Hi XXXXXXX,

Thank you for your email and advising me that I am under surveillance by local car clubs.

Regards my personal information - it has been published to the web back since Dec last year.

If anyone wants to talk to me then thats fine or they can email me as you have done or take part in the forums on our site.

Being recorded on video is part of everyday life these days. It is a shame that I am not a bit more photogenic otherwise I would have no complaints. In the interim, I suppose it is something that i just have to learn to live with. It seems to be part of modern life.

The objective of Roadside Watch is to try and reduce the number of people who are maimed and killed on the roads.

It is only those who deliberately break the law or endanger the lives of others that have anything to worry about from Roadside Watch. Our focus is on anyone who drives dangerously - regardless of the car that they drive and regardless of age!

In some cases, this maybe a granny hoon who fails to look properly when reversing, or a yuppie hoon or anyone else using a hand-held mobile phone while driving or a mummy hoon who is too busy worrying about the kids in the back seat to attend to the road.

Surely it is not right to deliberately endanger the lives of others for whatever reason.

But perhaps I have got it wrong. Let me know what you think.

Loraine.

BTW We are actually in support of Car Clubs. We think that a lot of their members do a a very valuable job in providing events and venues for car enthusiasts. We see them as being an important part of the solution.

is she that stupid?

One of the egyptian pharo's (I just murdered the history book with spelling mistakes) was killed hooning his charriot around.

As long as man has powered transport he will want to go as fast as he can. Its fun, it gets the blood pumping and it wakes you up and makes you feel alive. Thats never going to change, society is never going to reach some enlightened height where we can all live our lives without the adrenilin rush and wake up to "diddly bop ho son, the nancies won the cricket, i do say chap isnt that wounderful" so dob in a stupid bitch on a crusade.

Worst Website Ever.

/tired rant ovah

these guys are really going to be bias anyway, if a granny stops in the middle of the road and does a dangerous parking manouver and indangers lives, do u think they will pass that on to the cops, i dont think so, the cops dont care about stuff like that, they want ppl speeding, skiding, racing, something that will hold up in court. so while they claim this site is for "hoons" of all types, that is just to cover there arses, so they dont look like they are picking on one particular road user group.

such a wank.

go do something comstructive like help ice addicts, im sure they are causing more ruckus than so called "hoons"

Ridiculous anyhow.. It's the cops job to enforce that, not members of the public.

If these people think there is inadequate numbers of police enforcing the road rules, then they should be campaigning to have more police enforcing the road rules. Not taking things into their own hands, as it will result in them getting physically attacked eventually, and putting their own lives at risk.

All for what is a minor issue anyhow - the road toll is actually a fairly minor problem in our society, and has come down from massive numbers pre-80's to something that will always be fairly static. People (like these idiots) just need to accept this and stop believing the rhetoric on ACA, TT, the tabloids, etc which is targeted towards morons, and which makes things out as 'out of control'.

After some thinking, I've decided to post an email I received back from Loraine in reply to some concerns I put forward to her.

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for your thoughts on everything.

We need to do a much better job in terms of letting people know that we are absolutely definately focused on anyone endangering the lives of others on our roads.

I spent some time in Feb this year attempting to film a road safety promo for Roadside Watch. It was called 'granny hoon'. I think if we had been successful in filming it and getting it out there on the media, there would have been no problems regards exactly where we are coming from. ie our focus is very much on road safety across the board. Unfortunately, we were not able to complete it ourselves although we did have a whole heap of really fantastic young people giving us a hand.

At the moment, we trying to turn the script into a video making competition and are looking for a sponsor to donate some really nice prizes. When we get that lined up, we will be in a position to go ahead. A lot of our progress has been stalled by the amount of time and energy we have had to put into getting the web-site functional. It has been a real problem.

We have very limited resouses and sometimes we dont get to where we want or even need to go, nearly as quickly as we would like.

We have taken on board what you have said about the perception of most car clubs and enthusiasts. We really need to somehow correct this, because I can understand the anger when the people who are trying to do the right thing on the roads but do drive a 'hot' looking vehicle get pulled over for nothing. We have had a lot of reports of this to our website.

We need time to have a look at the whole thing and work out what we are doing right and what we are doing wrong. It is wrong that people are pulled over because of the car that they drive or because of their age!

Regarding videoing people under legal age, we have received some legal advise on this, particularly in regards to interviews that we have conducted with young people giving their views, but I cannot give you a proper informed answer at this stage.

We do not wish to harm people in any way or destroy their lives. We just want people to take thier own driving a bit more seriously and recognize the dangers and risks to others that do arise, sometimes via a genuine accident and sometime as a result of plain stupidity ie driving drunk.

I will try and get back to you regarding the 'underage' issue, but I think that if a driver is licenced or unlicenced and on the road and driving dangerously, it is in the public interest for people to know regardles of their age.

Roadside Watch is much more focussed on vidoeing vehicles, and re3cording number plates rather than drivers. The owner of the vehicle is responsible for the vehicle, and in many states and must take responsibility.

Thanks once again for your feedback. We will try to do a better job getting our message out there. Just give us a little bit more time. We are working on it.

Regards Loraine

Really their time could be better used to reduce the suicide rate. Im sure thats much higher than the road toll.

Or getting people to exercise, as im sure the number of obesity related deaths is much higher. Car crashes are just so much more spectacular though.

Just did a drive by of L. McElligott's house, and what do I see? A lifted Hilux with clear tail lights, polished bars and 4 HUGE spot lights on the roof...

Rego TANGO dark blue/purple in colour

Do i hear a emissions report to qld transport :P

I almost signedup to give them a peice of my mind. But CBF. what a joke they are.

why dont they sit out the front of the cop shop. and video the cops doin burnouts as they are leavin. or video tape the thousands of morons who race up the lane thats ending on the M1 just to make it up a few more cars. which helps causes this gay peak hour traffic we are experiencing.

bah. lamers.

    • Oof. One of my mates has an R34 GT-R that he initially was a "I want to go twins for response and convenience" on his stock 2.6 with Kelford 272 cams, but his friends are pests and were always in his ear about their place being in the bin.   Eventually one of the 2860-5s decided to add it's own input and force his hand, so he conceded and went for a Pulsar 6262G ("G35 900") with T4 0.85 hotside.    Here's an overlay of the results, same cams, same stock bottom end, same boost, same fuel, just from a pretty tidy 2860-5 install to a Pulsar turbo on a 6boost maniifold on BP98.   Worth mentioning here, it may seem like a dead horse thing but the dyno plot doesn't tell the story of how much better it is to drive - transient response has completely changed the car, he used to have flat foot shifting to stop it having to wind up again on gear changes even at >7000rpm... now it builds boost faster than that even short shifting.   It's 100% transformed the car before you even consider how much better it holds on: Pulsar and Garrett aren't the same, but from our experience if you're just looking for a better drive and the ability to make the same or more power I think the divided G30 770 would probably be the smallest I'd go to.
    • Great work Duncan, any events local you will give it a test once all done?
    • Sweet, yeah hoping stock gears will hold up. May use the transbrake feature on hill climb starts so that will test it.
    • Yeah, the thread is only nearly 20 years old.
    • Been down in Tassie for 2 weeks (a cruise, not a race for once) but spent a little time on her when I got back. I worked out the injector settings in the PowerFC were not correct for nismo 555s, set those to 66% +10ms and added a little air at closed throttle, set the timing (approximately, because it has some weird non 15o cells around idle) and now she starts and idles properly. She purrs like a kitten (ignore the co2 alarm in the background, I did  ) 20250518_171052.mp4 Next step, off for run-in, tuning and alignment!
