Hey guys, i have never experienced this before, but i can realy smell my exhaust man, especialy when i have somene sitting in the passenger side and there window is down the whole car fills with it? I have never had this prob with other cars, i have a 3 inch from the cat back and rest is 2 and a 1/4 to the head. Is the muffler causing this or my cat? Its realy annoying and kinda puts me off having anyone i the car with me, it only creaps in from the passenger side...wierd.

Oh and how the hell can i fit in my new Boston 6's in the rears? My mate told me to lift my rear seats but i cant, im scarde il F2ck it up.I attempted and it wont budge.

Any help will be appreciated guys cheers.

you've got an exhaust leak mate. you're probably running rich too so it wont help with the fumes coming into the cabin. take it to where you got the exhaust done and they'll get it onto a hoist and check out where its coming from and seal it.

if you did it yourself then get your car up on some ramps, get a mate to turn the car on then check where the leak is coming from underneath. be careful not to breath in the fumes.

as for the speakers, get some spacers made up and a really short screw driver.

If you get a rag and hold it against the tailpipe you should be able to hear and feel the pressure. If you hear it leaking somewhere else then exhaust leak.

I'd also check the exhaust manifold for a failing gasket.

Finally, your cat could berooted or non existent and or you're picking up all the nice sulfides/sulfates(?) in the petrol (eggy smell?).

hey guys, thanks for the quick responses, i forgot to mention i had already replaced the pipe that connects to the muffler as they recomended re wedling is not a fix, it could reopen down the track, so i though i had cured the stench, it seemed to have restricted it abit because the smell wasnt that bad. I think it might be the cat, when you mean "gone" do you mean that the mesh is completely melted or warped as i have seen before in another car?

No eggy smell just a powerful exhaust smell, i never pick it up when im driving but when my mate had a spin in it i felt it realy bad from the passenger side, perhaps they didnt pick another leak near the cat? I guess il find out when i take it for check up.

I took it to Hi-Tech, i thought they wouldnt overlook this sort of things.

As for my seats il try to rench it with the screwdriver as recommended, does it pop up i dont wanna break anything, this car is mint condition in interior. Its bottom seat then the back right?

I've only ever smelt the eggy smell from cars with new cats.. Or new cars when they boot it in front. Usually Mitsubishi's for some reason.

No cat... No eggy smell just a strong exhaust smell that is very noticable. I have a few mates with no cat and driving behind them I can smell they have no cat. :S

For the exhaust side of things its defenately got a leak somewhere and like someonestolecc said, get someone to stuff a rag in the tip of the exhaust and let the car idle and you should hear where the leak is coming from.

To get to the rear pastral (spl?) shelf to take out the stock speakers you do the following steps:

1. The bottom of the seat is held down by two 12mm bolts, one either side, undo them and then lift the front of the seat up and it will slide out.

2. Once that is removed you will see that the remaining back of the seat is held in by two bolts near the bottom. Undo those then you will need to left the seat directly upsince it is held on a hook and it will left off.

3. The pastral shelf is just held in by clips, so undo the front ones that are visable and the others arent visable but when you left up they just come undone. If you have child restraint anchors on the back shelf you will need to undo those before you can take the shelf off.

*note, if the car looks like it has never been apart before (which is very rare anyway), things are going to be slightly harder to take off because all the clips and stuff will be tighter, but just ease it off and nothing will break.

Thanks for that dude, will do. an yea, its actualy so clean the speakers in the rear, if you check em from the boot they are original, the cones have turned to dust!My mechanics couldnt believe how original the car is motor wise. Thanks again everyone.

    • Yes correct. Also, I'd avoid applying it to soft paint (however I doubt you'll ever have to deal with it in practice). So any paint that hasn't fully hardened, could be a 1k paint that never fully hardened or it could be a 2k paint that was laid down thick and hasn't yet fully hardened.
    • Bit of an update to this one. Having some issues on the dyno that held us back (boost spiking) and I want to pass some info over you guys and see what you think is wrong with my setup. The current readout on this dyno is 462rwkw on a low reading dyno so keep in mind it is a real world 500rwkw setup on a hub dyno. Don't read into the power figure too much as a sign of the issue. The short and curly of it is: 2.8 Litre Racepace build RB25 NEO N/A Head with VCT (internally standard however ) Borgwarner EFR 8474  Turbosmart 50mm Straight Gate + Mac valve 6Boost Manifold 4" dump to full 4" exhaust (nil restrictions) Wastegate plumbed back in and all angles in the exhaust system are acceptable and not too sharp. GFB SV52 BOV in cooler piping  Turbosmart BOV in EFR Housing   The issue we are having is it comes onto full boost for example at 4000rpm and spikes to 24/25psi, before dropping down to 17psi before slowly rising back up to the target boost of 23psi. It was extremely uncontrollable and the tuner actually had to ramp in boost progrssively with each 1000rpm on each boost setting we selected to try and reduce the amount of spiking. Sometimes we would see a drop of 10psi from the peak at the beginning of the run, to the low, until it took the next 500-1000rpm to stabilise back up to the target boost. The tuner is pretty confident that the straight gate is just a poorly designed product and leaks too much boost upon cracking the gate open and theres no way to fix it other than going to a poppet valve. He's also confient theres no ignition breakdown or floating valves. The fueling is extremely stable as well. Turbo speed is somewhere around the 109,000rpm area. The spanner in the works for me is that prior to this Borgwarner and StraightGate, the car was tuned on -5 twins at a diferent tuner, and he also had issues controlling the boost with it spiking around the same rpm range, so to me this sounds like the same issue and it can't be anything on the turbo side as this was all changed and I think the behaviour is extremely similar, if not the same. We also removed the mac valve and did a run on wastegate pressure and it still spiked and had the same behaviour. My thoughts on possibilities are: Boost Leak VCT Cam Gear isn't reliably activating consistently - (On this however, we did a run with the VCT disabled and the boost still spiked) Turbosmart BOV is not handling the boost? However this seems unlikely to not be able to handle 20psi. I have a couple of logs that I can't make sense of if anybody knows how to read them and can obtain further logs of other parameters if they are not enough, happy to pay for anyones time. The dyno readout with the power figure is the most recent last week. The other picture is from two weeks prior to that where we couldn't break 400kw (we removed the cat), however the issue of the boost control persisted. @Lithium @Piggaz @burn4005 @GTSBoy @discopotato03 I've tagged those that were quite active in recent pages here, no disrespect to those that know turbos well but I missed tagging. Cheers
    • I recently purchased a 2018 Infiniti Q60, which has an SD card navigation map. I can see my system has options for real time traffic updates etc, and am wondering if there is something I can purchase to get this working? I can see there are at least updated maps for USA and Canada, but nothing for Australia. Surely Infiniti took changing road systems and city expansions into account when they decided to use an inbuilt navigation over Android Auto/Apple Car Play, or are we doomed to drive on streets that don't exist in the navigation system if you drive to a new area?
    • Luckily I didn't put in etch primer as I just found out it's not compatible with my body filler lol. Also just need to sand the panel anywhere between 150-400 grit so I'm in the clear there. It does say to not apply to soft old paint, I assume that means paint that is flaking, peeling, etc
