How Long Can A Fresh Motor Sit?

Hi,

Just wondering how long can a freshly built motor can sit doing nothing. I ask this question because im building a car from scratch and its costing quite a bit more than expected! I want to get the motor put together so i can put it in my car and bolt all the good gear onto it. That will inspire me to finish it off.! Only thing is it will take me about a year to get it running. Is a year fine? and should i do anything to it in that year to keep it in good shape?

it can sit as long untill its started really..

as long as you use a proper assembly grease, you will have no problems leaving it for that long. Personally I would wait til it's ready to rock and roll before I put it together.

some motors have been sitting at workshops for years untill cars have been finished. work perfect as a charm as they dont move to cause wear.. or anything

Keep the moisture out of it.

Also, personally, no oil in the sump. Seen oil part way on bearings at work sitting for ages do nasty nasty things when the bearing is finally used.

Mine hasnt been started since it was built nearly 12 months ago.

No problems as the motor is sealed
