hey guys havent used the forum in ages but i need some urgent and honest opinions

finally sold the non turbo R33 which ive had for 4years now and its time to upgrade

and im still trying to decide between an R34 and an an S15 i know this is a stupid question to ask in a Skylines forum but i basically wanna spend around the mid 20's on it and im after something with low k's and some minor mods

so first question is R34 or S15? i originally had my heart set on an R34 but seems i can find a cheaper S15 with less K's for around the same price

but im guessing an R34 would be a better drive and more power?

i imported the last car and am still deciding on whether to import again

im not the most patient of people so waiting 8-12 weeks will kill me plus ill be without a car and have to organise a rental

but i believe ill save around 5grand after looking into it

so second question is import or not? ive also found that there a fair few cheaper ones over east has anyone bought a car over east?

any help would be muchly appreciated thanks!

hey i had this problem when i was looking.

but my opionion i think the r34 would have lower k then a s15 would because its newer but not sure depends but u can get some from dealers that are freshly imported but they already here so u dont have to import ur self. it also depends on waht u want the car for the r34 will be heavier then the s15 but in the end its up to u. but u should be able to pick up a nice car with mods botht the r34 and the s15. so i say just keep looking and ul find a winner. hope this helps

S15 FTW!! awesome handling and SR20 midrange torgue!

Personal preference mate but they both have strengths and weaknesses ie:

S15

+ awesome midrange torque

+ very good chassis balance, handle great

+ look like sex on wheels

+ parts can be cheaper

+ flat thirteens should be doable on stock turbo

- six speeds break :)

R34

+ bigger car

- heavier front end dulls handling

+ sounds awesome

+ tougher driveline

+ wishbone front end

"but im guessing an R34 would be a better drive and more power?"

not much real HP difference when modded(stock turbos)

plus the vehicle weight. . .

that help?

"weird i thought the only difference with spec s and r was sun roof and 6 disk stacker. and the spec r was a little slower due to extra weight?

unless the jap versions had more power and the aussie delivered as the same"

AUS SPEC S = 200 hp S14 config motor

AUS SPEC R = as above but more trim options

JDM SPEC S = N/A Motor

JDM SPEC R = 250 HP BB turbo, bigger injectors, tune etc.

This is the general consensus, but there is still arguement about it. . .

so if you get an imported JDM R spec you get a better motor and the possibility of plenty of JDM trim options

the debate continues!!

there are bugger all r34s in dealers at the moment it seems , budget 30k for a nice manual coupe

aus spec s15 does not quite have a s14 spec motor , ecu and turbo is different . some aus s15s have bb turbo also

basically though 147 aus vs 185kw jdm

the s15 is a quicker car IMO but the r34 is a nicer drive

brett! long time no hear buddy

yeh ive thought about doing the R32 or R33 GTR but i really dont want an older car plus im so over the amount of 33's and 32's everywhere

but mainly insurance is a bitch haha

and yeh nah not into the rex's like i used to be haha

im thinkin about checking a few car yards just to see whats out there and what prices i can get but everything is such a rip off in perth

    • Hi all. Been a while but things are moving along. I just have something that I am wondering about. Since I will use OEM turbo oil pumbing, I got myself a new bolt, the one that goes into the engine block oil feed. As I recall (and see visually) this bolt comes restricted with I think a 1.7mm hole? Not quite sure but it was something around that size. The turbos have 1mm restrictor bolts installed, as necessary due to ball bearings and my higher oil pressures. Can I now just use that OEM bolt with the 1.7mm hole in for the engine block or will this actually be too much oil flow restriction and I have to drill it out first? In my head it would make sense for the bolt to be at least 2mm wide as both turbos take "1mm of oil flow". Do let me know if my logic is flawed here, I just want to make sure I don't kill my turbo bearings with too little oil. Don't know if I can trust the saying I read somewhere that ball bearing turbos essentially only need an oil mist
    • There are several aftermarket options available, from not-too-painful moneyhttps://justjap.com/collections/driveshafts-bearings/products/d-max-reinforced-replacement-rear-driveshaft-set-fits-nissan-s13-s14-s15-r32-r33-r34-c35 and  https://justjap.com/products/crank-motorsport-billet-rear-axles-fits-nissan-skyline-r33-gts-t-r34-gt-t?srsltid=AfmBOorQk4xkGUa98kO7v2ePLUiNt-HRrM2AwWNw9mbSIVE1ujBVwY__, all the way up to The Driveshaft Shop https://driveshaftshop.com/skyline-cv-axles/
    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
    • Yeeeppp, been following a lot of the testing on the latest Xona stuff and there are some mental results.  He also went over 1000hp @ 4 hubs on his Mainline with a XRE6364S (63mm) which was also well into the 20psi range before 4000rpm on a 2.5. Crazy stuff. Fwiw the XRE5964S is basically the modern equivalent of their old HTA3582 - would drive nicely enough on an RB25 or 26, but proven capable of a huge amount of power if you want to spicy with rpm tho even at sane boost levels will make stout numbers
