Hi all,

I have just recently purchased an R33 skyline GTSt (S1) and this is a photo of the engine bay:

As you can see, I have circled what appears to be the aftermark bov in the left of the picture which is on a welded on flange on the return pipe, but on the RHS of the pic is that the stock unit as well?

ie. is my car running a dual bov setup? Why would someone have done this?

The reason I ask is, I dont like the aftermarket bov venting to atmosphere, as its a defect waiting to happen, and I dont like the PPSSSHHTT either LOL.

SO can I replace the return pipe from the cooler with the factory item to remove the BOV and the factory one will still perform its job?

Cheers for the help, new the the turbo stuff :)

PS I searched but was unable to find an answer as to why this would have been done, or if I could remove it

I am wondering the same thing, yes that is a dual BOV setup with the stock one but how does this affect anything if the stock one is still doing its job and you have to tighten up the second one all the way so its useless?

I have a Blitz SS one (ultra cool lol) and i want to use it as my standard one but I think this would mean I would have the idle problems once more...

There should not be an issue for you to use the stock one if you want to get rid of your aftermarket one but you must know in terms of boosting your turbo, the stock bov has its limitations and there is a few ways to get rid of this limitation in the DIY section.

Thanks for the reply Pauly. I won't be boosting the car any time soon. At the moment it only has a cat back exhaust and mushroom pod, stock IC. So my intention is to finish off the exhaust and then maybe look at boost later. I just hate the ATMO BOV, so if I replace the pipe with a piece of factory pipe, all will be good?

i know this guy that had the same setup as u

he said the only reason y he chose to have the stock bov and atom is because the stock one eliminated the stalling problems and the wanted the atom one for the noise only

but on ur car do u have any stalling problems?

thats what I had, now I got only stock, but i want the atmo one where the stock one is... this requires an adapter, and an AFC to tune the idle properly... otherwise have fun stalling..

look in the "BOV LEGALS" thread in this forum, that adz started, i give a bit of example of what can happen if u dc the stock to run just an atmo with a stock ecu... its dangerous shit.

it's probably just been left there to plug up the hole.. really the only time you're actually going to stall the engine with a venting BOV is if you build boost, lift off the accelerator in turn venting any compressed intake charge then push and hold the clutch in (if you were changing gears then you would effectivly be clutch starting the engine without even noticing).. this doesn't actually happen all that often so it's not as bigger issue as what you're making it out to be and i also don't see how this is dangerous for the engine? the engine is stalling because it's running rich, if the engine was stalling because it was running lean then yes, you may have problems.. correct me if i'm wrong
