Ok so here are some notes from me loosing my licence

For me life was cool work was busy and so on but i was on the good behaviour plan as I ran out of points....

and then bam - clocked doing XYZ in a ABC zone

which was my own fault sure - but it sucked!!!!!

POW RIGHT IN THE KISSER (Family guy style)

6 month loss of licence as I was on the good behaviour 12 month plan

After thinking about my experience and what went on - quite a lot has changed - I thought id write up some notes.

For those who are near their points or think they are ok you should read on and understand what ive gone through.

I've written this articile to try and educate some of you - so you undestand it and why - make sure you read it in full

I last drove my skyline on January 22nd. I havent driven it illegally as theres a 4k fine and jail if you get caught - so no thanks.

A lot of un-expected things change when you loose it - so read on and be careful.

When i lost mine i never gave away points - so if you are near either give them to friends/family or start behaving!!!!!!

1) How bad is it ?

Ok its like being 17 again. You have to keep asking people for a lift or working out how to get home.

It's pretty frustrating and youll find yourself sometimes skipping event or various functions cos sometimes its too hard to get there and home etc.

Depression city is on the trams and trains. Probablyt the best things is star signs in the MX and reading it - otherwise it sucks!!!!!!

2) But you've saved lots of $$$$

Ok yes I have saved some $$$ in the process but I would rather pay $5k to get my licence back quicker.

The thing that sucks the most is you can't do whatever you want, whenever. You have to rely on someone else or a train/tram etc.

3) But you dont have to drive in peak hour!!!!!!

Ok you think driving in peak hour is bad? Try catching a tram to flinders st only to have some homless bum hit on your gf (not my gf, some random couple had this homeless guy try and be dodgy) cos he is stupid.

And then to top it off when you are near flinders the tram stacks into two cars and writes itself off so you have to walk.

Then to make things even better you miss the train by 2 minutes so you have to wait 21 minutes for another one.

4) You get your licence back with full points though?

No, this is not true. When you loose your licence you loose any pending points.

So the points still count. For me I was on the good behaviour and lost it, so i lost the points and my licence.

When I get it back I am down 3 points from the previous offence that tipped me over.

5) Wow your insurance must suck now!!!!

Well actually I spoke to justcars, and no insurance/premium change - go figure eh????

I removed my ex girlfriend, added in some more mods, and added that I lost my licence and no premium change.

6) Is the skyline ok? - Why didnt you sell it ?

After 6 months of very little driving its fine.

I got the battery replaced as it was busted bigtime and had been flattened heaps.

Over and over i flattened it a few times so yeah it didnt last long (2 days tops).

The auto elec dude said when u reconnect the battery if the earth terminal archs lots there lots of battery drain.

After some investigation I found my TV was always on standby so i cut that out and now its fine. Lasts easily a week.

Each week I let it idle via the turbo timer for approx 2 minutes. My dad has been driving it a bit too to keep the fluids alive etc.

So in summary, keep it running and keep it real. There's no need to sell it or have a hissy fit. I sat in my 33 the other week with the stereo cranked and cleaned it out. It was the best feeling ever. I can't wait to get it back and go nuts (with in the law)

I didnt sell it cos i love the car and ive worked my ass for it.

The car is mine and i own it outright. Ive paid it off and its mine.

Nothing makes me happier than my skyline

7) But you can go out any night and drink

Ok this is probably the worst part. I didnt fall victim to this but I know lots of friends who have.

They loose their licence for whatever reason and drink every night cos they dont have to drive.

This is a bad idea and you should not do it. Be careful on this one.

8) So what now?????

Each day I count down till i get my licence back. I miss my skyline every day of my life.

The day I get it back i am going to drive sensibly but have fun if that makes sense.

So it doesnt only affect you - it affects your peers, friends, partners, family etc (my family cant wait for me to get it back).

Just think about the people around you before you go "its fine man" cos it might not be.

Also - its embarrassing - most people assuming you loose it from drink driving and think your an alcoholic

9) Moving forward...

Ok moving forward I get it back in 2 weeks.

You get it back the day you loose it. You recieve a letter stating you loose it XX day at midnidnight.

So if you loose it for 6 months you get it back 6 months later on the same day at midnight.

When you loose it , vicroads make you send your licence card into them and they post it back out to you a week before you get it back.

