I find it amusing how the skyline community have internal arguments about which Nissan Skyline is better.

From all the other car clubs/forums ive seen/read neither have this issue lol

You'll never see the xr8's downsizing the xr6's on FordForums or the 325i's dissing the 318's on bmw

Guess the skyline community wont function as one until the maturity level steps up a notch.

lol^^ yeah cause nissan designed the 2Ltr 6cyl when the 2.5Ltr 6cyl was around :P

Obviously nissan wanted to produce a different engine for their skyline generation and decided on 2Ltr 6cyl. They saw how successful it was and built ontop of it to create newer engine for R33.

If the R32 did not exist and the R33 was the first, no doubt it would have come out with rb20 as that was their starting engine .

Going back to the original question;

R33 will no doubt be faster than r32 in standard form due to the 2.5L engine

Why nissan even bothered to make a 6 cylinder 2 litre engine is beyond me. It just added unnecessary weight to the 32. They already had some brilliant 2 litre engines laying around and should have used one of them.

As for looks, Every time i see a 32 I look for a backward baseball cap in the near vicinity or in the car itself.

The 33 is far more classic coupe design and will be the most timeless of all of them in the long run including the 34. (guess which one I drive) :P

Umm. FJ20 is a great engine. Nissan replaced the FJ with the RB20 and went racing with it. In Gp A trim the R31 made more power then the DR30, and the RB20 actually won the 1990 ATCC against the Sierras, VLs and M3s. From a racing point of view you have more bearing surface area, smaller lighter pistons and rods meaning engine will rev better, had to be 2L to be competitive in the turbocharged Grp A regs, any more displacement they had to carry more weight.

With the R32 GTR they went 4wd and only then bumped up displacement of the RB when there realised they werent going to be able to package the 4wd car into the desired class for racing. Remember at this point in time the larger turbo couples like Supras had sucked, and the lighter M3s and Sierras were the class of the Gp A fields.

It cracks me up when ppl walk around with their blinkers on :(

LOL...when i see an R33 i instantly run in fear and stand back to the wall as most R33 owners are sodomites. The rest hand out boiled lollies to little children at primary schools. :w00t:

i remember the day that me and my mate both got our cars on the same day...one of then got a non turbo supra, the other got a 32 gtst and i got my 33 gts25t....well we all had a drag while driving to town.....and we all were stock....i cained both the 32 and the supra.....so i will say that 33's are obiviously better then 32's....well done Nissan for the RB25DET

dont you all think its a bit sheepish/childish comparing the R33 and the 32.. does it really matter if the 33 is quicker but can be outhandled by the 32?

anyone who owns either one of those two will surely modify some aspect of the car.

Ok guys, I want to test this out for myself. Here's the rundown, I own a R33 GTS-T with a bag of mods; frontmounted incooler, haltec ecu, bosch fuelpump, 3 inch HKS exahust, HKS FC, HKS booster controller, forged pistons just to name a few.

Anyways, a got mate that owns a R32 GST-T, another mate owns a Honda Integra type-R and another mate who owns a Toyota Soarer. Anyways, we decided to test this out. A mate of mine has family up in rural Vic, down the road from where he lives is a very straight piece of road. We took turns, lining our cars up last weekend.

My R33 left all of the above for dead. As per request, I had to put this discussion to rest. Lined up my mates R32, killed him on third gear. The R33 has more topend power and is lethal on 3rd gear. It foolish (unless heavily and I mean heavily modified) that anyone can say a R32 is faster on the fly than a R33. No chance.

A lot of R32 owners loves their rides and will argue until the dawn that R32's are just as fast. No chance in hell.

However, the R32 does indeed have slightly better handling, especially on corners PLUS I like the R32 as when you drive it, you feel more compact, and you make turns more swiftly.

At the end of the day, all Skylines are great. I've really had enough of this VERSUS bullshit. All Skylines are great!!

That's right... you know mate. When I see a skyline lined up to me, whether it be a R31, R32, R33 or R34 GTS / GTS-T or GT-R - to me its a Skyline - respect.

R32 v R33 is always going to be a big debate.

if it's the GTS-t models, R33 is the better mechanical car

If it's the GT-R, I'd go the R32 personally. Just more pedigree.

If it's the GTS-4, R32 hands down for turbo as standard.

If it's the other non-turbo models, well, who cares really.

I went for the R32 based on the fact that I don't like the R33 rear end, but that's just me, although given the option, I'd still get an R34.

I guess the reason that the R33 vs R32 debate is never solved is that they have very different "Personalities".

R32 was a quantum leap in terms of sports cars. It took the world by storm, and the R33 just... didn't. It's a great car, but didn't have the success of the R32 or the R34.

A big part of the R32's success is it's track record. True, the track GTR's have little in common with the street going gts-t's, but it's still the same base model.

The R33's success has been largely attributed to being the R32's younger brother.

