I've heard some people say Wakefield is a better beginner's track, doe to the apparent lack of things to hit if you come off. Really though, if you're a track day virgin, just go in a lower group than the rest of the guys, and cruise it until you get more confident. You should be fine, that's what I'm doing.

Tex & Grim,

You'll have a blast at Eastern Creek so long as you remember, IT'S NOT A RACE. You go out with the slow group and cruise. Then you build up a bit of speed in your second or third session and see how you go. There's no point in trying to fly when you're not even sure if you're car has wings !

Take it from me, it's not the race track that causes crashes. It's the idiot who thinks he's a great driver. Wakefield is a great little track which is very hard to drive around well ( fast ).

Oran Park is where most drivers ( including myself ) start to look a little worried at the beginning of a track day, but like any track day, you drive to your abilities and simply get better after each session and day you do.

Don't stress. Just have fun and keep your head screwed on :D

A word of advice from my first trackday experience (a month ago at EC). Don't worry about how fast you can go, just make sure you can stop. A good set of pads and -really- good quality brake fluid is a must. If you can't remember when you last had your brake fluid changed it was way too long ago (as I learnt). Go and get the 300+ degree's stuff ($100 fitted) and a new set of front pads.

Its quite scary going into a downhill hairpin with your brake pedal flat to the floor (lucky it was on the cool down lap and i was doing 60km/h around a 70km/h corner).

Cheers FAT32, I sure won't be racing. ;)

I've been waiting to drive on a track day for yonks, and the last time I was lined up to do it, the day got cancelled, so this should be the one, as long as it doesn't rain. As a result, I've watched a fair few days now, so I'd say I've learnt a fair bit without even being on the track yet. I've also done a couple of hot laps with Dan as well, so I've got some idea as to the lines at EC. I'm sure it'll take some getting used to though!

I forgot to mention also Grim, there will be a couple of Team Trackday Gurus on hand to go out for some laps with you to tell you where the proper lines are, and how to smoke the bags hard exiting turn two... Erm, I mean, drive safely and within your limits, while having fun and improving your driving... :D

Tex,

Believe me, once you've gotten over the race track fear factor and the belief that you car match a touring car's lap times you will be praying for rain. It's awesome fun ! Turn 9 at the creek in the wet is just too much fun ( not forgetting 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 & 12 !!!! ). Turn 1 in the wet is just a little scary unless your name is Pete ( Fatz ) who just seems to close his eyes and floor it.

As for what benm said, it's well worth taking that advice to heart. The worst thing in the world would coming out of turn 1 and not having brakes cause the wall at turn 2 in REALLY hard :D

Cool Andrew... I'll keep my eye out and update the list when it gets here!

Guys that are thinking of coming out but are not sure,

The best thing I think you can do is come to a day and spend $20 and get out with a few regulars... ask them questions and see just what happens.

I know all of the guys that attend would be more than happy to take you for a few laps with them and show you around the track.

Dan.

Sorry to back out, I have the day off work, but am spending way too much money this month to do it.

just getting a few things done. I am still going to come to the day and will pay the $20 and try and come for some laps with you guys if thats alright

Here here. I have had fade twice at EC now, good for the nerves.

I've got green stuff pads front and back now, with stock rotors, been thinking of getting some DBA rotors for the front. Any ideas on who I should get these from ?

Cheers

I will be there with a few more mods and tricks to zed. Looking forward to having a good go with Merli, OZ97 and other GTR's I know tha are going not on this forum. Will be good test for new set up with suspension and other prior to our next UAS track day.

Hi Julian, long time no see.

For a good deal on the dba 400 series discs go to this thread. Ask Kevin if he can still do any at that price (if not let me know, there may be another supplier :D).

Everyone...BLEED YOUR BRAKES! and use a quality fluid. :uh-huh:

I've never had any fade/overheating even when I was bedding in that last set of pads and was PUNISHING the brakes. It's really well worth every cent and worth doing before every track day. :P

Must agree with dino.

Drive with shagged tyres... put normal fuel in if you really want... but MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT YOUR BREAK FLUID LEVELS, in fact you really should look at all your fluid levels.

I try to service my car before every track day, change all filters, and oil and check levels of all fluids. Check break pad wear (I have heard of people using up pads that were only half worn by the end of the day)

Anyway,

Updated above and next.
