Hello there , :P

Im new to this skyline forumn and I was wondering if you all can help me with the questions that I have and see if you can help me

We are looking into buying a Nissan Steagea Wagon, the three cars below are the ones we are looking at.. It looks great, we are after a family car but with performance and we been looking for a bit, we finally think we have found that car we are after, which Is what has led me here to this site.. I know they look lovely, they are nice to drive , had a test drive of one this morning.. I know that they are a solid car.. smile.gif

Nissan steagea wagon, auto. tripmatic2001 NISSAN STAGEA RS4 AWD that has 34,000kms for $21990, 6 cylinder Petrol Intercooled Turbo 2.5 NEOL (2498cc

OR 2000 NISSAN STAGEA RS4- 4wd 37,000kms, for 21,990,6 cylinder Petrol Intercooled Turbo 2.5 NEOL (2498cc)

Or a 1999 NISSAN STAGEA RS4 for $18,990 , 36,000 kms on it,6 cylinder Petrol Intercooled Turbo 2.5L (2498cc) , and its 4WD

Okay those are three cars we are looking at, we will get one of them or something similar in the next few months, we are looking at it as a family car, very lovely car we drove one today and we are happy with the performance the smooth drive etc not to mention the space it has..smile.gif .. and we are in Queensland and we are very much inlove with the car.

So my question to you is that right amount of money for those cars??

what else can you tell me about them? Which is better to get the AWD or the 4WD?

and is it true that the facelift 98+ is better to get, and also what insurance companies will help you insure these lovely cars?

Thank you in advance :sorcerer:

The chances are that the odo reading of all 3 of those cars have been severely messed with. Seriously, a 7-9 year old car that has travelled less than 40 000kms?

98+ will have a little more power (206kw vs 172kw), slightly better fuel economy and (should have) a triptronic auto so if that floats your boat then go for it.

As for the money, look around at everything else on offer and that will be the best way to judge it, but if you are likely to want to mod it at all, you would be a lot better off buying one like Andy's (plus, the manual version is a lot more rare and expensive)

Andy^^ Note free plug!

EGA4IT has a rare manual with lots of extra fruit (ie. R33 GTR running gear, autos run lighter skyline bits ) including powerfc, new clutch and other neat gear for a tiny bit more money.

have a good look on the forums here before committing to buying one.

They look like normal Car Yard prices for a series 2. But I tend to agree about the km's being too low for a car that is between 6 and 9 years old going from '98 to '01. Thats only on average about 4000km's per year and is pretty hard to believe even for Japan.

But don't let that bother you, when looking at buying an imported car no matter what it is its probably not a good idea to judge a car by the km's on the clock. For eg. Early last year I got my '97 series 1 in alsmost show room condition and it had 122,000kms on it. Barley had a nick in the paint, interior was mint and not a mechanical fault on the car. (And will look like that again soon when it gets a respray, damn uninsured drivers :( ). While I was looking I went to a few dealers and looked at another '97 series 1 with a "claimed" 35000kms on the clock. Come on a 9 year old car with about 2 years worth of k's. The interior was shocking, heaps of wear and tear and that was before I looked over the rest of the car. So if they were real then it had a bloody hard life.

What I'm saying is judge the car on the overall condition from the inside out not by whats on the clock. Plus I got all the books from Japan and the Australian owner too, so I knew the history of the car. I would rather buy a 150,000kms car thats got a good serivce history and looks mint than a 40,000kms car thats had a hard life just becuase it looks better on paper.

And yeah look around on the forums first, I got mine from an old forum member and couldn't have been happier. The only thing I have had to do to the car is replace the water pump and the timing belt. Other than that just basic servicing is all that its needed so far and I'm pushing 155,000kms now.

And yeah if a manual sounds like your thing then I would look at EGA4IT's car too. Becuase you will want to start modding when you buy no matter what you tell yourself and cars don't come much more complete than his example.

