Weird Smell From Car...

Hey everyone... recently i've had my gearbox oil and diff oil changed, i noticed under the car when the mechanic was probably draining it they spilt a little on there. Pretty much after i've had this done i take my car for a bit of a "spirited drive" and i notice this weird smell coming from around there, it sort of smells like gearbox oil burning or more of what i can smell "burning shit"

I was wondering if its just the little bit of oil thats still stuck on the box that could still be giving me that smell or if its something more dramatic... also i don't know what detonation smells like wether its a werid stench and wether i should be worrying about it, the mechanic is a bit busy and i thaught if anyone on here could help it'll help me out heaps..

after i done my gearbox and diffs i dropped a little bit of oil this oil was coming out of the breathing hoses but i didn`t get a burning smell

hmm i wonder what it might be... what does detonation smell like? i dont get no warning light and i don't have a knock sensor (pfc not in as yet).... is there a certain sort of smell that i should look out for?

stupid questions but hey i'm a nOOb .. and i've used the search function

I would say that abit of oil has spat out the breather onto something hot but i wouldn`t put a nut on it , jack the car up and have a look if oil was burning it leave black stuff

this might be a dumb question, but wheres this breather..?

On top of the diff , u can put a longer hose on it to fix the problem of the oil coming out , if that is what is happening

Hmm... i noticed some spillage on my exhaust i thaught it was from when they changed the oil.. i'll have another crack 2nite when i get home.. apreciate your help mate.!

I had the same weird smell when my gearbox rear main seal was knackered. Stank out the car. When I removed the shifter boot it was even stronger. Kinda stuck in the rubber boot on top of the gearbox. I feel your pain dude.

its a pidgeon on ur intercooler

my gts-t had a smell and its a distinctive gear oil smell, small rubber boot on shifter was shagged, nissan had new ones for less than 20 i think

well i took it to my mechanic and was told its exhaust smell... i thaught it was gearbox oil lol

well about the pidgeon in my intercooler the c**ts still alive so that wouldn't be that... wanka
