This topic comes up a bit, and I saw an article in Evo magazine comparing 8 performance tyres.

It is 17 pages long (and I'm not sure of the best way/ any way to upload it), and all UK, but the main points were:

Tyres (Cost, ranking):

Goodyear Eagle F1 ($380,1)

Toyo Proxes T1-S ($300,3)

Avon ZZ3 ($290,8)

Dunlop SP Sport 9000 ($420,6)

Bridgestone Potenza S-03 ($370,7)

Pirelli P7000 ($430,4)

Michelin Pilot Sport ($460,5)

Continental ContiSportContact ($400,2)

(All converted from UK prices, not local)

Tests were (first, last):

Road Test (Pirelli, Bridgestone)

Wet Handling (Toyo, Bridgestone)

Dry Handling (Continental, Dunlop)

Wet G (Dunlop, Bridgestone)

Dry G (Brigdestone, Dunlop)

Dry Braking (Bridgestone, Michelin)

Wet Braking (Goodyear, Pirelli)

Dry Slalom (Pirelli, Dunlop)

Wear (Pirelli, Toyo)

And an interesting aside, the best dry handling lap time for these was the Continental (1m:48.63s). By comparison, a Dunlop Formula-R used for comparison did 1m:45.87s. I use these at the track myself and find them 4-6 seconds faster than my cheap Falkens.

Anyway, just thought I'd add some science to the discusions re tyres.
