and in a straight line (with good mods), Autos will beat Manuals...

if the manual has the same mods the manual will still win, unless you are talking 10 second cars, or the manual driver keeps missing gears. manaul gearboxes are lighter, you can change faster and at the rpm you want it to change at. if you are talking BIG power cars then an auto can be the way to go.

the best way to launch an auto is, as people have said, left foot on brake, right foot on gas, bring revs up till the car is about to start wheelspinning. if you are coordinated enough you can use the hand brake too. this will add more braking power onto the rear wheels.

using the handbrake is a good way to load up a manual car too. doesn't do the clutch much good though.

thanks guys. been meaning to ask this question but keep forgetting that i wanna know. is it possible to do a standstill burnout in an auto as well?

i skipped most of the replys so its poserbly all ready being said. but yes you can do a burnout in an auto and it is easer then a manual.

just bring the car to a stand still. step on the brake bring the revs up release the brake a smudge, (this locks up the front brakes) keep incressing revs and you should have the rear wheels burning. then just controll how much power you give it and how much brake you wont (to controll how fast the car moves)

This is being a little mean but i had these conversations with friends in i think Grade 4 when i was learning my 7 & 8's times tables.. but not up

to my 9's as yet.. they were a little hard at that time...

But anyway, straight out unless ur car is making 200rwkws and u have 3:9's or higher gears ratios in the diff auto sucks and manual is much more fun..

People who say auto is faster etc etc, can eat an overdue banana. Manual delivers power in a completely different way, more power goes

to the wheels with a manual gearbox as to an auto in ANY car..

As said earlier in this topic, autos are only quicker when cars are running 10 second passes and u need more traction, manuals are full of

wheelspin when ur popping the clutch and smashing through gears because of the way the power is being delivered to the wheels..

I had an auto Passage with 110rwkws and no matter how hard i stalled up the auto off the line a manual sigma would keep up untill atleast 40kms.. lol

Auto Trans rebuilds are too expensive, its LOTS cheaper to purchase a 2nd hand one as they are being sold for a couple of hundred bucks. I picked up a second hand one for 2 cartons of beer that I saw come off a car and the only reason it was changed was for a manual conversion. I will be slowly upgrading the trans to have a manual shift kit, hi-stall and new bands ect.... So that when mine goes bang, it will be easy to swap over. But for now I have a bigger trans cooler and I also service it every 10k, so I am not expecting it to break any time soon.
