Robbo,

On the topic of the Zoom mag review of intercoolers or most things:

You know a statistically valid test involves a sample of 30 or greater.

They show a 7psi drop. I see a 2psi drop on mine.

At the end of the day what does it all mean?

A larger or even overly large FMIC will yeild a greater peak power than the stocker. However the time it takes for the same air volume to travel throught the FMIC is longer than the stock unit. Flow time is an enemy as much as lower horsepower flow is.

If you want to run a low 13 the standard intercooler does not present a problem.

I would rather pay a bit more money and get a decent FMIC or a second hand one. I don't think there's much point in upgrading to a slightly larger side mounter cooler, cos that is going to restrict u in the long run anyway. You could probably run 1-2psi higher? How much more power is that going to achieve? 5kW@engine at most???

rev, you've got some excellent results out of the stock intercooler, but I can't help but think you'd get that 12 with a FMIC. My car was a totally different drive when I put it on. Unless my stock IC was unusually more restrictive than most, I'm sure you'd experience the same thing.

Don't worry about the 12 now. It's in the bag.

My last effort of 13.3 was with only 4500rpm of useable rev range.

Remember I have done this with 205's, a much bigger hurdle than the power I do or don't have.
