Before everyone says it's impossible they are basically what giant says he is running (well the garret equivalents) and he's apparently making close to 400awkw's and has a 1/4 time of 10.2s run on RE55 semi-comps to back that up.

And I used to think giant was running -5's or something until I saw he's making 300kw's at 3,500rpm which you'd struggle to get with bigger turbo's.

So with the right set-up's, fuel and tuning it might be possible.

300kw at 3000rpm? Are you sure this giant wasn't the main star in a story involving magic beans?

Just kidding thats a fairly amazing setup. I'd love to see the details of that. And i'd also love to be proven wrong about the GT-SS's making 364awkw.

That is HUGE average power if that is the case, no wonder his 1/4 times are so darn good. That would be a genuine 600+hp job... yeah? What a monster it would be on the street. :(

FYI since you probably don't check out the motorsport section - here's giants car doing a lap of wakefield in 1.04.2s (if you don't know thats pretty quick)

You can certainly see the way it pulls. But they are shifting at 7,800rpm which again shows they are smaller turbo's.

And here's another around some motokhana's that show's this car is always on boost.

If you want to know what's in the car read this

I've seen this car in action and it is pretty damn insane.

I'd also like to know more about this paricular setup as its the most power ive heard of for GT-SS. I'd like to know how its done so i can do similar

What cams, comp, boost with what fuel, support mods etc and by Garrett equivellent i assume you mean the 2860R -7 ?

EDIT: Thanks, too quick for me!

I've seen this car in action and it is pretty damn insane.

and i'm guessing it's the reason (well one of the reasons) you are going back to N1s from the 2530s. :(

I personally am having a terrible time making up my mind between the SS and the 2530s.

things for the SS:

the are $500 cheaper than 2530s

they will be more responsive

things against them:

i'll have the same set-up as 90% of GTRs out there (yes I'm a wanker and like to be different)

the 2530s can make more power, and so many quick japanese GTRs are using them

i may need a fair whack more boost to achieve the same airflow (power) compared to 2530s.

but my power aim is between 320 and 360rwkw. with as much response as possible. it's a tough one.

hi Roy

i will try and tell you what we have found really important and our mods.

power is approx 380 to 400 kw's @all four depending on weather and temp.

so yep, still 2.6 bore size, 270 cams tomei, adj cam gears, cleaned up cylinder head ports, n1 valve springs,cp pistons, tomei rods, n1 oil pump with reinmax gears(also use tomei oil pump previously), hi octane racing large sump (will be going to a hi octane racing 4 stage dry sump in a month or so) standard exhaust and intake manifolds, are intercooler, n1 garret equivelant turbo's, greddy intake boost pipes, apexi airfilters, autronic ecu and cdi ignition, gonzo exhaust, vp109 fuel( good for 30kw's and much safer than pump fuel), tilton brake pedal box, australian spec tein suspension, bosch fuel pumps, advan suge tank, npc clutch ( i swear by it!!), carbon tailshaft. block and crankshaft are standard, acl race bearings, 25 row oil cooler, standard blow off valves. we also run a water sprayer for the radiator and oil cooler for longer circuit runs.

we have tried hard to make the power come on hard down low in the rev range , which makes it easier to drive, we tried aftermarket extractors and the car made more power but we lost over 500 rpm before boost would come on so we went back to standard manifolds, adjust cams to get power as early as possible, car has over 300 kw's at 3500 all the way to rev cut, rev cut we have lowered to 7800 till we get a dry sump.

the other thing we have spent a lot of time on is the 4wd system and wheel alignment setup, nearly all r32 gtr 4wd drive systems we have looked at including our car when we got it, do not function as they should. wheel alignments also have been a real issue. we have had a lot of trouble get alinment shops to align to the spec you ask for and ahen checked they are way out!! we now do all our wheel alignments by string line and have had far better results.

the car will be coming off the road in two months(after nsw dutton and maryborough sprints) for a full rebuild, dry sump if not before) , side exit exhuast for events that allow it, chromoly strut to strut cage, try to lighten it some, total repaint, stack dash , hopefully carbon doors, bigger swaybars & a few other changes.

hope this helps if you want to anything specific just ask

cheers russ

What a monster. Awesome setup.