If you refuse or try and be a hero they send out the local municipality sherriff to obtain your licence from you - so I suggest you behave on this part.

Once your licence is back you go back to normal conditions and normal points.

You dont go back to P's unless otherwise stated.

If you loose it for drink driving however

Then you go back to P's for 3 years. I have a friend who fell under this category and he is on P's for the next 3 years.

So be careful, be a lert, use the crossin', don't be a stupid head,. dont drink and drive and, be safe instead.

There is nothing worse than loosing your licence. I cannot stress this enough.

Think about not driving your Skyline for a week, then multiply that by 10 billion

lol nice write up

i couldnt agree with u more!

i too lost it for 6 months, but coz i lost it within 12 months of driving, i now have passenger restrictions for 1 year! sux donkey balls but a good excuse to rip the rear seats out and put a full cage

how do you get that countdown thing for msn???

lost mine exactly 3 weeks ago and haven't driven since, i've saved enough money to get me a new mobile phone. every cent of that money would've gone in fuel only!

but meh i'd give up the phone and whatever else just to be able to drive again, i'm going crazy already!!!! ;)

oh well public transport for the next 5 months or so.

i had no respect for my license and now i'm getting f**ked over for it, asking people for lifts, not being able to go for drives etc

shit happens ;)

oh and when i get it back i'll already be 5 points down. which means i'll probably get the options letter again! right after i get the license back! :P

Good sharing of experiences bro - I am due to go to court in a couple of weeks and for sure I will lose my license - can you, if it's ok, tell us a bit more about how the court proceeding went - did you get fined? And legal bearing on you - record etc? You said you'll get a criminal record - I don't think this is the case, it would be a traffic-related conviction as you did not steal, hurt anyone physically nor caused bodily / mental injuries to anyone... hence, what was the charge and what did you get done for?

Many thanks in advance - losing my license is fair enough, a fine is also fair enough - but a criminal record is a no no for me as my job depends on this.

Cheers,

    • Following from this in a related by not closely-related sense... Because I was buying a bunch of other GKTech stuff, I got some rear subframe collars. The history that leads up to this is: 25+ years ago the car arrived into the country with stock subframe bushes. At some point shortly thereafter I added Whiteline pineapple rings, set up neutral, and it improved the rear end behaviour. Well, it is my vague memory that I was happier with it with them in. Less axle tramp on launches, generally better, etc etc. ~2012 it got a new non-HICAS subframe with new stock bushes. No pineapple rings. I reckon that ever since then I've been dissatisfied with the axle tramp. Recently I've been f**king around a lot with all aspects of the suspension. One contemplation has been to relocate the rear lower control arm front mount points (and do the other things needed to make that work) to improve longitudinal rear grip by getting rid of some of the stupid anti-squat that Nissan ladled into the R32. But.... before doing that I thought I'd put some collars in. And.... The collars are good. The rear sounds a little bit different, but there has been no significant increase in NVH coming up into the body. In terms of rear behaviour - expansion joints on long sweeping elevated freeway ramps that would sometimes cause the rear to jiggle around a bit, no longer seem to do so. It appears that jamming chunks of metal into the gaps in the rubber so they can't move much is a really good thing. And the launch behaviour and general forward traction situation seems to be greatly improved too. It's impossible to be really sure, because the tyres are completely shagged - they are freakishly willing to let go right now. But as an A-B test with the same tyres it certainly seems to grip up a lot better. Highly recommended to anyone who still has stock bushes.
    • Bit off topic maybe but has anyone had a crack at one of those aftermarket electric compressors ? Bit of a search came up with one put out by Speedy Air Spares. Looks interesting and looks as if you'd have to run a big arse alternator. Found this out after the fact as my air con compressor packed it in and soon after my alternator ! !
    • Yes. Needs new ports. Usually just achieved by screwing an adapter onto them. Be aware that any AC compressor that hasn't been used in a long time will very likely have dried out seals and will not hold gas. Oh, and obviously you will require a new receiver-dryer also.
    • Can you covert an R32's AC from r12 to r134 if the compressor/hoses etc are still all good? Pretty sure on my car the AC was degassed when it was imported  to remove the naughty r12 and save the ozone layer, and the fancy climate control system just blew air around. Was happy to drive the car with windows down back then, but now I am old and need to be kept cool
    • Just to circle back here, I've sold my automatic trans to another Stagea owner in OH.
