Today I installed a DEFI BF series boost gauge and associated Link II computer in my R32 GTS-T.

I got it all working but then the readings it gave seem incorrect. I put it in purely for looks. My car has never been boosted amd is 100%, stock other than:

1. X-Force 3" Turbo Back Exhaust with high flowed cat ( i got is as an all in one exhaust )

2. Simota Pod filter

Thats it.

The problem is that the boost gauge said that my car is running at 0.82 Bar which is about 12psi....

Surely that reading cannot be right? Anyone have any suggestions or similar experiences?

Well that factory gauge I dont know what it is measured it, but it only ever goes so high, even if you did boost your car it cant go higher on the factory gauge.

I noticed on the way home tonight though, when factory gauge was on exactly " 0 " the one I installed was reading just over 0.1 bar or about 2 psi. So they dont seem to agree....

10psi stock r32

7psi stock r33

r32 has greater boost.

With an exhaust you will have boost leak so it may jump up to 11psi.

Im running stock boost, dyno shows it going up to 12 and then dropping down to 10~

mods are exhaust, smic and pod.

Cheers

Boost leak? so does that mean its not actually running 12psi? Cause my mate boosts his 32, his gauge reads 12.5 psi at that point and his car FLYS!!! Im confused and worried aobut my car now. I really think i need to take it on a dyno...

I was thinking maybe one day I would boost it so id have more power but if its actually running 12psi now then its pretty much at the limit now?....

where did u get that info from?

why is ther so much confusion about the stock boost of r32's? its freggin annoying, some pll say 7psi, some say 10psi...

has anyone got a link, a scan of a nissan magazine, something that says "the stock boost for the r32 is ___"????

cause id really like to know wat it ACTUALLY is stock

mate its 10psi. If you put your stock r32 onto a dyno it will show you 10psi.

10psi is the standard of R32 GTST's

Boost will slightly increase due to a free flowing exhaust and a new intercooler.

Ask a decent mechanic, he will say the same thing.

The RB20 one is stock at 10psi, and the RB25 one is stock at 7psi.

Again, What is boost leak specifically??

And if my car is running 12 psi that means I can't boost it cause it is already at its limit?? If so its a bit disapointing...

Would a high flowed r33 turbo running 12psi give much more power over what I have currently? (without front mount)

I started stock - 10psi

Xforce + front mount - no noticeable rise from 10psi

Dr Drift remap set 13psi - 13psi as it should be

r32line it sounds like you have a faulty gauge and with a stock ecu and no boost controller i don't know how your boost could actually be up at 12psi. simply getting a boost controller and putting an extra 2 psi through it may not give you very good gains. rylan (foznice) did dyno runs increasing the boost from 10psi onwards and found the power decreased at 12 due to a range of things which i can't remember. what i gather is that +boost without tuning to the ecu is not as effective as a full tune, obviously. go get a remap with sam, you shouldn't have trouble getting 150kw+ with 12 or 13psi. you'll need a few supporting mods though - fuel and cooling.

I suggest a thick aftermarket side mount cooler. they're good for many reasons.

ps. watch the road when on full boost :)

Yeah thats what i thought. Is there any way to reliably measure boost. Like if i was getting it dynoed/tuned can they connect something to the engine bay and get a reading of boost? Surely there is....
