Hi guys,

Just added an s-afc and a HKS EVC 3 to the car, and it dyno'ed at 255hp with 200rwkw at 13psi (did 270hp at 15psi)

my mods include:

hi-flowed T03 with T04 compressor

full turbo back exhaust

s-afc

EVC 3 boost controller

stock intercooler

I'm wondering whether or not this is the power it SHOULD be making or whether it is lacking anything.

And what would be a good quartermile time for a car like this

All input will be greatly appreciated

Zak

the car is a 1995 R33 Gts-t

hmmmm.. does look you're not pushing much more than the standard 180-200rwkw most stock turbo people can get.

everything must be running pretty hot, thats all i can say! What has your tuner told you in terms of why you aren't getting more?? I am sure the first thing he *must* have said was the i/c.. even a cheapish GTR cooler should give u large gains.

Well I've never seen the stock turbo make 200rwkw with the standard intercooler, so there's definately more power to be had, I imagine another 30rwkw would be on the cards with a FMIC.

1/4 mile times for your current setup should be mid-low 13's, with the FMIC you can certainly crack a high 12 if you can get the power to the ground, I've noticed alot of peoples times don't drop much with the increase of power but the mph do go up indicating not much traction, so in my opinion any thing over 230rwkw must have slicks to race with or your just wasting your time.

Not being picky (just filling in time)

255hp = 190rwkw @ 13psi

270hp = 201rwkw @ 15psi

correct ?

:bahaha:

I'd personally be U/G'ing the stock IC @ ~170rwkw.

yea i know I should be replacing the stock cooler...haven't had the funds for that kinda work yet. I've got one on hold, $1500 for cooler plus piping...good price or not? any better deals?

I don't run it at 13psi all the time, 9psi is good enough for the streets. Can't afford to go nuts around here anymore

I was told by several ppl the car could make into the high 12's if the launch is a great one.

benm u're right about the numbers...my mistake

How can an i/c increase power... doesn't it just allow for longer lasting power by keeping things cool?

So by adding fmic to a line that already has exhaust and filter, will see increase in power?

FMIC with the usuall mods of more boost, exhaust, filter etc... won't yield great results without the introduction of at least an SAFC or full replacement ECU, as those mods generally see the A/F ratio run deep into the 10:1's, but once the A/F is returned to a respectable 12:1 that's when the results come.

With FMIC, exh, stock turbo my car made 168rwkw, with the SAFC tuned at 11.8:1 it made 188rwkw@12psi, only 20kw more in peak power but power was up all through the rev range and the greatest gain was at 5500rpm where it made 44kw more.

All you guys are forgetting about flow. There is power to be had if you increase flow. This is the main restriction with the stock cooler. You will make more power at the same boost level and temp with a larger better flowing core. Try testing your boost level first before your stock cooler and then after and you`ll understand. No flow-no power no matter what the temp.

does your tuner realise that there is around 7 or more psi pressure drop through the stock cooler? and with a bigger turbo flowing more air it would be even worse!

I'd suggest an upgrade of the cooler and the computer. I've always been of the opinion that if you change the turbo, you change the computer (and a SAFC isn't really a full computer change imo). There's a lot of power to be had in adjusting the timing I think.

2 other things, my car became a lot more powerful with just a cooler change, so I really recommend it. Also, I feel 14psi is fine as a constant setting for the street because you aren't holding it at that like you are on the track.

BOOSTD, sorry that post wasnt very clear was it.

I was just suggesting that with a stock cooler on stock turbo, it is inadvisable to wind boost past about 12psi because of the pressure drop on the stock cooler - as you pointed out. With a stock turbo on FMIC, you can only get another 2.5 psi, because after that the resistance generated by the compressor causes alot of strain on the ceramic turbine, and failure is a matter of time - so the net total boost increase (flow gain) is only a couple of psi - safely. Definately a couple of psi worth having though.

As boost pressure is measured from the plenum, the boost seen by the engine is still going to be the same with bigger cooler, it will just be cooler, denser charge. (unless you wind the boost up)

I do understand that you were pointing at the huge pressure drop on the stock cooler above 6000prm:)

the above figures do not allow for the BOOSTD 'give it 1.1bar till she blows' theory...lol

does that make more sense?

    • He obviously had his reason for flipping you off. I wonder what it was...
    • Thats why I stay far, far away from Eastwood. only go there if I wanna eat Korean food
    • I have to agree like, yesterday, I was driving down the warringah freeway towards the bridge when this jackass driving a beaten up Honda civic cut me off so suddenly it made me almost yank the wheel to avoid him hitting my car. Honestly and he had the NERVE to flip me off (or some other gesture Idk). Im a calm guy, but really some people just dont deserve to have a license, let alone be allowed to drive on densely populated roads/highways. If youre gonna cut through lanes at least use the damn turn signal
    • HPA do an interesting video on tuning, and Adrian shows on the dyno, moving from 10:1 to 12:1 (And I think even 13:1) and the power moves SFA. However, a couple of degrees of timing has a HUGE impact. Exhaust side of things will more be the length of the exhaust and how many bends and turns you have. The straighter you can keep it, the better. By a lot. Oh, and getting the diameter right. Bigger isn't always better. Going to big can actually lose you power.
    • I have to say, most people I see on the road fit the bill of atrocious drivers. Whether they be cowboys in their dual cabs, bogans in the Commodores, or the soccer mums. Pretty much most people on the road put zero freaking thought into driving. Barely look further up the road then the end of their bonnet, and have never even thought about how catastrophically wrong shit can go, by doing what they all deem as normal driving. Especially their late braking, racing to stopped lights, and sitting half a foot off the bumper of the car in front at 110km/h. Wanna know what's even better? By the time their kids get to be old enough to learn to drive, they've already got in the back of their brain what is normal driving, how annoyed you're allowed to get at people etc, and then their parents who actually have zero freaking skill at driving (Even though they constantly say "I've been driving for 20 years and never had an accident!") teach the little twerps how to drive, or should I say, how to make a car move. Literally watched a parent teach their L Plater, on a 4 lane freeway, that you just slam the brakes on, and push your way over, even with a B Double bearing down on you, and that's how you should drive, rather then, just keep going to the next exit. Same shit happens all the time for side streets etc, watching numpties pull dumb shit turns pushing across 3 lanes of traffic, rather than just go up the road another 30 seconds, and take the next turn that'll get you to the same location... Oh, and the damn right lane bandits. Or the retards driving along with their headphones in, and can't hear the ambulance or fire truck right up their ass about to run them over...   Pretty much, people drive on the road, like ego centric f**ks, and don't actually think how dumb shit their driving is, how it could easily kill them or someone else in a split second, or at the very least, how they're driving is contributing to all the shit they're bitching about on the road, like shitty congestion!
