I just installed a Trust Airinx on the weekend, and right now I'm considering taking it off. Does anyone else have one? It has to be the loudest piece of **** I've put in my car. Are they supposed to sound like an extra loud vacuum cleaner on intake and a horse when you let go of the throttle? I expected a little bit of extra noise, but this is ridiculous.

I was going to record a sample of it and put the MP3 of it up, but I just thought I'd check first. Maybe I've screwed up the installation.

I'm going to make an insulated box to go around it quiten it a bit (and hopefully only let in cold air). Will this make much of a difference?

As an aside, anyone who reckons a pod filter is a good substitute for the BOV noise is kidding themselves. It sounds terrible, nothing like the clean tccchhh sound of a BOV.

Cheers,

Michael

Yes it is supposed to be loud and if you get that "Horse" sound then your bov is not working efficiently enough.

Trust make a good filter but unfortunately it always comes last in filter tests with k&n first and HKS,blitz and apexi in close succsession.

If you have the option to get rid of it and get the apexi then do it.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Boostmeister:

The whole reason I bought it was based on a magazine comparison. It had equal best filtration and the best performance. I'll have to find the mag it was in.

Now, about the BOV not working efficiently enough, I've got the stock one. I thought that was good for a fair bit above the stock power. I don't think I'm too much above stock power levels, in fact I'm still running 7 psi boost. I used to have a Blitz atmo one in series with the stock BOV, but that went when I put the FMIC on. So do you think my stocker is faulty? I'll replace it anyway as I miss my BOV noise :)

I'll have a look for you. No promises though. It was a pretty good article actually. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought the pod on their recommendation. I reckon that since it's as loud as it is, it has to have good airflow (ie good performance) but the filtration would be down. The article didn't agree with that though, as it said it had good filtration.

I also think that it would be good if there was only one company that evaluated all the performance parts.

Yeah I'll check them out. The article I read may have even been from there. Not sure though.

I remember one thing the article said though, the reason they liked the Trust was because it was a dry filter, which meant it wouldn't foul the AFM with oil like many of the other ones can do.

Black33,

The article I read said it filtered very well, and since it was a dry filter, it wouldn't get oil on your AFM. It certainly isn't a BAD filter. I think all the filters mentioned are all the best of the best, so it isn't like you're tying a handkerchief over the inlet pipe or anything.
