Zilch*
Hi guys I recently purchased a oil cooler kit from xxxxx, wanting a 19 row cooler for my R33. It finally arrives and it's a 10 row cooler. How much worse is this going to be for my car? Can I still use it? It'd take ages to send back to Japan and recieve a new one that is 19 row. The car is a series 1 GTS-T running a garret 3071R and all supporting mods. Any insights on this problem would be great thanks guys. Cheers Steve Edited April 26, 2007 by Zilch* Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/166157-oil-cooler-question/ Share on other sites
BAMR33
Well an oil cooler has got to be better than no oil cooler. Just an idea don't list the traders name when complaining, does nothing for no one. Zilch*
Fair call, tho I wasn't really complaining, I'm just curious if I can still use it and have it actually be effective or if I do indeed need to buy another one but I've taken out the name of the company now for arguments sake. humz
in my (non credible) opinion i dont think the standard oil pump can support an oil cooler, so i think when you say "an oil cooler is better than no oil cooler" that may need to be revieved. on the other hand if you have an n1 oil pump thats a diferant story. Zilch*
I am fairly certain the standard oil pump can support a cooler but I have a GTR oil pump anyway Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/166157-oil-cooler-question/#findComment-3077450 Share on other sites

Cheers Steve It depends on your car, your engine setup, how often you punish/trackday your car etc. I use a Trust 10 row kit on my GTR producing 500awhp and its fine. evil_weevil
Steve, Any price difference or is it the same? How much all together delivered? I need one! But I'll be using standard turbo - I just dont want to punish the car too much at the track Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/166157-oil-cooler-question/#findComment-3077508 Share on other sites

Zilch*
Blitz, thanks mate for the info, that's what I needed to know, I've actually gone and decided to get just the oil cooler core from justjap in 19 row for $100 and just cut my losses on the other one, so if you want a spare... Chris, pm me and I'll tell you who NOT to buy it from incase it happens to you as well, ordering the right one and receiving something smaller LOL. To answer your question a oil cooler and filter relocation kit cost me $380 delivered. tjandriesen
Unless you are doing the work yourself the pricy part of an oil cooler is getting it installed. I'm running a 19 row from Just Jap and it cost a fair bit to get it put in. Awesome job and I'll post up pics in the DIY thread. I'm running a stock (GTR) oil pump and had it out on the track for the first time Wed. It oil temp was barely over street driving levels. To answer your question a oil cooler and filter relocation kit cost me $380 delivered. if the cooler you have now is the trust one, i personally would not be swapping it for a just jap one. either just use your 10row one, or ask for the 19row to be sent and send the 10row back. Zilch*
The cooler I have now is not a Trust one as far as I know, it's a universal one from a well known trader on here(not slide) We are doing the installation ourselves and so I'm not worried about costs in that regard, so yeah I might just buy a universal 19 row core. Thanks for all the info and suggestions guys. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/166157-oil-cooler-question/#findComment-3078776 Share on other sites

BigMonkey
Hey guys.. sorry for veering the discussion a bit off topic but i was after a bit of help. the picture above shows what i have sitting in the garage ready to go into a r32 gts-t running a 2871r w/ upgraded fuel pump and necessary mods.. I was under the impression that when relocating your oil filter you needed a sandwich place as well as a relocation plate (which your oil filter will eventually plug into). I have been provided with the sandwich plate.. now is this just a spacer which allows for sender units and braided hoses (pictured above) to be installed? essentially keeping the oil filter in the same location (give or take 15mm)..? or am i missing a chunk of metal? sorry if the question sounds stupid but I am a noobie.. cheers, tushar Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/166157-oil-cooler-question/#findComment-3365176 Share on other sites
infamous_t
BigMonkey, the setup you have doesn't look like it relocates the oil filter(other than 15mm away from the block), just adds the cooler. Not all kits relocate the oil filter. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/166157-oil-cooler-question/#findComment-3365530 Share on other sites
