ive seen this happen. time for a tune up. your engine is not handling the thrashing well. could be a range of different things. depending on how exactly stalled. ie. as soon as rpm drop back down to idle state. or did it idle for abit then stall. EAch of these things signify different reasons and different things to check. speak to a tuner.

hey all

i hope someone ca help me solve this mystery.

the other night i decided to see how my car would go at really high speeds (now im talkin i got up to 170k) the car did well, held it togther nicely, but............i threw it into neutral to put less strain on the engine as i slowed down.........then she stalled. f*** knows why!??

Im thinking maybe it was cause she was at such high rpm????????? please help! this is so weird! cause the the highest i can go is 180 km so i dont understand why!!!!

170k,not cool would you like to see the result of 30k's over an comin un stuck

you's all act like you havnt done it before, which if you say it, i call BS

everyone does it atleast once, if there was no one aound her, no one in the car, she only put herself at risk which is just like if she where on the track

not that im saying i condone it

but just a note, you should have let the engine brake, i wouldnt clutch in/put it in neutral and then coast at those speeds, you want the engine to help you slow down.

NEVER EVER DO THAT AGAIN.....

This is what may have happened:

I don't know about R34's but in my R33, someone TOLD me that it has soemthing to do with my ecu not being able to correct the AFR with the blocking of the recirculation valve, or the unlikely event that too much air would be entering the engine, causing a stall, not sure how accurate that is.

I agree with what Eug said. Its probably something to do with such a drastic change in load.

Are you stupid? Why would you do that? What was wrong with leaving the car in gear?

Have you heard of engine braking?

Sorry its just thats a really stupid thing you did. No offence. How can you be in control of your car if it isn't running?

the ecu made the car stall because it was reading too much air for idle than normal, thus f**kin up the AFR mixture and making the car stall, my guess. ie, the ecu couldnt correct it in time.

lol eh?

... are u from ns.com. go back there if you are.

I'll explain what I meant to say when I come to grips with what I wrote.

This is in a N/A section why are people talking about turbo's in the first page, is it a turbo converted NA?

The revs and the air flow into the motor drop far to fast for the ECU to keep up and causes it to stall, I'm guessing you probably have a vent to atmosphere BOV which doesn't help the situation either. Best idea just put it in fifth gear and brake.

My mistake, I got the wrong Idea from this...

CArs that do that. tend to be out of shape. Ie. need tune. clogged air filter. thrashed engine. dirty idle control circuits etc. the car should come back to idle fine. Not a big drama. but thats hwy i said 'Time for a tuneup"

but she had been tuned up only a week and a half b4 it happened. air filter was changed (pod filter), fuel injectores have been cleaned out. and a service ws done about a month ago (not even!)

anyway thanks everyone! its not something im gonna do again. its just not worth it.

you know full well that i'm not out on a personal vendetta or anything.

but i'm sorry to say no that you do not have full control of the car.

with the car stalled you have no power steering, and braking is very limited.

that aside, being in full control of the car still doesn't justify it.

i'm thinking oil pressure could be your problem? not sure, i don't know anyone else who would try/think to do something like that.

what the hell? power steering is done electronically...

turn your car power on without turning over the eninge and turn the wheel...

other then that, dont speed...

wtf ?

Anyways, My magna kind of does this. If i boot it and then throw the clutch in, the revs drop to like 200 rpm then bounce back up tp normal idle

hi ur car looks good but im so confused why would u put ur car in neutral doing 170 this is beyond me someone explain. anyway i would say that because u have put it in to neutral ur ecu is gone wtf and stalled and gotten confused and stalled. i say keep the 170 180 for the drag strip and please dont do that to ur poor car :D

but im not here to bag u out no offence intented

i had this problem while i was running a pod (only at high speeds is it a problem 80+)

i figured the AFM couldn't keep up with the rapid change in air pressure and it stalls because of that. no probs since i changed back to standard airbox

yeah i think its something to do with the massively high load on the engine, with it sucking heaps of air, then with no backpressure in the intake due to the poddy, the airflow has just stopped, or created some sort of random turbulence giving the afm an incorrect reading, causing it to over fuel/under fuel, or starve it of air.

anyway moral of story, leave car in gear :)

its all well and good people saying dont do 170 etc, but if she's in the situation where she needs to /can i.e. the track, it would be equally dangerous for the engine to just stall

    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.
    • If you are keen, have a look at my build thread. Car is for sale for the right money or straight swap for a F80 M3 LCI.
    • Welcome mate.  No point in over thinking it, buying any one of those cars you mentioned is not a smart or logical choice with the availability of many "better" (re price to performance) cars available to you.  The heart wants what the heart wants, buy whatever it leads you too.
    • Hey everyone! Im so grateful to be apart of this community and ill do my best to be apart of this. Firstly, i'm not disclosing my real name due to in real life circumstances surrounding my privacy and public image (sorry lol) Secondly, The only thing personal I am willing to share is that I'm from Sydney and a descendant of one of Sydneys largest mortgage firms. I got gifted my first ever car, a 2022 Porsche Cayenne and I love it to death. Ive been driving it for about 5 or 6 months now and honestly Im so grateful for my parents for gifting me this vehicle. However recently I've been working my ass off to afford my second car (which I need help deciding soooooo community help me out please?). Once decided, im planning to try modify it myself. Recent I've been thinking about getting a Skyline, particularly a 25GT or GT-V, yes I know overrated as hell, but I'm also considering a Chaser which I recently came to love. However my dream is to one day own a 180SX (So hard to find clean versions and im not really into importing).  Lastly before I send this off, I want to apologize if I sound tacky or pretentious. I try not to and want to genuinely learn from everyone and anyone. (Im no expert in this area) Thanks for reading!
