Do Brake Pads Squeal When They Wear Out?

Hey guys,

My brakes are starting to squeal - are brake pads designed to squeal when they get worn out? Like is there a wear layer that makes noise, so you know they need replacing?

yes they do squeek when they are nearly worn out..

some pads just squeek al the time.

Must be time for new pads up front.

sounds pads have a wear 'indicator' which will squel when the pad is worn enough to allow the indicator to touch the rotor. just get your head in there and take a look.

or have bendix ultimates like me and they squeal like a 14 yr old girl when they arnt hot