He says Garrett equivilent N1s...?

Thanks a lot for the links. I have heard many things of this car previously which is why I never doubted what you stated about it. Just suprised to learn what he is running although he is running N1 equivs and not GT-SS equivs. N1's are bigger than SS's so I gather the Garrett N1 equivs are also a step up in size over the SS's. I don't doubt this output from N1's but SS's are another story right?

yeah, there are two versions of R34 N1s. one has .42 comp and .64 ex, the other has .60 comp and .64 ex. one is basically a GTSS, the other is basically a 2530. I'm not sure which one Russ is using.

I think you'll find most agree that N1's, GT-SS and 2860-7's = almost the same thing.

Yeah, Giant isnt running PULP. Thats the key factor.

I picked up around 40-50rwkw just by changing fuel myself way back when and laying on the timing thick and hard.

However, I doubt anyone has a hope in getting much more than 320-330rwkw unless your on the juice.

Project Mu - Dyno sheet and please tell us what fuel you are using, as you can clearly see from the RB26 dyno sticky thread that not one person has come remotely to that result on PULP.

So for me, its happy dyno love for your result

Hi

I just want to find out the max power available from HKS GT-SS turbos

I have 488hp at all four wheels (364KW) at 1.5bar (22psi)

Post your results....

Let me guess hub dyno? If so the power looks spot on. Hub dyno's shit on roller dyno's but they confuse the public as they read higher.

    • Noted. Have noticed BMW are more 'high maintenance' for sure. They've attracted my attention as I think the used car prices seem reasonable vs other options, and the extra quality overall vs a commodore / camry / corolla or similar of the same vintage is appealing, especially the interior, and they are more on the sporty side whereas the others mentioned can be more cruising or economical A-to-B only.
    • Haha yeah I know, this is SAU after all, why are we talking about BMW's of all things!? I hear you on the 'don't have to worry about it' side of things. Having been fortunate enough to be have been able to buy a brand new motorbike or two...never really enjoyed them as much as I'd have liked as you worry so much about where you park it, will it get scratched, stolen, attempted theft, knocked over, etc...and yes dirty. Older less valuable bikes you can just go where you want and park it wherever and not really worry that much in comparison. And who cares if it gets dirty! Never owned a V8, and have had my eyes on VE / VF commodores for years but with their prices climbing so high, the M3 has come into focus more as prices are much closer than I've ever seen...is it a potential contender now?...of course need to factor in the S65 'maintenance' especially and like you said general M car 'tax'. One can dream anyway. But more on the reality front - did read the whole 330i thread as well and was a great read too, both threads enlightening as I've never even driven one of these cars! I do recall 330i didn't seem to have the same amount of issues for almost the same car (turbos and related differences notwithstanding)...perhaps down to getting it earlier in it's life so looked after better than the 335i? Perhaps so as your 130i has been good and quite similar, so finding a car that's been looked after well is the especially-crucial-BMW-first-step.
    • Nice. Dont worry about the time of not running. My current skyline hasn't run since I bought it. About 8 years ago.
    • It's also worth noting that I am heavily and unconditionally biased. I've had a lot of cars including some GTRs a fair while ago. I love my BMW's now a lot. They make no sense a lot of the time and the guys on here remind me regularly that I could get something else that does what I want better and cheaper. If you're going to take on an older BMW it's definitely a commitment. If you bail on it early you'll lose money and also the ability for it to put a smile on your face. Stick with it and it just gets better.  f**k I should get into advertising.
    • Careful with posts like that around here without the flame suit on @cobo_11! 😂😂 My 330i journal is on here too. That car was so good and super reliable. We still have a 130i in the family which is almost identical to the 330i and easier to find in manual. It has also been almost faultless over the 6 or so years in the family.  I used to want an M car a lot more than I do now but if I'm honest and without trying to sound like a wanker, I can get such good performance and handling out of my 335 without needing to worry about all the crap that goes along with M car ownership. I don't need to worry about my bearings or subframe issues or the cost of replacing brakes or suspension or whether it has been impeccably maintained. And I can leave it places and not get upset when it's always filthy.
