Tried searching but not much luck running 18's with 245's (street tyres)but just brought a set of 32GTR stockers with plans to run re55 225/50/16's but am a little worried that even with stickier tyres 225 may be a little smallish.

Still running stock brakes on the gtr so dont need 18's for anything other than looks (for now at least)

but will smaller width and diameter + bigger sidewalls be quicker or slower.

Just hoping to get some opinions from others who mighta tried this.

they may have the same size sidewalls? if you have 245/45 and you want to run 225/50 that is pretty much the same sidewall size. well 2mm difference (ie 8/10ths of fvk all).

they will be miles better than your 245 street tyres. plus 16s are cheap.

Thats what I figured the stockys were cheap too :domokun:

does anyone else feel that the Re55 is like running around on a tractor tyre?

That makes it sound so appealing

Not sure bout the weight have pretty stuffed semi's on em now so so will try n find a set of scales to compare

my 18's are only ROH DriftR's so not exactly light I reckon maybe the forged stockers would be lighter.

Thanks for the opinions an Sorry for the slow replys have been away from the computer for a bit!

Would anyone suggest anything over the RE55s or is that going to open a whole nuther can a worms

IMO RE55s are the best street legal semi slicks available in terms of both grip and longevity.

for reference to tyre widths, when I went from 255s to 285s on the rear, I gained 0.75 seconds around the QR sprint circuit. now I have 305 full slicks on the way, THAT will be interesting :)

Hey Noone ,

I just bought semi's for my car and the advice i got is that although they might be smaller they'll handle the horsepower I have mine are 205/45/16 , RE55's should have a stiff sidewall so i think for you it'll be a question of will they handle the horsepower you have?If you have too much you'll fry'em , also the compound type(hard/medium/soft) will have a bearing on weather they'll do the job or not. cheers

re55s on 16"s will hose street tyres on 18"s, not even close...they will be seconds per lap quicker.

I compared good street tyres (falken fk451 in 18s) vs re55s on 17s and they were 3 seconds per lap quicker on Eastern Creek, 1.57 vs 1.54. Same car, same driver, 3 weeks apart.

The extra grip in the re55s makes the difference. They have super stiff sidewalls compared to road tyres which reduces any disadvantage from wheel diamter, and smaller wheels are lighter too. And smaller wheels = much cheaper tyres there is a big premium for tyres on big wheels.

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
    • Thanks for taking the time to post that ! If anything changes or happens please do update us.
    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