Both wolverine and I can vouch that Andy (EGA41T)'s car is in excellent condition and a beautiful car - he's already done some mods to it to make it that little bit nicer than a standard car, and as wolverine mentioned, the running gear (gearbox, drive shafts, suspension, etc.) in a factory-spec'd manual Stagea is of higher quality than that in the auto. Mine is a series 1 that's been converted to manual (they only came out in auto in the series 1, unless you choose to spend more and buy the 260RS), and if you REALLY want me to, I can try and meet up with Andy or wolverine one day to compare a factory manual to one converted to manual...

As already mentioned, don't take too much notice of the distance travelled on the odometer, instead have a good look at the condition of the car in detail - things like panel gaps, interior condition, paint runs, engine oil condition, etc. say so much more about a car than how many kays the car apparently has...

Have a look through the Buyer's Guide for the Stagea, and also through the Buyer's Guide for the Skylines (seeing as they share so many components), and feel free to ask questions if there's something you can't figure out yourself - we're all here to help! :sorcerer:

Ask yourself these questions :

1. Do you want a later dodel stagea or an older one. Taking into consideration of the RB25 and the rRB 25 Neo? Neo got a little bit more pwoer and better fuel consumption. Of course neo one is a bit more expensive.

2. Do you plan to mod the car? If you do do you want to mod the wagon with the parts you wanted? Meaning you want to set it up yourself instead of buying a car already being moded? Another thing to take into consideration is when you buy the car already moded (eg. exhaust, suspension, air intake ETC) you will be in a bit of hassles when getting it compliance. Meaning you will need to revert it back o the original parts and it will cost you more money during compliance.. unless you buy a stock std wagon like me no problems during comliace except for my front brake pads in my case.

Really its up to you. What do you want and whats your budget? Do you allow for unforseen costs? Like extra $$ put aside for just incase? Like me it costme extra $500 for the compliance.

Also for the mileage on the car, dont take it into account. High probability that the ODO reading has been tampered with. Too low for a car at its age. unless you are really lucky to get a genuine low mileage car. Think about it. Do you dare to risk it?

If you want a wagon thats already moded get the car loaclly thats already modded. let us know if you need anything else. Hope this helps. Pointing in the right direction.

newbie101 I was thinking the same thing about the kms, I actually cant drive a Manual but Im actually after an Auto, But I like the ones with the tipomatic in them..

My hubby likes the earlier models I think the 97 model infact as it doesnt have the lights in the grille

I would like to buy a stock standard wagon wiht no mods . the only thing I would like to do to it it lower it alittle and put an alarm system on it and a exhaust system.. and a stereo system..

Mr_RS4 we went and saw a 97 stagea i think it had close to 53000 kma on it for 16,000 again from a dealership.. the cars I mentioned were clean as all hell inside and out.. i was taken back abit by the kms as well.. Thank you for your help Its been a great help

i just bought a stagea, and was actually looking for a series 2.

all were priced in the range of 18,000-20,000. (dealer prices) and one privatly wanted 20k also

i ended up buying an S1 with full leather and dual sunroofs for 16.3k. 1 owner vehicle in jap, i am now the second owner here in oz. has all import papers etc.

you can usually look at the exterior/interior to justify the kms of the vechicle.

mine has "71,000" on the clock, and i believe it, the interior is immac. and overall the car is clean and it was a garaged vehicle.

its up to you, but i couldnt justfy ~4k thereabouts for the exact same car bar a few differences in the motor/gearbox and styling.

like your partner, i didnt like the fog lights in the grille.

goodluck with the purchase. once you buy one, you will never look back!

cheers

jarryd.

Considering that your husband may prefer the Series 1 model, I would suggest considering looking at private sales. About 5 months ago I got my Series 1 with some cosmetic issues for $10,000 from a private seller. I have noticed that more Series 1 stageas are falling into this price range now. It seems that some of them aren't cosmetically compromised like mine either. A 10-11k car would leave a lot of cash in the bank.

Perhaps my experience with children is different, but an immaculate car can quickly turn into an ordinary one with a few kids around.

