Snapped Camshaft

hey guys ive got a slight issue with my car atm *rb20*, all i need to know is does the cam shaft need to be replaced if the half moon snaps off the end of the cam shaft? i know there is splines on the outer of the cam, i dont think its a major issue, hardest part will be re aligning the cas... so does the cam need to be changed?

No it doesnt need to be replaced, but its an actual bitch to get it lined up. You have to put the cas in the crank it with timing light see where you are at, then pull it out and move it to get it closer as you dont know what splines it should be in. But once that is set up its the same as if it had the moon.

hmm i gotcha, so is the half moon part of the cam? or no? i honestly dnt know cant remember from last time i pulled it down,

it is part of the cam but there are the splines or what ever on the outside, half moon is just there so it means you get the CAS in the correct spot everytime. My tuner installed 2nd hand HKS cams into a gtr the other week and the cam had that moon snapped off, he said it was a bitch because its trial and error to get it in the correct one.

well i cant believe it, i just fitted the cas back up and ran it, first go and its sweet. im only worried now when i get it tuned they remoove the cas to adjust cam gears and it wont line back up, lol thanks for ur help mate.

You dont need to use trial and error, just look where the part has broken off in the cam and line that up with the hole for the half moon drive in the sensor, done it heaps of times.
