my car is a r32 gtst type m 1992.

things i have done to fix the problem...

- clean AFM

- change fuel filter

- change O2 senser

- changed and re gapped plugs to 0.7

- cheacked coil packs.. no cracks but siliconed them up anyway...

this misfire is not the usual cough or flutter when you hit boost, this misfire happens when i am cruising at low revs, it is very random. and the whole car basically turns off for 1-4 seconds then runs again... sort of like the car stalls then role starts itself and runs again.. but smothly..??? i hope this is making sense...

could it be the ignitor box? because this controles all the coil packs? or a loose wire? i have no idea any help would be good..

thanks leigh

yeah i know the o2 sensor is fine.. what is the best way to find out if the afm is gone??

the car idols fine without a hint of a miss.. as i said it is very random when it happens, like it will happen 4-5 times in a row then be fine for another 15-20 mins of driving...

with your engine idling give the wiring around the engine bay( injectors, igniter, etc etc) a good pull/wiggle and see if it plays up as it may have a bad connection somewhere and its playing up under the torque loading of the engine under acceleration

just a thought.

i just hooked up the standard wires to it... but t has been like that for about a year.. wha should i do? run a relay?

There is a link in FI Guide (sticky thread) about correctly wiring the pump

The stock loom generally is not upto the task.

So begin there.

After that, you need to mix-n-match. Swap stuff off cars you know are working and try it.

ok guys thanks for all the help i will get onto those things and if the problem persists i will post again.. it doesnt bother me to much as i am puting a rb25 with r31Nismoids old gt30 in, in the next couple of months.

thanks leigh.

  • 1 month later...

I had a similar problem 2 years ago, completely random miss but mine would happen at cruise, on boost, on idle whenever it felt like it really. It would happen maybe once every 5 minutes at worst, sometimes it wouldn't happen at all.

In the end i solved it in the same way you are planning to :)

But i tried (not in order);

afm swap

cas swap

ignitor swap

coil swap

ignition rewire

removal of emanage

plug swap

injector clean

injector swap

ecu swap

checked tps (probably should have swapped it)

rb25 engine loom and ecu swap (problem solved)

Sounds like a problem i had with my old silvia. The problem in my case was that there were 3 damaged wires going into my ecu which was shorting against one another. Maybe just have a look at the wires in that area. Its unlikely but worth a shot.

    • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) has existed since the 80's. I'm looking into buying a Hummer H1 and they generally included it.
    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
