What rev range??? Splitfire coils are the way to go, get rid of those pusy factory ones and get some decent ones. I personally felt the difference as most others im sure would say the same.

I got missfire issues at the moment. Running about 10 psi, ngk coppers new gapped at .8, coil packs removed from car and cleaned and inspected, no cracks, all small debris and dust vacummed out of the spark plug area..

Still get miss fire at 5k rpm.

My question, is there anything else i should check\try before spending $550 on split fires.. Do you think split fire will resolve the miss fires and allow me to run a little more boost on the stock ecu?

can anyone describe what rich and retard feels like when you overboost on the stock ecu.. totally different to a missfire?

id say buy some split fires. i had the same problem the coil packs looked fine and i was scratching my head. got splitfires now and i can run 15psi on standard ecu.

yeah its a tough call. externally the coils look great. checked thougherly for hairline cracks and there is none. cleaned out where the spring site in.. wased and dried rubber boots that go over plug and coated coils with acrylic..

hmmm.. i guess it would not harm to have the new split fires, id be pissed though if it was another issue as id rather spend the cash fix the issue.. looks like there is one way to find out :blink: .. where is my credit card ...

dude splitfires are an over kill when running 10 psi . my car was breaking down at 5000rpm on similar boost levels when i originally bought my car and up the boost froom 8 to 12psi. replaced faulty coilpacks with second hand stockers and away i went again. the stock coilpacks worked fine until i upgraded turbo to hi flow and tried to wind the boost past 18 psi. im sure if you search the parts forsale section that someone will be selling theres cheap due to upgrading to split fires. dont buy stockers from wreckers they will want drug money for theres.

if you cant get spark with increased boost in the chamber, then it has to be your ignition system.

my packs looked perfect externally. but i had bad misfires up high on stock boost

got spitfires and runs beautifully

there are threads that have alternate cheaper solution. not sure exactly what its called, but you run some sort of external coil configuration with different coil leads. no coil pack per cylinder setup. read it on this forum, had a link to a .co.nz forum thread too. costs about $100 iirc, but more messing around

ok guys have tried everything and all DIY bandaid fixs but had no luck

so i have just made the payment for some new SPLITFIRES from Nengun

they say i should expext then in from 7-21 days so ill let you all know how they go.

What i Tried before biting the bullet and spending $550 on the splitfires

New Plugs at .8mm

New Fuel filter

cleaned AFM

Cleand Coils (the spring inside) with AFM cleaner

checked for hair line cracks (found nothing)

Taped Coils (waste of time)

Spraid with heat rated silicone (waste of time)

It doesnt look like you have any form of engine management.

I had the same problem on 10psi.

Plugged in a Powerfc and problem gone!

Your engine is goign into rich and retard mode most likely.

You have increased the airflow into the engine by freeing up the intake and exhaust. maybe if you had stock cooler and exhaust 10psi would be ok but now with all your mods the computer is freaking out that there is too much airflow..

I doubt splitfires will help at all.

Things like the wires going to the coils can become brittle in addition to the coils becoming cracked and connections. Splitfire coils offer little over the factory units. The factory units are known to handle substancial boost and power in many cases.

i have a SAFC-II that has been dyno tuned as my engine management

even if the splitfires dont change anything its still a good mod to have done to provent future probs from coils

but as i said will let yo uknow how they go when i get them.

Yeah you should of got them from Aaron (Slide), its abit more expensive but you get them much cheaper and you're buying from a local Sponsor. :)

Anyway yep its good to get them if you're thinking from future proof perspective but I would of used that money to go towards up for a PFC as that would of been alot more 'future proof' then the splitfires in my opinion. :( I'm more of a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kind of guy, so a lot cheaper way of seeing if you actually needed the coils or not would have been to do what R31Nismoid suggested - swap your set for a set which you know is working from antoher car then see if the problem is still there.

Oh and just fyi, I had the same problem. :( It was all stuttery and felt like crap when I was above about 4000rpm hard on the throttle, initially thought it was coilpacks as well but when I fit the PFC in the problem went away - so must of been R&R. Hopefully won't have to change the coils, but we'll see that when I wind up the boost abit on a new turbo. :P
