I've got a good friend who wants to throw money at his car, he's pretty much sorted for suspension, brakes, wheels, just looking at the motor really

he already has:

Power fc

clutch

Cam gears

and wants to keep the bottom end standard. with a possibility of cams

i suggested some 25/30's as he wants usable power like i have or gt-ss??

Injectors dont know which size??

fuel pump

dumps either hks or ??

wants around 300kw i guess.

Cheers

Andrew

Andrew...seriously....get him to change oil, water pumps...timing belt and timing gear bolts........

If he has done this and is confident in the motor...then 2530's /GT2860-5 ,HKS DUMPS ,AVCR Boost controller...Nismo fuel pump and regulator,Slitfire Coils, 700cc or higher injectors followed by good safe tune for street and he will be able to see 300AWKW's.

11.5 seconds 1/4 Mile and most important 4 sec...100km's.....

OK he also wants to go cams..Poncam's are the best......with cam gears aswell...

Total estimated cost for pump, water and oil belt and labour $1800

Total estimated cost for mods....including Poncams...... $13000

Does he have that sort of money?

If he does...get him to buy a Nismo crate engine...I think by memory..$13000

also, if he wants 300 at the wheels then go for the GT-SS kit which is going for $2500 on nengun at the moment which includes all gaskets and bolts. He already has a decent setup to make a good gain with the kit without changing fuelling or AFM requirements

Theres a set of x-force dumps going for $290 in the for sale section. I dunno if theyve sold already or not and are based on the HKS design (ie. split)

Well said.

If his power goals are ~300kw at the wheels, then IMHO you would want to select a turbo package that can not only reach that power figure, but also provide the best possible response for street.

Therefore, the answer is GT-SS's.

The HKS GT-SS / Tomei Type B Poncams / Sard 700'c combo has been proven time and time again to produce anywhere from 300-330awkw with relative ease (depending on the tune of course).

sorry to be off topic angus, was ur gtr at the drags on wensday the one with the wing remooved and like 10 or so spoked wheels?

hey yeah i had the wing removed with the bits still on the boot for the arc wing i have, but i think there are 5 or 6 spoke wheels..

OK nice thanks for the feedback guys.

oil pump

timing belt

hks dumps

nismo fuel pump and reg

550cc-700cc injectors

gt-ss turbos

looking at around $5200 without shipping from nengun. and without a water pump either.

say $6000 with shipping $600 for 10% if customs grabs it. $6600 around $2000 for labour

$8600 in total. hows that sound??

going to need cams waterpump by the looks of things

Edited by Angus Smart

You dont "need" cams. Cars have made 300rwkw without em

Also get the Nismo 555/550cc ones. Bolt in, and certainly not too big. You might even get there on stock injectors aswell.

300rwkw = GT-SS.

2530/2860's, are too big for what your friend wants.

And nismo crate motor? Do you even know what comes with it?

Seriously 700HP-GTR33, please stop misleading people with incorrect posts/advice on parts/quote/prices etc etc.

Most threads people end up correcting something that would otherwise mislead users

$2000 for labour is not going to cut it.........allow........$4000+ depending on troubles you might get into...and don't forget tune.

Seriously, what are you smoking?

Im sorry but the majority of your posts offering your 'technical knowledge' of late are full of baseless garbage.

Are you quoting random facts you read in the latest issue of Hot 4's magzine?

Do you have any idea what your talking about?

Nick......I have been there.....

Installation of Nismo fuel pump...and regulator.....$500...plus pump...Drop out tank....drain...install pump..and regulator.

Installation of Injectors....No mechanic will do it for less than $300 and obviously computer needs to be re-calibrated....$$$

Installation of Turbo's...dumps.....with engine in...$600+ ....that is if you are not fussy with installing new gaskets or renewing the oil and water lines.

Installation of new oil pump...lots of dramas so I think make sure you remove the motor out....extra $300 to get motor out.

Last time we needed to drop the sump and still could not get the Nismo item back in...pick up is lower and did not want to twist it getting it back in.....Oh make sure you put lock-tite on the screws inside...bad design...

He needs to renew his water pump...those things go quickly...so the new water pump + fitting...Say $300.

The car still has not been tuned yet...so allow..$500 for 4 to 5 hours on the dyno+ road tune...

So get off your high horse Nick...have you ever payed work-shop prices...?

The lucky thing is he has a friend that is a mechanic....make sure he knows what his doing...breaking washers or bolts on the removal of the old turbo's can set things back and cost more to fix....

Goes for you to ash.....I have been through all this and can even post receipts on work carried out by performance work-shops.

If You and Nick agree that for $2000 you can get Turbo's/Dumps/Injectors/Fuel pump/Regulator/Oil pump/Timing Belt

all fitted..........I believe you are mis-leading people.....let alone there has been no talk of a good tune and all the other minor details that will be need to be adressed.

Good luck with the mods mate..

Oh as far as the new crate motor..here is a link http://www.justjap.com/parts_nengines.htm

That is a long bare engine, and is a Nissan R33 GTR N1 engine, not a Nismo 'Crate' engine.

    • They usually get made by hand as part of any such swap.
    • Was planning on getting an R35 MAF and the adapter, should this be okay? Also any idea where I could get my hands on an intake pipe?
    • I mean yes, if you're starting from scratch on an unknown engine yes you don't need to be doing all kinds of math in the background but if you're doing relatively minor changes like AFM + injectors + boost up with some aftermarket turbos it takes quite a bit of math if you want to do something like maintain OEM fuel + timing tables but compressed and then a bit more load scale up top. I think I've spent too much time working on big engineering nightmares though so I'm a big fan of trying to constrain the scope of whatever work I'm doing as much as possible and trying to get it right before moving on. For example, a local owner just did the usual E85 + single turbo conversion to his R32 GTR and nearly burned his car to the ground doing some spirited driving up the local mountains. Turbine is unshielded and too close to the hood insulation. It's tough to balance "just get the project done" and "seemingly small details can cause massive setbacks I'm not willing to deal with".
    • No idea about Neil's steering wheel, but I have the same behaviour in the Stagea. I doubt it has ever been messed with so might be normal. Indicating to turn right at a roundabout and correcting even a little bit to the left to go around will cancel the indicator. Never considered it an issue other than it being a bit odd.
    • Does anyone know if this is off centered? Looks like it, when I indicate to go right, but turn my steering wheel slightly left it cancels (was always like that even before I started messing around with it) was wondering if anyone else has the same issue?
