hey guys

yeah mark looks like that we he is driving he has a really relaxed driving style, me on the other hand look like i am ringing it's neck and going slower for it.it's all about keeping very high speed, if you have a look where he picks 5th on the front straight you'll know how quick he is going as we change fourth to fifth at at about 220 kph so around 245kph/250 on the front straight.

also need to remember it's a low 10 sec car and you need to respect the throttle or it bites! :)

cheers russ

fatz will call Mark weak for not going flat through turn 1 :P

blacksx yes lots more in yourcar andalloy block and good areo S15's have plnty of potential and under estimated. Happy to help come visit or call me and corner weigh will help as well as camber, caster and toe changes will help a lot I suspect.

Giant I just watched the vid and looks awesome and I noticed you are in lower gears than me in a few places same as Bozo so looks like I need to rev the love boat more. Do you have a better quality copy for our site and I will make sure this one makes it on the site???

Also I noticed down the straight you go to fourth way earlier than me and even change to fifth. Is your PPG box different gearing to factory or maybe more power or both?

The next circuit Battle is on Thursday 24th May at Wakey.

mark also noticed we are hitting fifth a lot earlier than we use to, do you know what speed you were on the front straight as marks speed was up alot from other visits there, some of it is tyres( i think ) we had a lot more grip than we normally do as we were running mediums and normally we run hards & 4wd and alignment is spot on at the moment.

would be quicker if the car had firmer suspension and swaybars but it is all a compromise with doing motorkhanas and circuits in the rain and soforth.

i will get a copy to you with much better quality john.

cheers russ

p.s i reckon a race around the creek would be awsome against your car

Dam straight!!!!!!!! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar poooofs!

When is the auto salon drinking comp?

They should give you points for driving and points for your karaoke performance after 400 beers

Then ill be in it!

lol @ karaoke... ah memories

lol @ karaoke... ah memories

fatz either that or drinking and racing you would beat me that is for sure. Btu something we will never know right??

Giant the mroe Ithink about itthe more I realise and I have to say a big well done. Beat me at my home track. Yes Eastern Creek would be good, zed stretch it slegs and give that boost button a big go and my car is bound to be faster as set up so well now. But then hey yours is too.

Re speed down the straight I don't know and many often ask. I don't have a speed sensor in gearbox, as a customer needed one a while back and I figured I needed to help him out and could use the extra coin, and never bothered to replace it. Is your gearbox different gears and is it a 5 or 6 speed??? Rev limit is 8,000rpm for circuit and must be close to in in forth. I have R200 GTR diff in the zed same as your car but gear box must be different gears?

Just watched the lap. Awesome job! That is a seriously quick car!

Can you give us a bit of a run down on whats been done to it. I know it has AP CP5555 on 365mm front rotors, rears? PPG 5 spd box. Still Tein Super Street, N1 turbos? Is it still basically std weight?

hi Roy

i will try and tell you what we have found really important and our mods.

power is approx 380 to 400 kw's @all four depending on weather and temp.

so yep, still 2.6 bore size, 270 cams tomei, adj cam gears, cleaned up cylinder head ports, n1 valve springs,cp pistons, tomei rods, n1 oil pump with reinmax gears(also use tomei oil pump previously), hi octane racing large sump (will be going to a hi octane racing 4 stage dry sump in a month or so) standard exhaust and intake manifolds, are intercooler, n1 garret equivelant turbo's, greddy intake boost pipes, apexi airfilters, autronic ecu and cdi ignition, gonzo exhaust, vp109 fuel( good for 30kw's and much safer than pump fuel), tilton brake pedal box, australian spec tein suspension, bosch fuel pumps, advan suge tank, npc clutch ( i swear by it!!), carbon tailshaft. block and crankshaft are standard, acl race bearings, 25 row oil cooler, standard blow off valves. we also run a water sprayer for the radiator and oil cooler for longer circuit runs.

we have tried hard to make the power come on hard down low in the rev range , which makes it easier to drive, we tried aftermarket extractors and the car made more power but we lost over 500 rpm before boost would come on so we went back to standard manifolds, adjust cams to get power as early as possible, car has over 300 kw's at 3500 all the way to rev cut, rev cut we have lowered to 7800 till we get a dry sump.

the other thing we have spent a lot of time on is the 4wd system and wheel alignment setup, nearly all r32 gtr 4wd drive systems we have looked at including our car when we got it, do not function as they should. wheel alignments also have been a real issue. we have had a lot of trouble get alinment shops to align to the spec you ask for and ahen checked they are way out!! we now do all our wheel alignments by string line and have had far better results.

the car will be coming off the road in two months(after nsw dutton and maryborough sprints) for a full rebuild, dry sump if not before) , side exit exhuast for events that allow it, chromoly strut to strut cage, try to lighten it some, total repaint, stack dash , hopefully carbon doors, bigger swaybars & a few other changes.

hope this helps if you want to anything specific just ask

cheers russ

Thanks for that.

LOl...i have a few questions

... we tried aftermarket extractors and the car made more power but we lost over 500 rpm before boost would come on so we went back to standard manifolds,

Interesting that you found boost come on later...but did you actully look at the power and torque curves? Discussing it with SR20 owners many have found the same thing, but when i ask them to post up the power and torque curves they actually show no loss, in some cases they show an improvement. So forgetting what boost is doing the manifold is actually making more torque and power. So combined with the fact that "boost isnt coming on until 500rpm later" you are actually making more power/torque at less boost. This is all SR20 specific but they effectively make it a more effecient through the mid range and get the top end bang from the manifolds.

