Just got Pedders to do a 28 point check on my car and the results came back all good apart from the front and rear bushses being perished as well as the radius bushes being perished and weeping.

Now, the parts they quoted me all up are $206 which I think is fairly reasonable, however, for the labour which he said they would have the car half of a day wanted to charge me $336! :ninja:

Now, should I do this work myself and save a bit of cash (I don't mind doing a bit of work on my car) or just bit the bullet and pay for them to do it?

Dont know if this effects you but went to the local pedders trying to source tie rod ends for the HICAS rack in the rear and asked about their drive on shock tester thingo guy said it probly wouldnt be accurate enought for the coilovers in a skyline :ninja:

I went to pedders once due to a problem with my front shock. They quoted $1k worth of stuff to repair, most of the costs were quite high.

Found out what was wrong with it and went to a guy that does porches and a few old race cars, he looked over everything and said all the bushes they said were perished were fine (he got me under there and showed me examples), changed the split steering boot for $10 in about 20mins and tightened the bolt that had come loose causing my shock to my around. All up was $60 with a wheel alignment.

I'd get a second opinion just for laughs, doesn't cost much to get a safety check. A lot of the bushes are a c**t to replace so I'd probably pay someone, just get a few different quotes first as the big names generally charge a lot more.

they would have found stuff that isnt really wrong if anything

Thats it, they will generally mark stuff as needing replacing when it could definitely last a lot longer. Some of the things were questionable though when I had an inspection, on trying to diagnose my susp problem at home we took the wheel off and have the ball joints a good tug and play with and got no movement yet they said they needed replacing.

i'd try and do the work yourself. i got quoted $800clams for Bridgestone to install my coilovers because "coilovers are very tricky to install on your model skyline (S1 R33), it will take us more then a day"

i installed them in 4hours. it took that long cause i hadnt done suspension stuff b4, but there tuned and im happy to have saved the money.

get it checked out by a few mechanics and find out what you'll need to do, and do it ;)

good luck

Aif

I've gone to peders before just for laughs and giggles with my daily driver. I'm not saying their all bad, but of course, i'm sure quality will vary.

It was funny how they said that every bush under the car was perished. They really weren't!

they then put it onto the orgasmatron, and said that the shocks were a bit worn - I could have told them that the shocks were worn.
