I have seen guys get defected for the standard, aftermarket and no BOV so you can't win...

thats cos the police officer that defected them didn't know wtf was going on, it says in the epa guidelines that a plumb back bov is allowed if the car was fitted from factory with a bov.... theres too much contradiction in what is enforced and what is the actual law...

but your right lose lose if the cop wants your ass on a dinner plate...

your stock bov is plumb back... otherwise known as a silencer, a recirculation valve, stock bov, plumb back...

look at my mods list, this is why i stall alot, i get like 250k's out a tank on stock ecu i need a tune badly, this stalling only happened when the STOCK BOV was removed... atmo also on there or not it stalls.

You will find if you block your stock one up (Thread in DIY section) then you will notice the car will stall when you approach lights, in parking areas, etc etc. So the only thing that fixed this is a AFC or a ECU apparently.

I love my BOVs/flutter, but dont do this, trust me i tried and lost power, car kept stalling etc etc. Went back to normal for a while and just yesterday actually, i put on my HKS SSQV again, bit of custom work and made sweet flutter without all the "side effects" :D Actually i can get both choooo and cho cho cho with it :( And it sounds cooler then the stock flutter :sorcerer:

big question tho is it LEGAL!?

I bought a Stealth FX BOV which is plumb back but also has a removable trumpet on it. These are supposed to be legal as far as I know.

Anyway a cop pulled me up and I had to pop the bonnet, took a look and said that the BOV was a defect because it was atmo. I unscrewed the trumpet and said, nah now it's plumb back :) and he goes, oh, ok... no defect.

Mind you this cop wasn't too bright, he pointed at my intercooler and asked what it was, decided to try something I've heard another person did and informed him that I think it's an air conditioning condensor... He goes, alright then...

So I suppose it depends on the cop, this guy obviously needed to brush up on his mechanical knowledge :D

Oh, and he didn't even look at the pod...

Dan mate, Id start buying stock parts asap lol. A Red/Maroon skyline was caught speeding away from our school with my soccer clubs valuables in the car, the cops are looking for a maroon skyline in the general area, I wouldnt take it out for a few weeks.

big question tho is it LEGAL!?

Mate how many fkin times do you have to be told the same thing?

Vent to ATMO blow off valves, like the HKS SSQ etc, "illegal"/defectable.

Plumb back - Not defectable

No BOV - not defectable

Flutter from not having a BOV - same shit as no BOV, not defectable.

The sound doesn't mean shit. If the ATMO BOV is there, then defectable. If not, then no. Plain and simple. Forget the sound when it comes to defectable or not, it's the type of BOV that matters.

And there was an actual reason regarding to pollution that atmo BOV's were illegal. The whole over fueling thing with AFM equipped cars i think. Well, i suppose there's one "legitemate" route they can take.

    • I don't run the spring but it means you need to set your own belt tension.  I put tensioners on both sides too.
    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
