Think My Motor Has Let Go

Hi guys something has let go in my gtr.Sounds like it was a very loud tapping noise comming from the head,Thought it may have broken a cam took the covers off everything looks ok.What can i do to tell if it's the bottom end.

u could change your oil and see if theres little bits of engine floating in it

You wouldn't beleive it i changed the oil about an hour before it happened.will drop it and have a look.

Dropped the oil and found some small shavings of metal.Would this be big end bearing has spun?

either way, you've done damage, only way to know for sur eis to strip down.

if you keep driving it, you'll only do further damage

best thing to do is a comp test.

it be a bearing most likely little end bearing fail, Associated with "Death Knock" you can drive it it just means your time will be very short lived and damage will be worse if you do. have fun

It will be big end and most likely number 6. Time for a rebuild.

What is 'death knock' and 'death rattle' - like when specifically would they occur and sounds etc? Mainly looking for ways to pin point if its occuring etc.

What is the beast way to determine an engine's health? I would assume just a comp test and a leak down test? Do they suffice? Or should there be other things to look at/do?

compression and leakdown test is fine for determining an engines health. You will know if you have got a problem mate you cant miss an engine that has done a bearing.

wat about a loud rattly noise in the top end? louder as you rev and car still drives fine

nah this this was f**ked no drivin anywhere, though yes usually we have seen cars (mates workshop) that rattley get louder as it drives and drives ok. but just means more damage at the end of the day
