ok, as the topic states, i would like to know if you can re-use a metal head gasket?

not long ago, my engine overheated.... and blew the headgasket... so i had the head checkedout and shaved ... and i put it all back together using a tomei 1.5mm metal headgasket... about 500km later the bottom end of the engine gave way on me due to a bottom end bearing issue...

so now ive managed to source a new block... just wondering can i re-use the metal headgasket that i have in there... or was it one giant waste of $300?

thanks guys

i used that copper stuff to put it on...

but im not sure if they "crush down" like most other gaskets...

bloody expensive piece of waste if i cant re use it :D

im not trying to be cheap.. if its going to hinder the cars future reliablility once more (trying to make the car reliable) lol

then i wont re use it.. i'll go buy a new gasket...

just on the off chance, thought that because it was metal it might be reusable thats all!

I'm going to attempt to reuse my cometic..

So it appears we must be very carefull removing that gasket as not to damage the coating.

Hylomar it is. Thanks :)

I know many with both cometic and trust.. No issues.

Some (only know of one sinista i think it is) thats had issues with the cometic not sealing correctly; 100% comes down to block and head surface finish.
