Yeh ditto. Early on i was lucky enough to have Peter Hackett drive my car at Wakefield. He was 5 seconds quicker then me. I had only done two track days at that point. Without modifying the car i got within just over a second of his lap. It took me 3 years of track work driving the same car. I didnt modify the car until i was satisfied i was at least near the pace of a decent driver.

The other all too often reminder was that Duncan on this forum was way more then 3 seconds quicker then me in a completely std R33 GTSt with semi slicks. Tyres are probably worth 2-3 seconds so as a rough rule of thumb i didnt touch the car until i got close to his times.

Its scary the first time someone else drives the car...i have found its all about corner speed and keeping the car balanced all whilst rocketing through the corners. Somehting i still cant do

muahhahahaha give me your keys and lets see what she can do. Or even better lend it to Pete.

Seriously though.....too many people just head to the track and don't take any instruction....so they either end up going far slower than they could or making a mistake, breaking something and giving up.

If you go say 5% beyond your car's limits the worst that will happen is a spin or understeer slightly off the track. So if you can't get instruction just go a little quicker each lap until you fall off.

But you will learn more in 3 laps with a more experienced driver than you will in 10 days on your own.

And finally.....get as many people to help you as you can - you will be amazed how differently people take the same corner - try them all and see what works for you.

I agree totally. Never had instruction before, but this tuesday I have the John Bowe performance driving school :P:)

It's expensive, but I will learn more on this one day than I would on $385 worth of private practice days, of that I am certain. can't wait!