In terms of modern skylines, the R33 is the middle child, between the older R32 who is the family favourite to the R34 which is the baby of the group.

the next skyline will probably prompt many R34 vs (new model) GTR debates.

In the end, both cars are great, but who ever keeps a skyline standard? when you pick between an R33 and an R32, all you're doing is picking the canvas on which to make your art.

On a side note, I realised that I must have been damn bored to write all this.

:( 1/4 mile times for a stock 32 and 33 gts-t are very similar, 33 is about .1 of a second quicker, so i guess the 500cc more the 33 has makes up for the 80-100kg more the 33 has.

Also series 2 r33's are acceptable but series 1? dammmmmmmmm camry/magna things

Also r32's with non type M front bars look very plain ._.

Moral of the story is get a valiant i believe..

Have i just PO'd every GTS-T owner posting in this thread :sorcerer:

All very interesting. But last time i checked we were on a wonderfully green and blue earth, not hell. You havent addressed the simple fact that R33 owners are all of dubious sexual orientation. R33s are known to be susceptible to germs and disease and often end up pink with 20" chromies, yellow leather and more fibreglass then a catamaran. The roof line is good on foggy mornings as with such a high seating position bird strikes become a real concern, but hey, the fog is all the way down there.

Then there is this whole RB25 thing. Nissan threw cheaper and weaker pistons and rods at the car...and thought to themselves, hell we have thrown all this weight at the unsuspecting Nissan enthusiast, we better given them displacement so they dont notice the extra lard. So throwing a weaker engine in the heavier car fitted well with the deisgn intent Nissan had for the R33 GTS25t, they knew most were going to be painted pink and get chrome wheels. So knowing what the owners had in store didnt bother with making a decent car.

I know the above to be true. If you doubt it then you can line up your

Haha valiant, you loose. Valiants were povo slow boxes when they come out of the factory let alone 30+ years later. Valiants were one of the most unsuccessful cars ever to race at Bathurst. I can't believe the finish of valiants... Very rough to say the least I mean no carpet or trim on the doors on some of the earlier models, even holden could get that right.

Roy, generalizations of people due to what car they drive is stupid. How can you insinuate that someone is a sexual devoid just because they drive a 33. No respect for you buddy.

this post explains why r32's are slower than r33's

not only does r32's have rb20's under the bonnet, they also have pricks behind the wheel. :)

pricks that think they are better because they got a uglier and slower car....very similar to commadore drivers

    • Can you log IAT? Whilst WTA coolers have their place, doing any sort of sustained run is not one of them There are fixes that slow down the heat soak, like ice boxes, which don't last that long, and interchillers, which are fairly expensive, up grades to the WTA cooling radiator, which may require a bigger pump, and upgrades to the reservoir size,  and upgrades to the cooling fans, but, it all still heat soaks, and takes ages to come down in hot weather  For a turbo, that isn't locked into WTA like my PD blower is, can you not possibly swap to a nice air to air intercooler????, it would be better for sustained runs then, and have alot less things that could go wrong in my opinion 
    • So, the other thing I've sorted is a baseline dyno run up at Unigroup's new location. The auto trans was a little unco-operative by both shifting down when the throttle was floored on the dyno (so Mark had to ramp it up more slowly than in a manual) and also by shifting up at 6,000 even in sports mode instead of the indicated redline of 7,000 Still, on a hot day it made 240rwkw at 16psi which seems about right for 300kw (400hp) through an auto at the wheels.  The shape of the curve is not quite right because it was not full throttle to about 4,500 to stop it kicking down, but until I can get a tune on the auto trans control this was the best we could do.....full boost will be well below 5,000 once that is sorted, I'll get some data logs when I can to confirm For comparison, the R32 made 255 at 12psi (at 4,500) on the same dyno with tune, n1 turbos, cam gears, big exhaust but otherwise all standard so the v37 is likely a little better out of the box. One thing that is very clear is that the standard water to air intercoolers are not up to sustained use at full throttle in warm ambient temps. After about 5 runs (so only a few minutes full throttle), it was pulling boost and timing and dropping 10-15% power. Unfortunately I didn't get that printout and the Unigroup guys are away at the moment, will try and get hold of it on their return. So, looks like a healthy engine to start modifying and the only real area of concern is the w2a heat exchangers which the aftermarket has plenty of solutions for    
    • I maintain it actually looked really nice in person. So much so that I thought "No, this is illegal" but there it was, clear as day. I think we can easily call the wing and wheels/height to be transformative. Not saying it's better than the GR Whatever, or the 86, or the WRX STI or anything of that sort (the internet says it all bolts up so you can buy best of all worlds?) but it's still at least a thing and not nearly AS bad as people say.

    • I leant out the window recently and took a picture of this new WRX. It looked real damn fine in person. It's faster around a track (stock) than a (stock) GR Yaris. It's much more practical despite being heavier. It's significantly cheaper. This gen tunes really well, much better than others. .... I think they're probably a lot better than people expect.
