Hi the other day i was giving my car a bit of a workout and the orange check light came on a few times. I just asumed my car needed a service or does anyone know what else it could be or what it means???

Anyway i want to give my car a service myself and my mate is trying to tell me if i buy the iridium or platinum NGK spark plugs im going to need to get them spaced otherwise they won't work right and will sound crap. Is this true and how can i space them??? Its for a R33 GTS-T.

Thank you in advance

They come at a 1.1 gap (not sure about 0.8) ... platinums can be bought in either 1.1 or 0.8 .....

I run at 0.8 (heatrange 6) on brand new splitfires and high boost just to ensure the spark doesn't arc out.

Do a search there is plenty of threads on this topic ... btw nissan recommends 1.1 & heatrange 5 for a stock vehicle (guessing that is with coils with no issues either)

i bought iridiums from supercheap about 5-10 000 km ago and they sold me the wrong heat range, and the wrong gap size. mercury motor sports told me that the iridiums that i was sold where for a non turbo stock r33. ill have a look for the part numbers for the new plugs, coz my car is running wicked good now i got the right plugs.

Aif

P.S if anyone knows someone with a N/A r33 that needs my old plugs plz pm me, :P lol

u may need to re gap em if the car is modded....... u can get a gapping tool any car shop..... im pretty sure they come gapped already for stock tune.......better take it to a performance joint they can recomend what they should be at.

LoL,The first tune shop i took my car to charged me like $50 for the Apprentice(i assume) to bang them on the ground with a hammer to re-gap my plugs to 0.7mm.

it worked

im told you can use cheaper alternative plugs which are only like $4ea. p/n BCPR6E i think they're copper but was told they work well.ill give em ago for my next service/Tune

Cheers

    • Thanks mate 👍 The car was brought into the UK by a USAF mechanic until he was stationed back to the US, one owner later I bought her back in 2009. Luckily the only corrosion was on the sill seams, so once taken back to metal and treated and sealed all ok, I then undersealed the car myself and check yearly and treat any corrosion which to be honest is zero. She's garaged most of the time and hardly ever driven in the rain, but as you say most are rotten unfortunately, I was lucky in finding her as she was and still is in excellent condition.
    • Stunning car.  Looks amazing!  You're in the UK?  How the hell do you stop your car rotting away beneath you?  British cars are the WORST I've ever seen in regards to rust.  Some of the cars SR Autobody have done are borderbeyond saving.
    • not a date code? or a foundry code?
    • I have up to date pics of the engine build and turbo conversion over on my instagram @skpro_jects if you want to take a deeper look.   Basically the exhaust manifold is straight bolt on and the ports match (they arent any smaller than a 25 or 26 head).    the intake ports are different shape so the 20/25det manifold will bolt up but wont match properly or seal. You will need to port match using the 25det gasket as a stencil. Personally i ran the entire stock 20neo intake setup and have configured the swirl valves and torque valve to work based on my custom parameters to help with off boost response and spool. But this is using a standalone aem v2 ecu. The stock 20det ecu wont be able to control them.
    • Hi. a little later but if the topic is here. So...the exhaust is the same and you can use 25/Turbo or any aftermarket? What about intake side? Is it too "plug n play" or? (i do not remember for 100% but i think that one intake to head gasket was little bit different than on the RB25 - i bought gasket kit way back) I know that even if it "plug" those butterfly swirls would cause ECU to be confused or?   Just asking for the info 🙂 and of course the RB25 things are easier to come by