Yeah I also prefer the series 1 look. A lot of us seem to now. But I would prefer the series 2 running gear. Those prices I spoke about were based over a year ago too. If your husband prefers the series 1 look and you can only drive an auto maybe its a better idea to look at a series 1 as it would save you a fair wack of cash (espically when buying from a dealer) which could be spent on things like lowering, wheels, exhaust and an alarm. And if your going to be having kids in the car then a leather interior isn't such a bad idea either as it would be easier to clean than the cloth trim and looks better imo. And they are easy to find in series 1's too.

As for repairs they aren't really any more expensive than your average car. There a quite a few mechanical parts that can be shard with the R33 skyline range and then there are also quite a few stagea specific parts as well. But with most importers stocking stagea half cuts and the like now parts won't be expensive or hard to find. Also your local Nissan dealer should be able to help out a lot too not to mention being able to import your own parts from Japan using the Yahoo autction and Slidewize imports on this site. I have had mine for about 18 months now and its been great and it does get put through the paces from time to time. As long as you keep the servicing up every 5000kms (oil and filter changes etc.) then it will look after you for a long time.

now .. I can say I dont know ANY of these people selling their stageas ( I Am very new to the club ) but I know that buying cars from forum members is usually a good idea fora few resons

a) the cars are usually serviced very well

b) you can ask the sellers questions , and they will be honest ( most of the time ) as they dont want to BS anyone in the club.

c) some of the mods you might want done, could have already been done by the previous owner hence saying you $$ and time!

Or .. the other alternative is .. if you have the $$$ ready , and currently have transport , and can wait a few months , why not think about importing one? In Perth we saw a car very similar to the one we are importing and not a whole lot was different on the 2 cars other than the $10000 price difference!

Why not look at a few of the members cars listed, they all seem to be in your price range!

Thank you guys, maybe the series one is the way to go just by what Im reading here. and I would like to spend a bit less than 18000 more i can add to the car..

MR RS4 thanks your a gem that is one thing I really has helped :sorcerer:

JVP thank you I think you have opened my eyes up thanks now if I can find a decent lovely one for that price Id be happy.. :sorcerer: ..

Ashlogan, having kids can be messy in my case I have the one 7 year old who actuallyis quite clean & tidy kid ..

the only thing that has worried me is the cost of the insurance I got quoted 1600 for full comprehensive for a 99 stagea if i went out and brought a series 2 stagea? the insurance has put me off for that stagea..

It would make the insurance cheaper if the car was at a lower price?

Guys seriously have been a great help and I think i better start looking at the series one seems the dollars would be better spent :sorcerer: ..

I went looking for the 97 models OMG talk about price lash in private sellers its really making me lean to that the money I have in my pocket the better thanks guys

im 22, and it costs me $926 a year full comprehensive.

and that is unlimited mods. only downfall is that you cant pay by month. only quarterly, half yearly or yearly.

i went thru: www.vigilins.com.au

hope that helps.

Thank you guys, maybe the series one is the way to go just by what Im reading here. and I would like to spend a bit less than 18000 more i can add to the car..

hi joshsmum00, just wondering if you tried negotiating a price, i'm pretty sure you could get a better deal, and out of interest, were the cars all at the same yard and is it on the goldcoast (burleighheads)

ps is warranty included, for what its worth (can sometimes come in handy)

joshsmum00,

I have been looking for a stock 99/00 model S2 Neo Stagea for a couple of weeks now for reasons pretty much the same with all, practical and powerful. With a family of 2.5 now and possibly another next year, i don't think there's anything else that compares.

From research, a S2 RS4 can be had from dealers between $18k-$20k in Vic and NSW, with 1-3yrs warranty. There are a couple in Syd for $16.5k, private seller, both around the 50,000km mark. Another in Melb with 80+kms has been offered to me at $17k.

I'm currently sorting out my finance so I can start looking seriously for one next week. My budget will be $17k.

An insurance broker has just quoted me $650 for full comprehensive (32 with no accident history, 60% ncb) $500 excess for accident and theft. Just Cars quoted me $1074 with $1500 excess! Both insured for $16900.

Hope that helps.

I also agree with buying from this forums as most would be enthusiast and have looked after their Stageas very well.