So just some thoughts on what i have witnessed of SR owners falling for the "makes it laggier" Sometimes they arent looking at the big picture stuff. LOL then again, i could be miles off as i think most the serious GTRs down here use std manifolds so doubt so mnay would be missing a good thing :bunny:

... chromoly strut to strut cage...

Is that legal? I thought (maybe should check) that the cage cannot penetrate the front firewall. Once upon a time they were able to , and if your car got the log book with it then you are ok. But these days they are not permitted. And i think the same goes for the rear with the cage only able to pick up the inner guards. What was explained to me was they want to maintain the cockpit/cabin and use the front and rears of the car as a deformable structure. Extending the cage to the struts tops means that you are reducing the deformable section of the car and making the non-collapsible drvers cell bigger...not ideal.

LOL...but please check that. Im the first to say i could be wrong, but that is the case with new cars getting cages for rally cars in Vic

car has over 300 kw's at 3500

Geebuz!

As a side topic - the one thing I disagree on with these circuit battle rules is they state you must run on R Spec tyres and then won't even let John run on his Hoosiers. But then they are happy to let you run with straight 109 racefuel.

Surely if they are trying to keep this competition about the fastest track going street cars then they need to be consistant.

So I take it Russ you aint coming to Vic given the up-coming rebuild or are you hoping to have it ready in time for that (or are you coming in the EVO?)

Very interesting Giant and lots of development and sounds like more in it and yes roll cage will stiffen her up. Are you sure 300wkw by 3500rpm that can't be right? Maybe thecallibration on dyno with speed and rpm was out? On the vid it certainly sounds like on the money and not laggy although revs are upmost fo the time and that dog box does the trick. You should get our extrude honed exhaust manifolds if can still get as the guy with the jig and machine has leased it out to a motorbike company that does race bikes. Also 25 row oil cooler cope OK I had one but went up to 30row. But then your radiator is huge thick compared to mine.

Here is my dyno reading way back on C16 different motor I might add but similar.

zed456kw.gif

You showed us yours I will show you mine. Lots of R & D but my car is cheap parts wise in comparison.

Standard gear box and just our UAS 6 button single plate clutch. One piece Chrome Molly tail shaft. No front diff but Kazz 20 plate custom 1.5 way diff with 300ZX non turbo cradle modified to fit R200 R32 GTR diff housing and now 41 stock R32 GTR crown and pinion, had GTS-4 but too low ratio especially for Phillip Island. We also have a custom diff expansion tank and breather.

Current motor has stock block and crank also, and blocks in zeds are never a problem and why they make good boat moorings as heavy. Stock oil pump never a prob on zeds and no after market other than dry sump which I will be doing next motor. We do run an Acusump though and custom baffle in top of oil pump well for insurance. ACL pistons and cheap Scat rods, Ferrier oversized valves, UAS valve springs, extrude honed exhaust manifolds, regrind cams cost me a mere $350, GTRS turbo's, Power FC, Shell 100 octane pump gas with octane booster, although might get out the M110 fuel which will give it another 40rwkw or more. Factory coils and ignition system. Tein flex Aussie spec, full adjustable rod end control arms. Twin three custom exhaust into single 4 inch single rear muffler. Big aero though obviously with BIG rear wing and front Kenards and rear under tray and front splitter and undertray being planned very soon. Custom fuel tank with in built surge tank with custom expansion tank. UAS racing hamonic balancer which is made by Ross Balancers and Greddy GTR alloy oversized engine pulleys.

See here for more.

Mine is there now in Circuit battle display dents and all. Was also photraphed by Auto Salon in a all white studio on Thursday for a future issue again warts and all.

Remy car I forgot to mention my brakes and I have custom Wilwood peddle box mounted in factory location, and custom made accelerator peddle made from Chrome Molly tube, with in cabin brake bias adjustment. Front brakes are 6 piston GT3 mono block Brembo Porsch calipers with Alcon 365mm floating two piece hats and rear are 4 psiton AP racing two peice rotor with hydraulic hand brake, and 330mm slotted rotors. Cooling is front and rear air deflectors and ducting. Rotors and pads cryo treaded and DS3000 pads. Also run a fuel cooler for return fuel which is factory second hand oil cooler so cost me nothing.

john

that is the area we spent alot of time trying to make it right, when you look at your graph you making full boost at about 4000 where as we hit full boost 500 rpm earlier , which makes a huge difference off a corner & worlds apart when going round witches hats in motorkahnas using the handbrake, i'll try and post a video of the car at a motorkahna it may show the car has great low down power and insane through the middle.

yeah i may have to go to 30 row cooler or two 19 row under the car when we rebuild it.

yeah roy i will have to check up on the legals side of it, the guy doing the cage does a lot of cages for the arc guys so i have a lot of faith in the strength of his work. also regarding the manifolds the car was definately lacking off slow corners and witches hats stuff as we were boggin down and having to fan the clutch to get it back into the boost range when using the extractors also the exhaust system had a quite an effect in this area too! also boost piping length & material thickness effectsit too.

nah snowy not coming to Vic, would love to because was awsome event last time we were there but to much to do, we run vp 109 in the dutton rallies also along with a few others cars and then others are running martini race fuel, if the outlaw it it wouldnt bother me, we mainly use it for safety absolutely no detonation. pump fuel is far cheaper and with an aquamist setup which we are going to be using when we rebuild it we give better performance results with they same kind of safety margin.

i went for a ride in a world rally car a couple of years ago with kenneth erickson( which was awsome) and he went through a few things before we got going, when we were ready to take off, he startedthe launch control system and antilag and boost climbed to 2.8bar before we had launched and when we were going along boost was climbing to almost 4 bar , with inlet temps no greater than 20 degrees on a 32 degree ambient day!!! amazing too bad they are restricted

cheers russ
