well GGG are the softs, I would say SG are probably even softer, like maybe a wet compound, or motokhana compound. ie, desinged to come up to temp very quickly.

i wouldn't worry about it too much, but if you were buying again I'd say go the G or GG.

Page 3 of this PDF goes into a bit of detail about the compounds and suitability.

Looks like SG is the softest compound. Should be suitable for a few hot laps at a time. Not ideal for hot track temps or too many laps without cool down.

they would be ok, but no where near as good as drag radials as the sidewalls of the toyos (like all circuit biased semi slicks) is soo stiff it doesn't give that great launch you can get with the drag radials.

hmm.....

I havent used mine yet - I got the ones from St George tyres

But I guess for my sort of usage - i.e. 'kharna's and few track days - Im not that quick on the pace nor do I go "that" hard - Im confident they'll be perfect for my useage

but of course, I'll keep you all updated when I finally get them on for a session or 11ty :)

Hey Guys,

Just thought I would stick my head in and mention that the Tyres being sold from Taleb Tyres were not sourced through Toyo Tyre and Rubber Australia.

The following is an abstract taken from an official bulletin released from Toyo Tyre and Rubber Australia.

"Toyo Tyre & Rubber Australia Limited has been importing very small quantities of Proxes R888 with the "GGG" compound, in the 195/55R15 size only, for specific users through Toyo motor sport tyre dealers. "GGG" compound tyres have only been provided to users after the motor sport tyre dealer & Tyre Technical Department have identified the using conditions as being suitable for this tread compound."

"Retailers and wholesalers of parallel import Proxes R888 tyres are not specialist Toyo motor sport tyre dealers and are therefore unlikely to have the knowledge to advise Toyo motor sport tyre dealers and are therefore unlikely to have the knowledge to advise end users regarding the product that is best suited to their application. Most importantly,it is unlikely that end users purchasing parallel import Proxes R888 tyres know the tread compound of the tyres they are purchasing. "GGG" & "SG" tread compound tyres are suitable for a very narrow range of using conditions. It is unlikely that end users purchasing parallel import Proxes R888 tyres with "GGG" & "SG" tread compounds will have tyres that are suitable for their using conditions, and therefore are likely to be disappointed with the performance of these tyres."

Not saying don't buy them guys, but be careful >_<

Cheers,

Dan.

    • They've had some weird failures on their brake actuators. One of them was because they added some kind of lubricant to the factory fill brake fluid that aftermarket brake fluid didn't have so it would affect the seals. Another was just mysterious, probably internal corrosion or something eating away at Prius brake actuators. Parts alone for those are a few thousand USD so not a cheap fix.

    • KYBs are typically twin tube, putting them in the lower tier of desireability. Do you just want to replace worn out ones for the lowest cost? I mean, you wouldn't just replace one end of a car, if the rears are a similar age to the fronts, then they are probably nowhere near what they should be, and likely won't be great against brand new fronts. So, to spend ~$800 on 2nd tier dampers, when you could get a decent set of MCA coilovers for <$4k.....? As to the strut tops. 1st up, the Sparesbox site specifically tells you that they are not correct for an R33. Beyond that, why do you think you need them?
    • That's not very Toyota of the Toyota!
    • Bringing an old thread back to life Looking to put some new front shocks in the r33Gtst and the KYB still look ok for a road car. Unless there are any other options aroind that price $200 a shock?  I’d like to replace the strut tops also, is this the correct KYB no. For the strut top, KSM7124?  https://www.sparesbox.com.au/products/kyb-strut-top-mount-ksm7124?srsltid=AfmBOoq-HDru8wSlLnQrhU9gCw_uYdKg8gUQzONY-EQOdnI5iXOWEUjY 341287 appears to be the front KYB shocks part no.  thanks all
