Does anyone know if the factory plastic body parts (front bar, side skirts) etc are made from the type of plastic that can be repaired by plastic welding?

I have found a place that can do it IF it is the right type of plastic - does anyone know to save me taking them in for noting?

Thanks

I had my front bar and sideskirts plastic welded on my R32 GTST, they came out looking perfect :)

But I ran into a tap on a mates front lawn not too long ago and it cracked at the plastic weld on the front bar :)

Good news for me :) thanks mate -

bad luck with the tap, a front lawn - thats like taking the line 4WDing

Sure can. The bar should have the letters PP on the inside. That should tell him what kind of plastic to use,

It is the skirts I want fixed actually, ill see if there is anything written on them.

Thanks

if you dont have any luck finding someone to do this for you ( and you get desperate ) there is a product on the market called QuickBond ( I think ) made in South Africa. Basically its superglue with a twist! they also supply a filling powder that chemically reacts with the glue. serves to strengthen superglue ( quite brittle on its own ) .. I used some of this to fix up a dash on an old car and it came up pretty well.

Quickbond can be had from Repco last time I checked!

oh and this information is provided with ALL CARE NO RESPONSIBILITY.. good idea to spot test on a bit you dont see and just see if the plastic reacts badly. the hint they give you of using a bit of masking tape on the other side of the crack to be filled works a treat.

Hope that helps!
