be running.

- Normal mode - fairly stock performance. Normal daily driving, nothing exciting, and I hope to have this as a fairly fuel efficient setting.

- Fast mode - for when I need a bit of fun, a run at the lights, maybe a couple of track runs. More boost (maybe 14psi or something), more aggressive timing (or tuning or whatever), fuel efficiency isn't foremost on my mind.

- Maybe (if possible to have a 3rd mode) a detuned mode for when more conservative driving is needed (wet, bad conditions, sister / father driving, etc)

My car is a stock S1 R33 GTS-T.

So, what I was thinking was (in order):

- Wolf 3d ECU - supposed to have interchangable settings, etc. I should be able go get the 2 or 3 driving modes working almost straight away... Also the ability to change the boost with these settings might be possible too :-)

- 3" exhaust. I would prefer quiet, even to the extent of sacrificing a bit of power. I don't want an exhaust because it makes the car sound loud.

- FMIC + air filter - would CAI + pod be better, or a good panel filter still be OK?

- Some sort of turbo upgrade... I would prefer as close to stock lag as possible, but it's gotta be running more PSI than the stock one can handle.. I hear a high-flow turbo would be good for this, and with a reasonable cost?

Now, I don't like the ability to go faster if I can't stop faster, so somewhere in there I'd like to look at brakes and suspension. Probably pad upgrades all round, with slotted front rotors, and some sort of adjustable full suspension kit.

These will all be incremental mods for when I get the time and money to do each.

Anyway, have I missed anything out? Any comments? Or am I just making a newbie fool of myself? I think most of the mods are fairly standard... I guess I might be going overboard in some areas, like the ECU, but I like some of the features provided by it.

Oh, another thing I'd also like is to keep the car looking / sounding as stock as possible. I don't want the uninvited attention of the boys in blue (and the guys in black), plus the idea of a sleeper skyline appeals to me :-)

So, to that:

- Is it feasable to have the muffler with twin exhausts, like stock, or is that sacrificing just too much power?

- How quiet can an exhaust go before you're losing too much power?

- Will a pod + CAI give enough extra power to warrant ditching the stock box with something like a K&N filter... What kind of extra noise does the pod + CAI produce? Induction noise is OK, as long as it's not too loud.

- I have the optional enhanced front bar. If I put a FMIC in behind that, is it going to lose too much of it's efficiency if I don't chop out that bit in the middle (with the numberplate bracket)? Or is it possible to rig something up so I can keep that little bit (and disguise the FMIC to an extent).

- Would it be better to go for 17" wheels with fatter rear tyres (probably at the expense of tyre quality to an extent - I'm not made of money), or will stock wheels with some nice rubber be fine (keeping in line with the stock look)?

- How many of these mods will be illegal / need engineers certificate (in NSW)?

And finally, does anyone want to donate a few grand to this good cause :)
