The GTS-T is a much lighter car than the GTR, and if you're going to run RWD anyway, then there's little use in carrying the added weight of 4WD. Another thing to bear in mind is the maintenance and repair costs of a GTS-T compared to a GTR. Find out how much for a used RB20 and RB26... ;)

That said, a GTR is a GTR, and for that reason alone, it's always seen as the preferred option. Most people like to own a GTR so they can brag about owning one -- but for actually driving and maintaining a ride (especially in RWD), go the GTS-T.

you probably got an extremely clean gtr and well taken care of gtr. end of the day it all depends on the car you can have a gtst which will give just as many problems. my old gtst cost me about 4.5k in repairs inside a year of owning it. just need ot look hard for something in good condition is all.

Well owning a bmw I dont think the cost could be that bad!

I would rather have the GTR as it has the more power potential, And is there any common problems found in the R32 GTR. I have searched and been reading around the forum for a while now even though its 4 or 5th post

mate ive owned a bmw before the money that i spent on that thing doesnt even come close to owning and maintaing a gtr. eg i had my bmw fro 18-21 yeah 2 services a year and tyres once a year all up around $3000.00 my gtr has cost me a engine replacement and a whole lot of other shit all up $12,000.00 in 7 months of owning do the maths chief what would u prefer.

Well I think the following Spiderbait lyrics may help explain the above post:

I saw Johnny Cash

Saw Johnny Cash

And he was smashed

Johnny Cash...

Just a joke, so please don't get all riled up. :(

But anyway to the specifics. There are any number of items on a GT-R that are cheaper to maintain than their equivalent in an RB20. Like the gearbox for instance - simply because you won't wreck them anywhere near as often. There are also any number of items on a GT-R that don't need upgrading whereas a GTS-T will eg I/C. Further there a large number of items that are common to the two cars.

Yes an RB26 is more expensive to buy second hand than a 20. But is it more expensive to rebuild than a 20? Not much & you will get much more hp & more reliability from the big brother motor.

I own a GT-R & you can be damn sure it is not so I can brag about it. Quite the opposite as there are two downsides to GT-R ownership.

Firstly the bogons who think you care for their opinion about its merits relative to, say a Monaro.

Secondly the teenagers who think it is fully sik just like the one on their playstation.

Which means I very much prefer to shut up about ownership unless I know who I am talking to.

Lastly if you want to run RWD because you are of the opinion the GT-R is not as much fun to drive based on its AWD drivetrain I can assure you you needn't worry on that score.

If you buy a GTST it will NEVER be a GTR. no matter how much you spend on it.

GTR has the following:

Larger capacity motor with more torque, response and horsepower

Stronger gearbox

1 way mechanical LSD

4 piston callipers and larger rotors

better suspension

wider guards, offset.

bigger intercooler

better seats, more guages

ect ect.

I have spent close to 10g on parts for my little GTST not a GTR nor will it ever be.

Unless you are going to drift it buy a GTR they are superior in every way.

If you are ever going to park it on the street buy a GTST :P

GTR FTW!!

that is coming from a very proud gtst owner!

oh and to add, driving a r32 gtr in 4wd mode is as much fun as driving it rwd, cept in 4wd you get less chance of putting up a curb. 4wd owns in the wet, up hill also. added weight is no big deal, 6k launches are great fun too.

either way, go the gtr or else youll regret it.

don't buy a gtr if your are poor.

don't buy a performance car if you are poor.

don't modify a peformance car if you are poor.

The GTR is worth every dollar of the thousands it costs to keep on the road every year, they are so much fun. A pretty stock one even quite old manages low 12's when driven with aggression.

don't buy one if you are poor, no matter how cheap they are initially. I see too many young guys get burnt.

    • Would this not be the same for the exhaust you've posted up?  If your exhaust volume and emissions are fine, why does the brand of pipe matter?
    • The issue is more the fact that there is inspectors that deal with japanese cars a lot and they might know what a real Mines pipe looks like. And then they're gonna get antsy and not pass your car. But I'd have to talk to one of them about this, because you know as well as me that it's just a damn pipe and it effectively doesn't do anything. As I need to have my GT2860s and my exhaust setup (and the increase in HP) TÜV'd anyways maybe they can just correct the entry in the papers or assign a badge to the front pipe. I'm no expert either though, will inquire about this.     Thanks for the insight. Not sure if having a custom made pipe is good or not. Will find out in due time I suppose. Would be kind of funny if this was made in Germany though.
    • See this is a really tricky topic as technically the same rules apply to all cars but for cars but there is a difference. If you want to modify a car like the Skyline which never existed here you have a bit more freedom as they do not adhere to EU specs anyway. Any modification you do has to be in dividually checked anyway so as long as one of the inspectors think it's ok and within the TÜV ruleset you can get stuff like a top secret rear diffuser put in your papers. Which frankly would need a shitload of tests and certificates for EU spec cars, like a 2010 BMW M3 for example. But if you DO run these tests and all tests come out ok (safety stuff for the most part) there is no problem running such a part legally. It's just way too expensive to do for a single person on one car. The most touchy parts are emissions related mods, like an exhaust, turbos, air intakes. If it makes noise or alters the carbon emissions it's essentially illegal until you prove it's not. Meaning it doesn't exceed noise limits or have worse carbon emissions. I'd say for hoses if you replace them same same it doesn't matter what material they are or what brand you use. Same for nuts and bolts usually, they won't go and specifically check that your water hoses and some bolts are 100% OEM parts, that is nonsense.
    • What I don't understand here is that it mentions using a sealant. So either way you're ruining the inside of the tire and making a huge mess to clean up. Why not just do that, air it back up to spec, then take it all off and put it back in the car? Also, why not just include a plug kit that's not garbage?
    • What a f**king weener. I have worked in Gary, IN. At the time there were more gun deaths each night there than almost anywhere else in the world. Still not a reason to be afraid. 95% of people from your part of the world only have 3 teeth left from when you were addicted to meth, and now you're perpetually wrecked by Fentanyl. The only saving grace is that most of you didn't vote for Trumpler. Speaking of which, I'm off to the oval office right now. Got to relieve my bowels.
